3 Ethiris NVR and NVC Our goal is to facilitate the system integrator s selection process of required products to be able to meet the demands of projects and facilities of today. Our long experience in developing Ethiris Video Management Software together with our experience in developing industrial computers has resulted in all Ethiris NVR and NVC having high functionality software and high performance, reliable hardware. To enable the system integrator to create required solutions, Ethiris contains several powerful and flexible functions. Such a function is Ethiris Cluster, which gives Ethiris NVR an obvious place in mission critical facilities with an extra high demand on stability and reliability. The possibility to choose various models of Ethiris NVR and Ethiris NVC provides a unique opportunity to create a world class video surveillance system. 3

4 System solutions for optimal functionality and Each facility is unique and makes different demands on a video surveillance system. By combining different models of Ethiris NVR and NVC, the system integrator will be able to create a system which meets the various requirements on video surveillance in different facilities. Kentima offers four different series of Ethiris NVR to the market: NVR-1, NVR-2, NVR-N and NVR-C. NVR-1 can handle up to 32 cameras and internal video storage up to 12 TB. NVR-2 is significantly more powerful and has higher performance with possibility to connect up to 64 cameras and internal video storage up to 24 TB. NVR-N is compact with high performance but without internal video storage, since it is intended for storing video on an external storage, such as a NAS. NVR-C is a combined NVR/NVC for facilities that does not require these to be separate units. Ethiris NVC-1 and NVC-2 are client computers with high performance, developed and optimized for presentation of video from one or several Ethiris NVR. Below are a few selected examples of system solutions using different combinations of Ethiris NVR and Ethiris NVC: NVR-C Smaller All-in-one systems NVR-C fits well in smaller systems where you only want one unit in the video surveillance system. Ethiris NVR-C is optimized for running both Ethiris Server and Ethiris Client simultaneously. Each NVR-C can connect up to 32 cameras and up to 2 monitors for viewing of live and recorded video. Smaller system with separate client Since it makes sense to place your NVR in a safe location, this example uses an NVR-1 placed in a server room, together with a separate NVC-1 client computer placed where you want to view live and recorded video. 5 performance Mid-size systems In our third example, there is a requirement of being able to view the video from several operator stations. NVC-1 is being used at the operator station when only one monitor is required, and if two or three monitors are required, NVC-2 is being used. Both NVC-1 and NVC-2 can fetch video from one or several NVR. Since the facility has more than 32 cameras, our NVR-2, with the possibility to connect up to 64 cameras, is being used. There is a possibility to run all NVR-2 in the facility as an Ethiris Cluster. This facilitates administration and configuration of the system and provides the possibility to create a redundant system. Ethiris Cluster is available at license level Premium. Operator site 1 Operator site 2 Server room NVC-2 NVR-2 NVC-1 Operator site 1 Operator site 2 NVC-2 NVC-2 Large redundant systems There is basically no limit on how large systems you can build with our various NVR and NVC models, besides the available network bandwidth. In this example we have a facility with a large number of NVR-N. NVR-N has no internal video storage since it is intended for storing video externally, e.g. on a NAS. All NVR-N, in this example, are run as an Ethiris Cluster and thus creating a redundant system with a high level of security and reliability. Furthermore, all NVR-N are connected to a NAS. To get redundancy for the video storage as well, a NAS allowing RAID-5 or RAID-6 is selected. Server room: Rack shelf with 4 pcs NVR-N NAS Ethiris Cluster is available at license level Premium in Ethiris VMS. You can determine the level of redundancy yourself by purchasing the necessary number of extra camera licenses. If one or several servers in the cluster fail, the remaining servers automatically take over the cameras that the failing server(s) handled. To get maximum redundancy, the remaining servers need a sufficient number of camera licenses to be able to handle all the cameras in the system. - 5

