2 Preamble Dear TCM-Customer, Please read through these instruction carefully, before operating your devices. It contains many information that will help you with getting acquainted with your device. We ask you to take note of the safety and usage hints made in this document. The use of gas projectors for shows brings a lot of responsibility with it, since handling and using flame effects can yield high risks. When using gas projectors, always follow any guidelines of your country concerning large gatherings of people, fire safety, and gas uses. 4 1 Overview/Description of components 1.1 General The gas projectors of the TCM-FLAME series are used to create flame pillars and flame bursts. The gas projectors can be used indoors, as well as outdoors. The TCM-FLAME can be controlled with the Mastermodule or an external trigger impulse (9VDC - 80VDC). Optionally, you can use a DMX protocol. The TCM-FLAME has an integrated Lead gel Accumulator, and does not need a constant 230V power supply.

6 1.3 Front- and side connectors of the TCM-FLAME On the Front side (see above) you can find the ON/OFF switch, as well as the Mastermodule connectors and the DMX connectors. On the left side of the gas projector, you can find an additional charging socket (see left).

7 1.4 Description of Components Electrical ignition The electrical ignition gives the High voltage spark, which ignites the gas. In the switched ON setting, nobody may touch the protective cage or the ignition nodes Gas nozzle This part ejects the gas with pressure into the direction of the electrical ignition. Please make sure the screwed in nozzle is not part of any mechanical pressures. If the nozzle is screwed in poorly, it could happen that the gas is not ejected into the right direction, and will therefore not ignite or will form a fire hazard Electronic and components connected to it The electronic is used to control the gas projector. It features some connector sockets, two status LEDs, and a dip switch with 10 switches. The connector sockets can be screwed loose. Should you need to change the electronic, for example to send it to the manufacturer for a software update, only disconnect the whole sockets from the electronic, not the cables. Status-LEDs

The charging socket can only be used to charge the internal 12V (2.4Ah) Battery. By use of the ON/OFF switch, can the gas projector be turned ON or OFF. When storing or transporting the gas projector, please make sure it is switched off to avoid deep discharging of the battery Mastermodule(-connector) The Mastermodule connectors (male socket = IN, female socket = OUT) are used to connect the gas projector with the Mastermodule. Important: Do not connect DMX cables to the Mastermodule sockets, since these could drain the internal battery. Take note of the following colour coding of the plugs: DMX The DMX- connectors (male socket = IN, female socket = OUT) are used to connect the gas projectors with a DMX controller. Take note of the following colour coding on the plug:

11 2 Usage of the TCM-FLAME 2.1 General hints about the usage Use of camping gas (Propane- Butane mix) The general safety precautions when using gas, as well as the instructions in the safety sheet of the gas are to be followed. Propane is heavier than air, and should not be used in unventilated areas, or ground impressions (deeper than 30cm), or near discharge vents. Especially near basements, and ground impressions, a highly combustible gas- air mix can develop. To extinguish, only use CO²-fire extinguishers Choosing the right type of nozzle When choosing a nozzle, one must differentiate between using Aerosol cartridges, or Propane-butane mixes. Furthermore, there is a difference between liquid and gaseous gas. Gaseous gas is used when the gas bottle is upright. Liquid gas is used when the gas bottle is on its head. Liquid gas mostly yields higher flame heights, but also uses up more gas. For a detailed overview of the nozzles, have a look at the following page (Attention: in the standard supply of the gas projector, only the two outdoor nozzles are supplied).

Please ask the manufacturer for further informations. ***The above data is true for 20 C outside temperature, and no wind. Wind and cold can affect the flame height and form strongly ***

