Do not approach the antenna closer than the distances shown below when the antenna is transmitting. The antenna emits radio waves that can be harmful to the human body. CAUTION Ground the transceiver unit. Ground the transceiver unit to prevent electrical shock and interference. Confirm that the power supply voltage is compatible with the voltage rating of the equipment. Connection to the wrong power supply can cause fire or damage the equipment. HOW TO INSTALL THE EQUIPMENT 1.1 Transceiver Unit MST-1124/1124M General installation remarks The transceiver unit (can 4pcs.) installed in a housing unit model MSU Select a location where the controls can be easily operated and a location that is near the power source and the ground location. Additionally, select a location that meets the following conditions: Select a location away from water spray and water splash. The location must not be in direct sunlight, because of heat that can increase inside the unit. Leave some additional length in cables to allow a service technician to move the radio from its normal location with the cables connected. Do not install the unit where flammable gases are stored. Select a location that provides good ventilation. Leave enough space at the sides and rear of the unit for maintenance and service purposes and to provide cool air Housing unit installation Set the transceiver unit to the housing unit and tighten the knob bolts. 1.2 VHF Antenna Requirements for the dipole antenna Any good quality antenna that meets the requirements shown below can be used. Frequency range: 155 to 164 MHz VSWR, not more than: 1.5 Gain OMNI, dbi: OFFSET, dbi: Sector in vertical plane, -3dB: Impedance: 50 ohms Min. power input, W: 50 W Quality: Withstand the marine environment Temperature range, C: -50 to Installation location The location and installation of different antennas is important to ensure effective communications. Incorrectly installed antennas will degrade performance of the radio equipment and reduce the range of communications. Select the location for the antenna considering the following points. 7 VHF antennas should be placed in a position which is as elevated and free as possible, with at least 2 meters horizontal separation from constructions made by conductive materials. Ideally there should not be more than one antenna on the same level. The location of mandatory VHF antennas should be given priority compared with mobile telephone antennas. If they are located on the same level, the distance between them should be at least 5 meters Mounting procedure The basic mounting procedure for the antennas supplied by Marcom is as follows: 1. Fasten the antenna bracket to the stanchion. 2. Set the antenna to the antenna bracket and tighten bolts. 3. Screw the coaxial cable plug into the antenna. 1.3 VHF Antenna The antenna must be separated from the antennas, masts, and other objects that can cause interference. Follow the recommended separation distances in section The installation procedure is like that for the VHF antenna. 1.4 AC-DC Power Supply Power supplied to the transceiver unit, through an AC/DC redundant power supply model MSPS Installation location Select the location that meets the following conditions: Select a location that provides good ventilation. The location must be clean and dry. 1.5 VHF transceivers Housing Unit model MSU-1124 Install the MSU-1124 in rack 19" model MSBA-100-A or in rack 19" model MSBA-800. The location must meet the following points: Select a location where you can operate controls easily Select a location away from water splash. The temperature and humidity of the location must be both stable and moderate. How to install the housing unit 1. Set the housing unit to the bolts. 2. Fasten the console with the bolts to the rack 19". 3. Set MST-1124/1124M to the housing unit. Note: To connect wires after you have hung the console. 4. Fasten the MST-1124/1124M with the bolts to housing unit. Page 7 of 31

8 1.6 Installing the Rails and Server in a Rack 1. Secure the rails to the front of the rack using two screws and to the back of the rack using four screws. 2. Align the keyhole slot on the chassis rails with the corresponding pin on either side of the system and slide the chassis rails towards the front of the system until it locks into place. Secure the chassis rails to the system using screws. 3. Align and insert the ends of the chassis rails into the ends of the rails and push the system inward until the chassis rails lock into place. 9 4. Tighten the thumbscrews to secure the ears of system to the rack. 1.7 Installing Monitor of ARM-1126 and ARM-1128 To attach the monitor stand: 1. Remove the cover and place the monitor on it. 2. Fit the two tabs on the upper part of the stand to the groove on the back of the monitor. 3. Press the stand till it snaps into place. Page 9 of 31

17 2.1 VHF Antenna The VHF antenna is connected to the transceiver unit with a 50 ohm coaxial cable, type RG- 214/U. Make sure you leave some additional length in the cable for future service and maintenance. Lay the coaxial cable and fasten an M-type plug to the cable (if necessary) as follows. 1. Remove the sheath by 35 mm. 2. Bare 23 mm of the center conductor. Trim the braided shield by 10 mm and tin. 3. Slide the coupling ring on the cable. 4. Screw the plug assembly on the cable. 5. Solder plug assembly to the braided shield through the solder holes. Solder the contact sleeve to the conductor. 6. Screw the coupling ring into the plug assembly. 7. Screw the plug into the ANT connector at the rear of the transceiver unit. Sheath 35 mm 10 mm 2 mm Plug assembly Contact sleeve Solder here. Cut conductor here. 2.2 How to Ground the Transceiver Unit Transceiver is grounded through the J1 connector at the rear of the transceiver unit. More information you can find in service manual. 18 2.3 AC/DC Power Supply Unit MSPS-1124 The AC/DC Power Supply Unit MSPS-1124 is shipped ready for connection to 220 VAC. To power on the supply, all the switches located on the front panel (the switches on the two PWS modules, the switch on the BCU module and the main switch on the GPM-124 module) must be turned ON. If the unit is powered from mains, all green LEDs will light up. Ø MAIN PW LED on the PWS modules Ø CHARGER PW LED on the PWS modules Ø POWER LED on the BCU module Ø POWER LED on the GPM module Powering on of the BCU module is more complex and happens in 4 phases, recognisable by the lighting of the front panel LEDs: Ø All the LEDs, except "OPEN FUSE", turn on; Ø One or more LEDs turn on showing the firmware version; Ø Again, all LEDs turn on; Ø Only the green "POWER" LED turns on and the BCU module operates fully. 14 Page 18 of 31