6 Model Overview Ethiris NVR/NVC Ethiris NVR and Ethiris NVC from Kentima is a complete series of server and client computers with accompanying software for professional video surveillance. Choosing an Ethiris NVR or NVC greatly facilitates the work of installing and starting-up a video surveillance system. The Ethiris software guides and helps the user to quickly configure the system for the current site. All NVR and NVC models are optimized and adjusted for their specific task and with the pre-installed Ethiris VMS, a flexible and very powerful video surveillance system is created. Different models for different requirements To fit in different applications and contexts Ethiris NVR and Ethiris NVC are available in several different models. Ethiris NVR is available in four different basic models and Ethiris NVC is available in two different basic models. These are shortly described below. It is not always obvious which model to choose for a certain facility. To help you choose, please read pages 8-11 in this brochure. Servers: Ethiris NVR-1 This NVR is suitable for small, basic facilities. Each unit can connect up to 32 cameras and it can have up to 12 TB internal video storage. In larger systems, several NVR-1 can be used to handle a large number of cameras. NVR-1 can also be a member of an Ethiris Cluster to create redundant systems. Ethiris NVR-1 is intended to run Ethiris Server. Ethiris NVR-2 NVR-2 is developed for offering the market really good performance for those facilities that require that. It is available with i3, i5 and i7 processors from Intel. Each unit can connect up to 64 cameras and host up to 24 TB internal video storage. Several units can cooperate for handling hundreds of cameras at the same facility. To create redundant systems, Ethiris NVR-2 can be a member of an Ethiris Cluster. Ethiris NVR-2 is mainly intended for running Ethiris Server, but under certain conditions it can also run Ethiris Client. Ethiris NVR-N To be able to choose optimal hardware even though you don t need internal video storage, we have developed Ethiris NVR-N. This unit is intended to run Ethiris Server with external video storage, such as a NAS. Therefore the unit has no internal video storage. It has the same performance as NVR-2 and can connect up to 64 cameras per unit. In case of a larger number of cameras at the facility, several units can cooperate and if you need redundancy, Ethiris NVR-N can be a member of an Ethiris Cluster. 6 -

7 Combined Server and Client: Ethiris NVR-C This model is intended to run both Ethiris Server and Ethiris Client simultaneously. Hence it fits extraordinary well in systems in which you only want one single computer. Each unit can connect up to 32 cameras and host up to 12 TB of internal video storage. Just as NVR-1, NVR-2 and NVR-N, Ethiris NVR-C can be a member of an Ethiris Cluster for creating a redundant system. Several stand-alone Ethiris NVR-C can also cooperate in a system for handling large number of cameras. Ethiris Client in NVR-C can use up to two monitors and can connect to several different Ethiris Servers, including the Ethiris Server running on the same computer. Clients: Ethiris NVC-1 Ethiris NVC-1 is developed to be a pure client computer with Ethiris Client pre-installed. It is optimized for running Ethiris Client and thus has no disk for video storage. You can connect one monitor to the unit for viewing of live and recorded video. Ethiris NVC-2 Ethiris NVC-2 is, just like NVC-1, a pure client computer without video storage and with Ethiris Client pre-installed. NVC-2 is intended for slightly larger facilities in which you want to use more than one monitor. You can connect up to three monitors to each unit for viewing of live and recorded video. Accessories If you want to record video in your video surveillance system, you normally choose internal video storage in your NVR. Depending on which model, it can be between 1 TB and 24 TB. However, sometimes you rather choose an external storage solution, such as a NAS (Network Attached Storage). The reason might be that more than 24 TB of storage is required or that you want to use RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) to get redundancy for the storage. In these occasions, NVR-N is a perfect choice since it is intended for using external storage. There is no limit on how large storage can be used with Ethiris. Furthermore, at license level Advanced and Premium you can define as many storage devices as you need for recording video on different disks. To further increase the reliability, you can use an UPS to get uninterrupted power to Ethiris NVR. Kentima also offers rach shelves and mounting details for nice and practical mounting of Ethiris NVR and NVC in 19 racks, under tables and for VESA mounts. - 7

8 Select Your Desired Network Video Recorder To cover various needs and demands on video surveillance in different facilities, Ethiris NVR is available in several different variants and series: NVR-1, NVR-2, NVR-N and NVR-C. Three different license levels with different level of functionality are available within each NVR series. You can also choose the number of channels, i.e. camera licenses. Depending on the number of connected cameras and other requirements on performance, NVR-2, NVR-N and NVR-C are available with different CPUs. For NVR-1 and NVR-C, you can choose to have up to 12 TB of internal video storage per unit. NVR-2 can have up to 24 TB of internal video storage per unit. Ethiris NVR-N is intended for storing video on external video storage, such as a NAS, which in turn can be setup as a redundant RAID-system. Furthermore, you can choose 5 years of free updates of the software in all NVR models. Number of channels/camera licenses One of the first questions you ask yourself when you are about to choose