13 2.1.3 Positioning the system The gas projectors may only be used in ventilated rooms. The following safety distances are to be adhered: The device must be placed at enough distance to all living beings or objects, so that they may not be harmed during the use of the device. The manufacturer recommends a 2m radius, and 8m height distance to all objects and people. Generally the distances set by local laws and security personnel must be adhered. Take note of the wind direction during positioning. It is recommended to have the gas connectors on the side facing away from the audience Connecting the gas bottles The gas bottles must be placed on firm, horizontal ground, and be proofed against tipping. The gas hose should be connected to the gas projector first, and then with the gas bottle. Before connecting, the closing valve of the projector must be closed. It s recommended to test the device for leak tightness, with a leak tightness spray. The gas connector is a Euro-connector with 30mm wrench width. Note that the connector has a left hand thread. Up to 3 devices can be connected by use of T-adapters to a single bottle. Should you use more gas projectors, further gas bottles must be used Switching ON The device is switched ON by use of the rocker-switch at the front. To turn it on, put the switch into the "I" position. You can check if the device is ON, by checking the status LEDs. 2.3 Switching OFF To switch the device OFF, put the Switch into the "O" position. Checking the status LEDs tells you if it is turned OFF.

14 2.4 Control The control of the TCM-FLAME can be made by 3 types: 1.) Control via the Mastermodule 2.) Control via an external trigger impulse This allows you to activate the gas projector by connecting an external trigger impulse to the grey double cable. The opening time is set with the dip switches, or the stepper software. Using longer trigger impulses, the gas projector will activate for as long as the power is connected. The trigger impulse must be between 9VDC and 80VDC. (You do not need to check the polarity) 3.) Control via DMX see attachment "DMX-control" 2.5 Dismounting the system After use, the first thing is to close the valve on the gas bottle. Vent the hose and the gas projector by igniting until no more flame appears. Defective devices must be checked and repaired either by the manufacturer, or an official partner. Under no circumstances may defective devices be used. The devices must be placed safely on an adequate place. The device should be placed horizontally on the ground if possible. The named safety distances and usage hints from the manual are to be adhered. Nobody may linger in the danger area of the device after switching the device ON, including all possible discharge locations. Everybody working in the show, are to be informed about safety distances, dangers and functions of the device. The person responsible for controlling the gas projectors should always have a direct line of sight to the device. This person must see to it that the safety distances are kept during the show, and be able to abort the show if there is danger.

The integrated 10part Dipswitch allows you to make several adjustments, like assigning a DMX adress, or opening time (when using a Mastermodule), before use of the device. 1 Dip switches Switch facing up: Switch position "ON" Switch facing down: Switch position "OFF" ON : DMX- use OFF : Mastermodul- use (only when using Mastermodule) ON : Jet-Number can be assigned. Value if ON OFF : Opening time can be adjusted. Value if OFF The Dip Switch uses 10 single switches (see graphic above). Using the switches 1-8 (from the left), the opening time of an external ignition during Mastermodule use can be assigned, during DMX-use, the DMX adress is assigned. Switch 9 can be used to lock/unlock the adjusting of the opening time during an external ignition. Switch 10 is used to jump between DMX and Mastermodule use.

18 1.1 Explanation of Switches 1-8 Each of the eight switches has its own value (using the binary system, as shown below), which are used if the switch is in the "ON" position. The sum of all 8 activated switches is the opening time, or DMX adress During Mastermodule-use Setting the opening time for external ignition. Switch Opening time (ms) Example Opening time: An opening time of 400ms should be used. The time can be calculated by summation of the opening times = 400. These values are assigned to switches 3 (80ms) and ms). Therefore, to achieve an opening time of 400ms, the Switches 3 and 5 must be in the "ON" position, and all others at the "OFF" position.

19 1.1.2 During DMX-use Setting the DMX-adress Switch Value Example DMX-adressing: Adress 14 should be set. Therefore, the sum of all switch values must be 14. This sum is achieved by the summation of = 14. These values are assigned to the switches 2(value2), 3 (value4) and 4 (value8). 3 To achieve adress 14, switches 2,3 and 4 must be in the "ON" position, and all others at the "OFF" position.

