2 WideQuick PSIM - an Open Solution PSIM software facilitates integration of disparate security systems and presents relevant information in one common user interface. WideQuick PSIM works as a superior system that communicates with a large number of different systems such as video management, access control, fire alarm, intruder alarm, other security and building automation systems. The inherent scalability of WideQuick PSIM makes it suitable in large applications such as city surveillance or airports as well as smaller installations. 3 Situation Management By intelligent filtering and combining alarms and events, the operator is on top of each situation that arises in the facility. Actions due to various events, can both be executed automatically and manually by operator interaction. Since the operator has instant access to all relevant information, decisions can be made swiftly. Efficiency WideQuick PSIM collects information from several different sources and presents it in one common user interface. This not only preserves the number of necessary monitors, but also makes the work much easier for the operators having only one common user interface regardless of the number of underlying security systems. WideQuick PSIM increases the efficiency of the operator s work and also reduces the risk of operator errors. Data Collection WideQuick PSIM connects to a large number of different security systems and enables bi-directional data communication. Filtering Correlating the collected data, WideQuick PSIM can use logic to determine which information is important and relevant. Presentation One of the great benefits of a PSIM solution is to compile and present relevant information to the operator. This is done in one common user interface which gives an excellent overview of the situation. The information can be presented in the control room as well as on a local computer or through a web browser. Authorisation The security system in WideQuick PSIM is based on privileges to ensure that selected parts of the system can be used by authorised personnel only. 5 Areas of Applications for PSIM City Surveillance WideQuick PSIM is a superior security system and due to its built-in scalability it is well suited for large projects such as city surveillance. A common scenario in city surveillance is to combine WideQuick PSIM and Ethiris VMS to create a truly intelligent system that can take full advantage of the seamless integration between the two software. Airports WideQuick PSIM is installed at several airports around the world, for example Dallas, Heathrow, Gatwick and Geneva. At Dallas airport Wide- Quick PSIM communicates with a docking system from Safegate. They communicate via the standardised OPC interface and present real-time information at the 160 gates. Prisons WideQuick PSIM is used as a superior security system for prisons. A large number of disparate security systems such as access control, video surveillance and fire alarm are connected to WideQuick PSIM where all the information is collected and presented to the operator in one common user interface. Arenas There is a considerable need for surveillance of the stands at matches, concerts and other events. WideQuick PSIM and Ethiris VMS provide an efficient way of controlling multiple PTZ cameras with a single operator click. Predefined scenarios such as stand scan, crowd entrance and home position further increase operator efficiency. Other Applications WideQuick PSIM is commonly used for shopping centres. 6 WideQuick PSIM Features PSIM software contains many useful features. In WideQuick PSIM most features are ready-touse, but the flexibility and the powerful tools make it extremely easy to create high-level functionality by combining various objects and functions. Project Templates Presentation Layers A number of example projects are included in the installation of WideQuick PSIM. These projects contain great examples of what can be achieved and how to do it. A well-thoughtthrough structure is applied to the examples and they can easily be reused and adjusted as desired, using the powerful graphical features. Due to the smart dynamic features of WideQuick PSIM, any object can be displayed/hidden based on its condition. This feature can be used to provide presentation layers that can be activated both automatically and manually. Alarms and Events Statistics and Trends The alarm and event module in WideQuick PSIM is very sophisticated and was originally developed for the SCADA market. In WideQuick PSIM any variable can be logged cyclically or when a change in value occurs. There are predefined objects for displaying both statistic and trend graphs of all desired variables. Statistic and trend graphs provide an excellent tool for making sound decisions. By combining these with alarm logs and alarm frequency lists, it facilitates investigations and may very well constitute the difference of failure and success in finding the culprits in an alarm situation. Standard Operating Procedures In a stressful situation, it is of great importance that the operator gets as much support from the system as possible. Presenting a list of checkboxes with mandatory actions for the operator to perform upon an alarm is a clear and safe way to make sure that standard procedures are maintained. 6 -