an NVR model is how many cameras will the system handle. Depending on the model, you can choose different number of camera licenses per unit: 0, 12, 16, 24, 32, 48 or 64. If the facility has more than 64 cameras or you for some reason want to divide the cameras on several NVRs, it s perfectly fine to combine several NVR units in the same system. All NVR models can be used in an Ethiris Cluster if you want to create a really reliable, redundant system. In this case, you can move the existing Ethiris license from the old computer into the new Ethiris NVR. Certainly it is important to choose an NVR model that can handle the current number of cameras, but you should also consider possible expansions of the number of cameras in the future. Of course you can add more NVR units when expanding a facility, but it is often more beneficial to choose an NVR with sufficient power and capacity from the beginning. 8 -

9 License level Ethiris VMS is available in five different license levels. Ethiris NVR is available with three of these. Ethiris Extended Ethiris Extended contains all standard features that you can expect from modern video surveillance software, such as motion detection, schedules, and SMS, PTZ, unlimited video storage, support for megapixel cameras, script, dual video streams and much more. Ethiris Advanced At the Advanced level you also get access to features such as multiple storage devices, dewarping of 360 cameras, authorization, audit trail and remote control of Ethiris Client via script. Ethiris Premium At the Premium level you get access to Ethiris Cluster, alarm central functions, encryption of video and data storage, floating camera licenses, support for GigE cameras and database connections. Video storage You can choose from two different types of hard disks. AV-disks AV-disks are optimized for handling large blocks of sequentially stored data, such as recorded video from Ethiris. They are also built for continuous operation in surveillance and security systems of the highest quality. Enterprise Enterprise disks are also built for continuous operation. They have even higher tolerance for internal parts, vibrations and heat. They handle faulty sectors significantly more efficient compared to consumer disks. Ethiris NVR Future proof choice with upgrading options Quite often the demands on a system are changed. By using Ethiris NVR, you can update to new versions, upgrade to higher license levels and expand the system with more cameras. You can choose Ethiris NVR with 5 years of free updates of the software. It is a convenient way of making sure that you always have access to the latest version of Ethiris. You can add up to the maximum number of cameras for each model regardless of the number of cameras your original system had. See the table on page

10 Select Your Desired Network Video Client Ethiris NVC-1 and NVC-2 are high performance client computers developed for connecting to one or several Ethiris NVR. All NVC models are optimized for running Ethiris Client and can display high resolution video from modern surveillance cameras of today. Both NVC-1 and NVC-2 can display a large number of frames/second (fps), hence the user gets an experience out of the ordinary with a real flow in the video presentation. The system integrator saves a lot of time since NVC-1 and NVC-2 have a well-defined performance and contain the pre-installed Ethiris Client. Apart from the pure client computers, NVC-1 and NVC-2, also NVR-C can be used as a client computer. NVC-1 is intended for viewing video on one monitor only. If you need two or three monitors, choose NVC-2. If you want to use a unit that contains both Ethiris Server and Ethiris Client, choose NVR-C. All three models are available with i5 or i7 CPUs depending on how many monitors you want to connect to the unit and how many cameras you want to view on each monitor. 11 Number of cameras per monitor NVC-1 has an integrated graphic card on the motherboard while NVC-2 and NVR-C have a separate graphic card which provides better performance, especially when more than one monitor is connected to the unit. To facilitate your choice of NVC, we have done extensive tests with various number of monitors and number of cameras that are displayed on each monitor. In our tests we have only used high-resolution cameras with Full HD resolution (1 920 x 1 080), H.264, 25 fps with a bandwidth of 2.5 Mbit/s for each camera. When it comes to NVR-C, we have had 32 cameras, of the kind described above, with both motion detection and continuous recording on all 32 cameras. 12 Useful Tools and Setup Assistance Ethiris NVR includes many useful tools for setting up your video surveillance system. In the NVR front, four LEDs display the current status of the system. You get information about power, recording, alarms and events. In an instant you can see if the system is in order or if something requires attention. Ethiris NVR Control Center The control center contains shortcuts to common tasks such as starting Ethiris Admin or logging off. It also protects the system from unauthorized access. Ethiris NVR Control Center automatically starts each time the system is started. Ethiris Admin Ethiris Admin is a common tool for configuration of all parts in a system. The whole facility can be administered centrally since Ethiris Admin can connect remotely to several Ethiris NVRs simultaneously. Configuration Guide The first time you start Ethiris Admin, a configuration guide is automatically started. Available cameras on the network that have support for either ONVIF or UPnP are added to the configuration and set up for automatic recording on motion and a default schedule. Finally a client configuration based on all found cameras, is created. The client configuration can be used by all clients that connect to the NVR. 12 -