21 1.2 Explanation of switch 9 DMX-use: Switch 9 has no effect during DMX-use. 1.3 Explanation of Switch 10 This switch allows you to jump between Mastermodule and DMX use. If the switch is "ON", DMX-mode is used, if it is "OFF", the Mastermodule mode will be used. Note: The settings at the Switch must be made before the device is turned on. Should any changes be made while the device is on, these will only take hold once the device has been turned off and on again. If you wish to set a new opening time, check that switch 9 is "OFF". Before using the device, check if switch 10 is in the correct position. Important: In Mastermodule mode, the first 8 switches assign the opening time, in DMX mode they set the adress! 5 2 Overview of DMX The TCMFX Flame Jetis controlled by two DMX-channels. The first channel is the one with the adress set at the Jet istelf, using the Dip switches. This channel is used to activate the Jet. The second DMX-channel is the one following the first. It is used to set the opening time of the Jet. To activate a TCMFX Flame Jet, you must first set the wanted opening time using channel 2. The channels are set from 0-255, where value 255 indicates a fully activated lever (100%) (see next page graphics). The opening time in milliseconds is calculated as follows: (Lever value - 10) * 20ms = Opening time in ms

22 Note the following for the value of the lever: Lever value channel2 (Opening time) Description 1-10 Not usable, safety TCMFX-Flame Jet-Function: The values in this zone can be used to set the opening time. Minimum: value 11 = 20ms Maximum: value 200 = 3800ms Duration function: If the channel is set in this zone, the device will be opened permanently Not usable, safety 6 Only after setting the opening time, the TCMFX Flame Jet can be activated, by pushing channel 1 over it's value 253 (meaning 254 or 255). LED Status signals in DMX mode: As soon as the TCMFX Flame Jet gets a signal, the green LED will begin flashing. If the second channel is changed, the green LED will be lit permanently. If the first channel is pushed above value 100, the red LED will be lit. Examples for opening times: 3 Note: If the green LED is not lit or flashing in DMX mode, then the Jet isn't getting a valid signal. In this case you should check the connection to the Jet, as well the settings at the DIP switches. The opening time in DMX-mode, which is set using channel 2, has no deeper connection to the opening time set for the external ignition in mastermodule mode. Use exclusively the formula and table on the previous page to set the opening time in DMX-mode!

24 4 Use of the TCMFX Flame Jet 4.1 Mastermodul- mode: The opening time for the external ignition can be set using the switches 1-8, and Switch 10 at "OFF", to activate Mastermodule mode. 4.2 DMX- mode: Example using a TCMFX Flame Jet: We have a DMX-mix table, and wish to use lever 3 to ignite a TCMFX Flame Jet. We are assuming that the sub item "Usage" in the main manual of teh TCMFX Flame Jet has been read and will only describe the steps different from the Mastermodule mode. 1. Setting the Dip switches at the TCMFX FLAME JET: 8 Explanation: Before using the TCMFX FLAME JET, the DMX-adress of the first DMX channel must be set using the switches 1-8. Furthermore, the switch 10 must be set to "ON". Method: Using the values for the Dipswitch in DMX mode, we must calculate which switches need to be turned "ON", and which ones "OFF", to acieve the wanted adress 3. Switch Value = 3 (Sum of the values = Adress number) Result: To use a TCMFX Flame Jet in DMX mode with the adress 3, the settings at the dip switches must look as below:

25 2. Connecting the components: Explanation: After setting the Dip switches at the projector, the device can be conneted to the DMX-mix table. Method: We connect the DMX-output of the DMX mix table with the DMX input of the TCMFX Flame Jet, using a 3 pole XLR cable, whose pins are connected 1:1. We remember that the DMX input is the socket featuring the indicator "DMX IN". Since we are only using on TCMFX Flame Jet for our example, the DMX output wih the writing "DMX OUT" is not used. Important: To guarantee a show without hitches, you should connect a spare battery or Charger to the socket labeled "Master OUT/ Charger". Result: The system should look as below: 9

26 3. Control: After the setup, the TCMFX Flame Jet can be switched on, and be controlled via the DMX mix table. As wanted we are using channel 3, meaning that the following channel (Channel4) is the one used to set the opening time. Channel 3 Opening time channel 4 10 The Flash-Button can also be used to ignite the device! Note Of course you can control more TCMFX Flame Jetwith the mix table. Simply connect the DMX output (DMX OUT) with the DMX input (DMX IN) of the following CO²-Jet. It is not possible to charge the devices using the DMX socket. Therefore, if you wish to charge all devices at once, you must connect the Master IN to the Master OUT / Charger sockets as well, using a 3 pole XLR cable.
