19 Telephone Line Surge - Type B, Metallic Test Reference: TSB-31-B Par 5.5 The EUT was subjected to two 1000V surges between tip & ring (one of each polarity) with a 10 microsecond rise time by 700 microsecond decay time to half crest (the peak short circuit current is at least 25 A) produced by a generator designed in accordance with the requirements of ITU recommendation K.21. (Note- the ITU 10 x 700 waveform meets the tolerances of the 9 x 720 waveform of paragraph Criteria: The unit must withstand the type B surge testing without causing permanent shorting or opening of the interface circuit and without sustaining any damage affecting compliance. 20 Telephone Line Surge - Type B, Longitudinal The EUT was subjected to two 1500V surges (one of each polarity) between the Tip/Ring pair and ground with a 10 microsecond rise time by 700 microsecond decay time to half crest (In the onhook state) produced by a generator with a capacity of at least 37.5 amps peak short circuit. The generator is designed in accordance with the requirements of ITU recommendation K.21. (Note-the ITU 10 x 700 waveform meets the tolerances of the 9 x 720 waveform of paragraph ) Criteria: The unit must not open the interface circuit by opening a trace, fuse or component of the interface circuit. Also, the unit shall not sustain a short and shall continue to meet on-hook impedance limitations and shall not sustain any damage affecting compliance.