13 System Status Quick and accurate information can be vital when it comes to operation reliability in a facility. All Ethiris NVR models are equipped with four LEDs in the front indicating current status in the system. In this way you can see the LEDs even though the NVR is mounted in a rack. Without having to be connected to the system you can get important information in an instant, such as whether Ethiris Server is running or not or if any alarm is active. In a cluster, each server indicates recording for its cameras. In a cluster, alarms and events are indicated by the master only. X X X X X X X X X This NVR is stand alone or master in a cluster. 14 Ethiris VMS - High Functionality... Ethiris NVR and NVC are pre-installed with Ethiris VMS, which contains unique features and provides the system integrator the possibility to quickly and easily configure a modern and efficient video surveillance system. There are a large number of possibilities to integrate Ethiris with other security systems to create a total security solution. Ethiris is high performance software that stores and displays information extremely efficient. The intelligent software is an open platform, thus enabling integration with a large number of different types of systems. For example via OPC, it is possible to communicate with access control systems, fire alarms, intruder alarms, superior PSIM and SCADA systems, distributed I/O and several other systems. Ethiris has support for ONVIF as well as individual protocols from leading camera manufacturers. This makes the system very easy to expand if desired. Along with the component-based architecture this makes the software highly suitable for large and demanding applications. The system integrator can easily configure an entire installation from a single workstation. Ethiris contains an advanced feature for alarm and event handling, including support for the SIA protocol for alarm central connections. Along with the good possibilities to communicate with other systems and the integrated scripting engine, the system integrator can seamlessly configure Ethiris to the current application and create a truly intelligent video management system. Ethiris app for Android and ios, Ethiris Mobile, also makes it possible to access and monitor Ethiris installations via Wi-Fi and 3G/4G 3G/4G basically wherever you are. Since Ethiris uses full encryption by default, you can rest assured that all information sent between the different parts of Ethiris, such as between Ethiris Server and the mobile app, is protected against unauthorized access. The possibility of fast and powerful redundancy with Ethiris Cluster gives Ethiris a unique position on the market and makes it very well suited for large, high security and demanding applications. The Basis of Ethiris VMS As many as eight different Ethiris components can be combined to form a system. The basic system entails three. Below is a very brief account of these three components: Ethiris Admin configures the installation. The installer can easily configure the desired features for the installation in question. Configuration is logically divided into two parts, Ethiris Server and Ethiris Client. With Ethiris Admin an entire installation using several computers can be easily configured from a single workstation. Ethiris Server manages everything that occurs automatically such as communications with cameras, recording, motion detection, alarm functionality and communications with other systems. Ethiris Server starts automatically and runs in the background, as a service in the operating system. Ethiris Client is used by the operator. It shows live and recorded video from the cameras in the installation. It also contains an event list, which logs the different events in the system, and an alarm list, which shows the activated alarms. 14 -

