1 E IO-Link evaluation Kit PCB 2 (with external transistor) AN 006 E IO-Link Transceiver Evaluation Kit PCB 2 (with external transistor) 1 What you get - E IO-Link Evaluation Kit PCB 2 2 What you need - Standard 4-wire IO-Link connection cable with M12 plug - 24V power supply unit (if not supplied by master device through connection cable) - Your application board with microcontroller - IO-Link master device (optional) Overview The IO-Link evaluation KIT PCB 2 gives an example of a small application of the ELMOS E IO-Link device on a printed circuit board designed compliant to EMC requirements of IO-Link specification 1.0. Connect the demonstrator to an IO-Link Master with a standard IO-Link cable. Evaluation KIT PCB 2 provides a standard M12 plug to connect the IO-Link line. All digital controls of the E are available at a plug connector. To supply high-power applications the IO-Link supply voltage is provided at this connector. The IO-Link supply voltage is looped through to this connector, too. 1/

3 Schematic Figure 1 shows the recommended application circuit. The used protection diodes are able to provide a protection in case of switching inductive loads up to (e.g. L=1.2H, R=60Ω) at the C/Q-line. 4 6 Layout The following layout shows a proposal of the protection circuit. Please note: No ground layer (or any other kind of plane) in the area of the protection networks The IO-Link -wire is directly routed to the 1 pin of the E device; connect the 1 directly to the exposed-die pad All other connections are related to the exposed-die pad of the IC Solder-jumper R1 Figure 2: Layout of EVALUATION KIT PCB 2 7 Configuration EVALUATION KIT PCB 2 can be configured by the solder-jumper R1 (see figure 2). MODE1 jumper R1 is set (default): VDD from internal regulator is connected to VIO Digital IO-lines are powered by internal regulator; don t provide a voltage at VIO-pin of B2B connector! Internal voltage regulator provides a voltage of V/20mA (see IC-datasheet for maximum ratings) MODE2 jumper R1 is displaced: VDD from internal regulator is disconnected from VIO Digital IO-lines are powered by VIO-pin of B2B connector; in this case you must provide a voltage at this pin! (see IC datasheet for maximum ratings) 4/