There are virtually no limits for what the system integrator can achieve using script. A built-in variable browser, intellisense and drag & drop make scripting easier than ever before. Powerful ready-to-use objects such as the ActiveX container and the HTML object, allow seamless integration with third-party tools and websites. Script and Data Store WideQuick PSIM provides the integrator with a scripting language for easily enhancing more advanced functionality in PSIM systems. The scripting language is also available for performing mathematical and logical calculations in all forms of dynamics. The scripts can be executed in various situations in WideQuick PSIM, such as the result of an event or continously in dynamics or schedules. HTML ActiveX Objects An ActiveX container is included in WideQuick PSIM, which means that you can embed any ActiveX component in your presentation. COM components can also be used, and are available for usage in the scripting engine. Language Support HTML Objects WideQuick PSIM has an HTML browser with support for HTML documents and communications with web servers. It also includes support for other web-related technologies, for example running JavaScript from websites. Unit Conversion WideQuick Designer includes an advanced tool for extracting text in projects and gathering them in translation files. In addition, there is an integrated feature for creating immediate translations to the desired language. Security and Privileges To ensure that selected parts of the system can be used by authorized personnel only, several security functions are integrated. The security system is based on privileges and thus can be structured freely. - WideQuick PSIM includes functionality that enables switching between unit systems at any time. A project can initially be built up with for example the SI and US units, and later easily be supplemented with additional unit systems. Databases WideQuick PSIM can communicate with ODBC data sources. This entails access to nearly all database software on the market such as SQL Server and Oracle. The database connections can also be used when historical data is logged to the databases. 7

8 W NW SW N S NE E SE WideQuick Designer WideQuick Designer is used for development and configuration of all WideQuick PSIM applications, regardless of whether the information should be presented directly in Runtime Client, Remote Client or in Web Client through a web browser. The application is built with objects that are quickly configured and adapted to the specific application. By using one of the example projects provided with WideQuick PSIM, the system integrator is well on the way to a complete working system. This means that you can preview at any time to see what the project will look like and work in WideQuick Runtime. If external units or systems are connected, communications will also be operable. Web Client WideQuick Web Client is a web server module that connects to WideQuick Runtime and enables a facility to be monitored and controlled via standard web browsers on both computers and mobile units. It can be run on Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) on Windows or on a web server with support for Fast CGI on GNU/Debian Linux, such as Apache, or be run on its own. WideQuick Web Client does not require installation of any plug-in modules on the computer. In other words, no ActiveX component, Adobe Flash Player, Oracle Java or Microsoft Silverlight plug-ins are necessary on the computer, only a modern web browser. 8 -

Object Library In WideQuick PSIM there are predefined object libraries for all the typical security systems such as fire alarm, intruder alarm, access control and building automation. In addition, it is possible to create custom objects and put them in the object library for reuse in both the current project as well as other projects. From the object library, you can drag & drop the desired number of instances of the object to one or more workviews in the project. The dynamics of the new instances operate independently. If the symbol is changed in the object library, it is promoted to all instances in the project. The object library is another reason for the success of WideQuick PSIM and for being seen as one of the fastest and most efficient tools in the industry. Undo/Redo The powerful undo/redo list keeps track of every change that is made in the on-going project. It s easy to go back and forth in the list, effectively undoing/redoing the previous work. This is a great time saver and gives opportunities to try new ideas without being afraid to ruin the project. Even though, many times the system integrator wants to change some details in the user interface. One of the most appreciated features of WideQuick PSIM are the powerful tools for graphical design. With a minimum of training most users can achieve amazing results using the WideQuick Designer. For example, changing the color of every fire alarm detector in a project is done in an instant, simply change the color for the object in the object library. 10 Smart Integration with Ethiris VMS Ethiris VMS from Kentima is very competent video management software with prominent features, such as cluster, scripting and OPC communication. Due to the seemless integration with WideQuick PSIM it is the natural choice for video surveillance in a PSIM solution. The complete Ethiris VMS system can be remotely controlled, automatically or manually, from WideQuick PSIM, for example creating video walls or viewing video recordings using Ethiris Client. Furthermore, there is an EthirisView object included in WideQuick PSIM for viewing live and recorded video directly in the WideQuick PSIM user interface.