15 Live Video The live panel in Ethiris Client is used to view current live video from the cameras in the installation. A particular combination of views is normally pre-defined but the user can also decide which cameras should be displayed in the client. The operator selects the different views by clicking the corresponding view buttons on the view selector. The Ethiris camera list can also be used to create temporary views from selected cameras to be displayed in the main window or in a new window on the desired monitor. Recorded Video Recorded video is viewed by using the Player in Ethiris Client. The Player has two main parts: camera views and timelines. It is possible to synchronously view recorded video from 64 cameras simultaneously in the camera views. The timelines graphically display the periods of recorded video of the cameras that are currently selected in the player. The time span displayed in the timelines can be set to between one minute and six months. Export of Video Sometimes video has to be exported for viewing on another computer which does not have Ethiris installed. Ethiris contains an extremely fast export feature which exports video in a native format. The exported video can be played back by using Ethiris Viewer. Ethiris Viewer is free-of-charge software which runs on a Windows computer without having to be installed. It can be automatically copied along with an Ethiris video export. Thus exported video can easily be played back at authorities such as the Police, who normally do not allow installation of external applications in their computers. You can export to AVI from both the Player in Ethiris Client and from Ethiris Viewer. - 15

16 ...Ethiris VMS - High Functionality Alarm and Events The alarm feature in Ethiris quickly provides clear information on everything of significance that occurs in the installation. All the connected clients in the system indicate when an alarm is active. All active alarms are shown in the alarm list. The alarm list is normally empty, meaning that no warning triangles are displayed, and everything is normal in the installation. The event list in Ethiris displays important events which have occurred in the system, such as that event recording has started for a camera. Alla förändringar i larmstatus visas i eventlistan. System Alarms There are a large number of system alarms in Ethiris, i.e. automatically created alarms. Some examples of system alarms are communication error for a camera or any other device being connected to the system, storage problems and scripting errors. You can define a priority for these alarms, but you can also deactivate them if you do not want them to be displayed in the alarm list. Custom Alarms Besides the system alarms you can also define your own alarm objects using desired activation conditions and the possibility to associate the alarms with one or several cameras for automatic recording on alarm. Synchronization of recorded video All alarms and events in Ethiris can be associated with cameras. By default, Ethiris starts recording automatically for associated cameras whenever the corresponding alarm or event is activated. You can go directly form the alarm list or event list to the Player and playback the corresponding recorded video for an alarm or an event. This feature makes the work of the operator very efficient. Mobile Connectivity Sometimes you need to leave the premises. Ethiris built-in and SMS features can make sure that you get notifications whenever something important occurs in your system. For example, if a disk or a camera fails, you can get a message that notifies you about the problem. You can also use Ethiris Mobile, an app for mobile devices running Android or ios, to monitor your Ethiris NVR system. In the app you have access to live video and recorded video, the alarm list and I/O buttons for example for opening gates, activate PTZ presets or start recording of several cameras simultaneously. Ethiris Mobile Ethiris Mobile is a free-of-charge app available for mobile devices and tablets with ios or Android. Most of the features that are available in the normal Ethiris Client are also available in the app, such as live and recorded video, alarm list and I/O control. Several different configurations for the mobile can be created in advance by using Ethiris Admin. These contain views with various layouts determining how the cameras will be displayed in live. You also define possible I/O buttons which can be used for controlling various functions, such as opening gates or activating popup windows in a central client. The configurations are stored in Ethiris Server, which means that when you connect your mobile device to an Ethiris Server, you can choose which one of the available configurations you want to use. 16 -

The other servers immediately direct the tasks from the server Ec Ec Ec Ec Ec that has failed, and the clients will automatically get video from the correct server. The redundancy function in Ethiris is called Ethiris Cluster and means that several Ethiris servers are joined together in a cluster that outward acts like a sole server. The redundancy function also has many other advantages. For instance, basic load balancing since the one and same configuration is automatically distributed across multiple server computers. It will also be easier to manage a large configuration since it doesn t need to be divided between multiple servers. Script Ethiris Client The Ethiris configuration wizard automatically sets up default recording according to motion detection and a schedule. If an end-user needs more advanced functionality, it can easily be arranged by the integrator using the powerful script feature in Ethiris. Different types of interaction objects can also be added, such as buttons, text fields, camera symbols, images and doors. TCP/HTTPListeners OPC Video