2 System Description Siemens knows that one size doesn t always fit all. That's why we have a family of interlocking equipment that integrates to provide the optimal interlocking solution. Whether you need a large or small interlocking, whether you need the interlocking function adjacent to, or remote from, the trackside equipment, whether you want centralised or decentralised interlocking logic these are just a few of the possibilities that can be integrated into a system. Our options allow for optimisation of installed cost hardware, design, test and commissioning or whole-of-life cost, where maintenance and availability are critical elements that impact on the railway service. Interlocking hardware is just part of the family. Our interlocking support tools improve the efficiency of design, principles testing and commissioning. They include many design automation functions, and include utilities that log and replay events to assist Maintainers in locating and rectifying faults. WESTLOCK Components Central Interlocking Processor Every WESTLOCK has one CIP. Each CIP can talk to other CIPs (for very large systems), SSIs (future enhancement), WESTRACE and ERTMS. Trackside Interface Processor One TIF is required for each SSI data link. Technician's Workstation One TW is required for each WESTLOCK to monitor and log the system and to apply Technician's controls. WESTLOCK software See Application Support Tools. 3 Application Support Tools WESTLOCK s and WESTRACE s set of tools give maximum assistance to design, install, test, commission and maintain the interlocking systems. All tools operate on PCs under the Windows operating system. WESTLOCK WDE WDE (WESTLOCK Design Environment) is a suite of tools to design or import application logic, and to check, test and principles test the application from a user s desktop. WESTLOCK TW The TW (Technician s Workstation) is a suite of tools that connect to WESTLOCK s networks to log and graphically display every event and show the status of data link communication. Also used to apply and remove Technician's bars. Recorded data can be replayed graphically or textually for incident investigation. WESTRACE GCS (GCSS and ICS) GCS (Graphical Configuration System) is a toolset for: entering the application data (logic, assignment, and interfaces) for WESTRACE interlockings and object controllers develop WESTRACE signalling logic from the ground up; importing logic as functional templates for trackside architectures; importing earlier WESTRACE logic to re-use previously approved data. Supports loading the data into WESTRACE then checking the installed data no PROMs, download by Ethernet. Includes GCSS (Graphical Configuration Sub-System) and ICS (Installation Check System) software. geographic templates that are applied by junior staff to populate most of the logic entry for GCS. WESTRACE GSIM GSIM (Graphical Simulator) is used to check and principles test an interlocking system of any size. It supports testing with actual WESTCAD train control and MoviolaW. WESTRACE MoviolaW Monitors one or multiple WESTRACE interlockings, logging all data and errors, and displaying the state of the railway. Generates alarms based on WESTRACE faults and external failures. Replays logged data for incident investigation. Central Interlocking, Distributed IO A standalone or hot-standby WESTRACE interlocking works with multiple WESTRACE object controllers optimally placed for connection to the field equipment. They are typically connected by a single or redundant Ethernet network over optical fibre. Object controllers require a Processor Module (PM) to communicate with the network; object controllers near each other can share a PM. 6 WESTRACE Object Controllers WESTRACE object controllers are the flexible interface to the railway. They combine input and output modules, communications, and logic processing if required. 10-slot housing Example 2-Housing WESTRACE Object Controller Dual Ethernet to other PMs An object controller is a WESTRACE system containing: at least one PM (Processor Module; for Ethernet communications and local processing); any IO modules (located in 5-slot or 10-slot housings along the track). The housings are interconnected by single or dual SMBs (Serial Module Bus), and the object controller communicates with the main WESTRACE interlocking, or with WESTLOCK, by single or dual Ethernet. Why Use a WESTRACE Object Controller? Suits WESTRACE and WESTLOCK architectures. Minimises cable runs by placing the control or input interface near the trackside equipment. Supports diverse communication architectures for high availability. Optional module-by-module hot standby. Module failure does not impact the remainder of the interlocking. Hot-swap modules. Diverse redundant processing prevents fleeting outputs and common-mode errors. Configurable parameters such as pick and drop delays on inputs and lamp proving levels on lamp modules. Inputs and relay outputs can be connected in anti-parallel for pole change applications. Housings and Connections 6U object controller modules plug into rack-mounted motherboards. Large installations use up to 10 modules per 19 inch rack, and small systems can use just one or two modules in 9 inch racks that can be installed anywhere. All connections plug in at the rear of the housing and only require primary surge protection when connected to external equipment. IO Modules IO modules All WESTRACE IO modules are suitable for vital applications. Parallel Input Module PIMs detect a voltage that is provided from or switched by external equipment. Typical inputs are from track circuits, relays or point detection. Two inputs can be connected using reverse polarities to monitor a pole change circuit. They operate similarly to early VPIMs but have configurable delay-to-drop and delay-to-pick timers for each input. Relay Output Module ROMs are used to drive relays, contactors and similar loads. They operate similarly to early generation VROMs. Lamp Output Module LOMs are used to directly drive signals. They are optimised for both incandescent and LED signals. Current-proving levels are configurable to suit the signal. In and out of phase flashing aspects can be configured. Coded Input Module (future) CIMs offer an efficient method of multiple double-cut equivalent inputs from external contacts (point detection, track circuits or existing signalling). The module feeds coded data on one output and looks for the same code on the corresponding input. Cable faults or other connection faults cannot cause an incorrect high input. Signal Output Modules (future) SOMs typically drive a 4-aspect signal with associated route indicator and train protection. Communications Each WESTRACE object controller requires communication between the interlocking and its modules. Single or dual 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet connections to the interlocking carry all vital, non-vital and diagnostic data over standard IP (Internet Protocol) networks. Any local setup or diagnostics is by an additional, separate Ethernet connection. Simple Maintenance Failures are rare, but should they occur, simply hot-swap the module. No need to power-off as the remainder of the interlocking is unaffected. No need to configure the replacement module all configuration is stored in the PM. Update the PM-stored configuration by Ethernet transfer. Page 6 Datasheet 10A-33

7 Availability Ensure uninterrupted rail operation where it is critical WESTRACE object controllers support optional redundancy: Hot standby modules can be used in any critical situation. Mix and match hot standby, even within the one object controller. Otherwise, where the normal high reliability is sufficient, install single modules and avoid the costs of duplicate equipment. Redundant Ethernet networks for alternative paths and routing to the central WESTRACE interlocking. Redundant SMB (Serial Module Bus) between modules within a housing and between housings. Redundant power supplies keep the system running when one supply fails. In addition: Fault reporting is carried through to the Maintenance Centre from all object controllers. Hot-swap modules without affecting the remainder of the system. Manual module changeover button on each module.
