1 Lab5 INTRODUCTION TO PICDEM Z DEVELOPMENT ENVIRONMENT EET 4730 By 1

2 Test set up ZigBee wireless network setup demonstration. A major component needed for this exercise is the Microchip ZigBee Stack. ZigBee Stack is used to carryout software protocol handshaking. The Zena Wireless Network Analyzer will be used to monitor the traffic. For Zena software installation refer to the end of this slide show. 2

3 Test set up To accomplish the exercises, several development tools are required, such as: HyperTerminal for serial communication to display ZigBee node output the MPLAB IDE and ICD 2 Debugger used to program the microprocessor. 3

4 Test set up Following is a list of the actual test performed and components involved: ZigBee Coordinator democoordinator.hex ZigBee Reduced Function Device (RFD) demorfd.hex Testing of the ZigBee lighting profile 4

5 Note: Test set up Test the hex files instead of building the various projects available for compiling and debugging. 5

6 Test Setup Connect the ICD2 to the PICDEM Z Coordinator via RJ45 Connect the ICD2 to the PC (USB) Power on the PicDem Z Coordinator board 6

7 Start MPLAB IDE software Test Setup 7

8 Select the Device and the Board Select Configure>>Select Device 8

9 Select the Device and the Board Make sure to select PIC18F4620 Press OK 9

10 Test Demo Coordinator.hex This is the default project loaded as the original demo firmware From the MPLAB IDE File menu select the Import function to import from C:\mpzbee\DemoCoo rdinator and load the hex file (DemoCoordinator.h ex). 10

26 Running the Demo Connect one end of the RS232 cable to PicDem Z Coordinator board and the other one to your PC, to set up serial communication 26

27 Running the Demo 1) From the Windows Start button or All Programs, select Accessories, Communications, select HyperTerminal application. 2) The following screens will prepare the connection, enter the values required and press OK. 27

40 Running the Demo If you don t get anything on the HyperTerminal, try this: Make sure that the SCROLL button on the bottom of the HyperTerminal is grayed out. 40

41 Running the Demo If you STILL don t get anything on the HyperTerminal, try this: The switch on both boards controls the 9v battery. Turn this switch OFF then ON If you have a power supply connected to the boards, then try to DISCONNECT and RECONNECT the power. 41

42 Binding/Unbinding Within 3 seconds, do the following: Press MCLR button on the Coordinator, Press RB5 button on the Coordinator Turn ON the switch to power the RFD Press RB4 on the RFD In order to toggle the other device's LED light: Press RB4 Switch on either device to toggle the other device s RA1 LED light 34 42

44 Running the Demo If the LED s will not toggle, try unbinding and binding several times until it works

45 Insert USB Cable Here Zena Analyzer Plug one end of the supplied USB cable into the PC, the other end goes into the Zena Wireless Analyzer 45

46 Zena Analyzer Launch the Zena Application. Go to: Start>Programs> Microchip Software Stack For ZigBee>Zena 46

47 Zena Analyzer From the Zena Application, go to the ZigBee Tools menu, and select the Network Traffic Monitor Select: Network Traffic Monitor 47

48 Zena Analyzer On the Network Monitor window, verifiy that channel 17 is selected. Press the Green Play arrow. Then press reset on the Coordinator board. If you don t see any output, press stop, change the channel, and press play again, resetting the Coordinator board. Try this till you get an output PLAY 48

50 Zena Analyzer Next, we can view a virtual representation of the ZigBee Network by using the Network Configuration Display. From the Network Monitor window, select View, then select Network Configuration Display 50

54 Zena Software Installation Installing ZigBee and Zena software: You will need the Embedded Software disc from Dr.Yaprak. First, run the ZENA v2.0 Upgrade.exe file from the CD, in the Source Folder. 54

61 ZigBee Software Installation Insert the ZigBee Installer disc into the computer. Double click on MpZBeeV to launch the installer 61