Search There are several ways of searching in recorded video. The timelines provide a clear overview of recorded video for up to 64 cameras simultaneously. Recordings can be searched quickly by manually dragging the time ruler. Extensive Language Support Ethiris has support for different languages in the administration tool, the client and the mobile applications. New languages are being constantly added to satisfy market demand. Send and SMS The system can automatically send messages via sms and so that the facility can be monitored although the user is not connected to Ethiris Client. By using script, you can customize a solution for the customer. Besides defining advanced conditions for recording you can for example remote control clients and automatically display relevant live and recorded video on any desired monitor. Easy Export It's easy to export recorded video and send it to selected receivers. The operator can choose to export information from any camera within a given time interval. System Information Ethiris has several features for helping the system administrator. Ethiris can for example present system alarms, statistics for cameras and the amount of recorded video for each camera. - Camera groups By grouping cameras you get a better overview and configuration of the system is more efficient. SQL Database support Via SQL database support, Ethiris can both store and retrieve information from databases. 18 Ethiris NVR Integration One of the greatest strengths of Ethiris is the integration possibilities with other systems. A modern VMS operates in a context and helps the operator to get an overview of the current status in the facility by collaborating with other security systems. ONVIF Ethiris has support for large parts of the ONVIF specification. All cameras supporting ONVIF Profile S should be able to be connected to Ethiris. Depending on the camera model you can access live video, recorded video, PTZ, I/O and Events from the cameras. OPC There is often a requirement to be able to integrate video surveillance with other security systems. In Ethiris there are several standardised ways of communicating with various types of system in order to create a well functioning complete system. Ethiris can use OPC for integration with other systems. OPC is a widely used communication standard that makes it easy to integrate Ethiris with intruder alarms, fire alarms, access control systems and other security systems. An OPC client is included in Ethiris Server. There is also an Ethiris OPC Server, which is used to let other systems connect to Ethiris Server. Ethiris uses OPC to read and write variables (information) in other systems that also have an OPCserver. In the same way, other systems with an OPC client can read and write variables in Ethiris. This means that the systems can communicate with and start activities in each other. There is, in principle, no limit to the possibilities. Via ONVIF Events Ethiris can receive analysis information from cameras about e.g. LPR (License Plate Recognition). Ethiris also has support for ONVIF Profile C, which is a standard for communication with access control systems. This means it is easy to integrate access control systems with support for ONVIF Profile C and it provides access to various alarms and events in the access control system, which can be associated with cameras in Ethiris for automatic recording and synchronization with the Player. TCP/http Ethiris can send and receive information via TCP and/or http. This is a common way of receiving analysis information from cameras and other systems that can communicate via these protocols. This function can also be used for communication with for example web servers. Database Ethiris has support for database communication via ODBC, which means that important information, such as license plate numbers from an LPR camera, can be logged directly to a SQL database. All four standard database operations, SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE, are available. It means that Ethiris also can read information from databases. Besides the possibility to store and read information specific to Ethiris, database communication also opens up for great possibilities to integration with other types of systems via a database. OPC and Modbus make it possible to seamlessly integrate access control, fire alarm and burglar alarm systems. WideQuick can be used in various infra structure projects, malls, arenas, alarm centrals and for surveillance of airports or whole cities. The purpose of a PSIM is to facilitate, streamline and help the operator making the correct decisions in critical situations. One of the great advantages with the system is that it collects relevant information from the sub systems, for example fire alarm, access control and cameras. The information is compiled in a common user interface for the operator, who doesn t have to access several different systems, but gets everything in one place on one, or maybe, two monitors connected to the PSIM system. WideQuick PSIM also contributes by filtering which information is important and can automatically execute different actions in different situations.