19 2.3.1 Front panel controls Figure MSPS-1124 front panel shows the front panel of the MSPS-1124 power supply. The front panel contains the following items: MSPS-1124 ON-OFF switch Switch for turning the unit on and off. BITE INH Switches to disable fault indications for the PWS and BCU modules. POWER Green LED Power on. BITE PWS 1 Red LED Fault in the PWS-1124 module no. 1. BITE PWS 2 Red LED Fault in the PWS-1124 module no. 2. BITE BCU Red LED Fault in the BCU-1124 module. FUSE OUT 1 Red LED Fuse OUT 1 (back panel) open. FUSE OUT 2 Red LED Fuse OUT 2 (back panel) open. FUSE OUT 3 Red LED Fuse OUT 3 (back panel) open. 20 2.3.2 Module hot swapping The PWS-1124 and BCU-1124 modules can be hot-swapped in case of need and/or for maintenance (that is, without removing supply from the other power supply components). Act as follows to replace a module: Switch off the module to be replaced; Remove the module (after removing fastening screws); Insert the new module and switch it on. 21 Protective earth Connect a cround wire between the ground and the ground terminal on the MSPS-1124 to prevent electrical shock. CAUTION Attach protective earth securely to the ship's ground. The protective earth (grounding) is required to prevent electrical shock. GND terminal Page 21 of 31

22 2.4 MST-1124/1124M VHF Transceiver Unit The MST-1124/1124M transceiver is supplied with the MSU-1124 rack frame, which can host up to 4units MST-1124/1124Ms and takes care of powering them from mains and managing alarm signals. Difference between models MST-1124 and MST-1124M is build in DSC modem in MST-1124 model. The operating frequency range of the MST-1124/1124M is MHz, with 25 khz or 12.5 khz channel spacing. Modulation used is RTF (G3E/F3E) for MST-1124M, DSC (G2B) only for MST-1124; the maximum RF power radiated is 40 W carriers (nominal). The MST-1124/1124M can be remotely controlled via two serial ports (RS232 and RS422) used to exchange control signals and digitally encoded audio data. It is therefore highly suitable in cases where a small bandwidth is available for remote control. Moreover, the MST-1124/1124M features IP connectivity via 100baseT Ethernet for monitoring and remote control. The device can acquire up to 5 external digital alarm signals (active-low inputs); the state of these inputs can be read through the remote control interface (via serial or IP). A 600-Ω 4W E/M port (Rx+Tx) is available, as well as a dedicated audio port for analog recording. The MST-1124/1124M is an Eurocard module that can be hosted inside a rack, called MSU-1124, which can contain up to 4 units. The MSU-1124 unit provides supply to transceivers and ensures proper cooling by means of axial fans that start operation when the temperature exceeds a threshold value. 14 Page 22 of 31

23 2.4.1 Front panel controls Figure shows the front panel of the MST-1124/1124M transceiver. 24 2.5 MSU-1124 TRANSCIVER HOISTING FRAME MSU-1124 The MSU-1124 frame is designed to host MST-1124/1124M transceivers in a 19" rack, and to provide dc power for the transceivers (see the MST-1124/1124M operator and installation manual to know more about its specifications). The MSU-1124 is a 19" rack frame 4U high. Up to four MST-1124/1124M transceivers can be hosted inside a MSU The MSU-1124 can supply power to the transceivers it contains, and it can manage their ALARM and BITE signals. The frame hosts two cooling fans. The enclosure is completely built in aluminium, highly resistant to shock and vibration Module hot swapping The MST-1124/1124M VHF transciver can be hot-swapped in case of need and/or for maintenance. 26 2.5 Voice operator workstation model ARM Voice operator workstation model ARM-1127 The ARM-1127 represents the touch screen computer of the Marinsys VIS system. The operator interacts with the terminal through a touch screen monitor, in addition to the standard mouse and keyboard. The user will also have available, as standard equipment with the terminal, a pair of earphones(with microphone and PTT button), and integrated speakers. The ARM-1127 is presented to the operator with a single application with it sown graphical interface (GUI), user friendly and intuitive. Every operator can interact with the system through specific interfaces, with which it is possible to configure the parameters of the radio resources available. The operator can also verify the status of other operators in the network, can make full duplex calls to other terminals or PSTN lines. ARM-1127 The main functions of the ARM-1127 are: Telephone communications; Access to the remote radio devices in half duplex or duplex mode with transmission enabled by the PTT on the ARM-1127 Page 26 of 31

27 2.5.2 Audio devices and external equipment Several types of devices can be simultaneously connected to the ARM Devices such as : Microphone with dual РТТ; Headphone; Handset ; Foot switch two pedals; As shown in the figure below, it is possible to connect to the ARM-1127 up to three simultaneous audio devices (connectors are located in the rear side of the ARM-1127) or two audio devices and one foot switch with two pedals. To be specific, there are three independent audio resources each one managed by its own internal board.
