OVERVIEW The Telit Evaluation Kit for Mini PCIe provides a robust, future-proof and flexible environment to streamline all application development based on Telit Mini PCIe families, significantly reducing time-to-market. The kit includes a motherboard where to connect the Interface board of a Telit Mini PCIe. The motherboard includes the basic interfaces such as Power input, SIM card holder, USB, antenna connections etc. NOTE: (EN) The integration of the Mini PCIe cellular module within user application shall be done according to the design rules described in this manual. 11 Description The EVK (CS9B) is a motherboard that permits to connect and use all the Telit Module s Interfaces. It can be split into several functional blocks depending on the implemented function; The following picture shows the top side of the CS5 board. STARTUP PROCEDURE Respect the following order to use the Mini PCIe EVK : insert your SIM card if the product has no SIM holder or SIMchip onboard set the jumper PL4 in the desired position depending on DC source plug the mpcie board into SO6 connect the module antennas to RF connectors SO8, SO9 and SO connect the antennas to RF connectors SO, SO and SO4 (par 6.5) depending from DC source, plug the external power supply into PL or connect the red \ black cable to the.v source switch ON the power supply connect the USB cable between your PC and the S5 connector install Telit driver on PC Your Mini PCIe EVK should now be operational and the mpcie module ready. 13 Power supply setting The Mini PCIe EVK could be powered by different external sources. The requested setting is made inserting the proper jumper connector in the right position as described in the following paragraphs. Be careful to the connections, even if every supply line is protected by a diode against polarity reversing. Direct DC source Connect a +,V / A direct DC source to FH-FH respecting polarization polarity. Set PL4 jumper as in picture below, no other jumpers are needed. Figure 5: LED_WWAN# position Switch PERST# Whenever the PERST# SWITCH is pressed, you could reset the Telit module in use. When the device is reset, it stops any operation without doing any detach operation from the network where when it is registered and it reboots after the release of the Reset Switch. 23 6. SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS READ CAREFULLY Be sure the use of this product is allowed in the country and in the environment required. The use of this product may be dangerous and has to be avoided in the following areas: Where it can interfere with other electronic devices in environments such as hospitals, airports, aircrafts, etc. Where there is risk of explosion such as gasoline stations, oil refineries, etc. It is the responsibility of the user to enforce the country regulation and the specific environment regulation. Do not disassemble the product; any mark of tampering will compromise the warranty validity. We recommend following the instructions of the hardware user guides for correct wiring of the product. The product has to be supplied with a stabilized voltage source and the wiring has to be conformed to the security and fire prevention regulations. The product has to be handled with care, avoiding any contact with the pins because electrostatic discharges may damage the product itself. Same cautions have to be taken for the SIM, checking carefully the instruction for its use. Do not insert or remove the SIM when the product is in power saving mode. The system integrator is responsible for the functioning of the final product; therefore, care has to be taken to the external components of the module, as well as any project or installation issue, because the risk of disturbing the GSM network or external devices or having impact on the security. Should there be any doubt, please refer to the technical documentation and the regulations in force. Every module has to be equipped with a proper antenna with specific characteristics. The antenna has to be installed with care in order to avoid any interference with other electronic devices and has to guarantee a minimum distance from the body ( cm). In case this requirement cannot be satisfied, the system integrator has to assess the final product against the SAR regulation. The European Community provides some Directives for the electronic equipment introduced on the market.
