3 PURPOSE: Verify that the performance levels of the Elastimold 2701DLA Deadbreak to loadbreak adapter meet the following requirements: ANSI/IEEE Std , table 5, Sequence A. Tests include: 1. Corona Voltage Level (7.4) 2. AC Withstand (7.5.1) 3. DC Withstand (7.5.2) 4. Impulse Withstand (7.5.3) ANSI/IEEE Std , table 5, Sequence B. Tests include: 1. Accelerated Sealing Life Test (7.12) AC Withstand and Impulse tests with 5.5 pound weight. AC Withstand hot after 10 on/off current cycles. ANSI/IEEE std Off-axis Operation (7.10.2). CORONA AND WITHSTAND TEST SET-UP: The 2701DLA was assembled onto a K180C4 bushing using the hold down bail ( BG) per instruction sheet IS-1243 (see Fig 2). A 276LR elbow was installed on a 25kV 1/0 aluminum cable with a spade connector. The opposite end of the cable was terminated with a 35MSC stress cone and (10) sheds. See figure 3. TESTING PROCEDURE: Corona Voltage Level (IEEE Std 386 para 7.4) This test is to verify that the corona voltage level of the test specimen is above 19kV. See figure 4. The test procedure consisted of raising the applied voltage to 23kV or until corona initiated and then lowering the voltage until corona, if present, extinguished. The test equipment used for this test had a sensitivity of three picocoulombs. Ten assemblies were subjected to this test. RESULTS: Ten assemblies had a Corona Extinction Voltage (CEV) in excess of 19kV. (Corona tests are performed on 100% of Elastimold premolded connectors. Each must have a Corona Extinction Voltage (CEV) of 19kV or higher for any discharge of three picocoulombs or greater.) AC Voltage Withstand (IEEE Std 386 para 7.5.1) This test is to verify that the insulation of the test specimen will withstand 40kV for one minute. See figure 4. The test voltage was raised from zero to 40kV in 30 seconds or less. The assembly must withstand this applied voltage for one minute without flashover or puncture. RESULTS: Ten assemblies passed the design AC withstand voltage test. (Elastimold standard production practice includes 100% dielectric strength verification using appropriate impulse or AC withstand voltage.) Page 3 of 12

4 DC Voltage Withstand (IEEE Std 386 para 7.5.2) This test is to verify that the insulation of the test specimen will withstand 78kV DC for 15 minutes. See figure 5. The test voltage was of negative polarity (negative terminal connected to the center conductor of the test specimen) and was raised from zero to 78kv in 30 seconds or less. The assembly must withstand this applied voltage for 15 minutes without flashover or puncture. Ten assemblies were subjected to this test. RESULTS: Ten assemblies passed the design DC withstand voltage test. Impulse Voltage Withstand (IEEE Std 386 para 7.5.3) This test is to verify that the insulation of the test specimen will withstand a 125kV impulse (three shots at each polarity). See figure 6. The test voltage was a 1.2 x 50 micro-second wave having a crest value of 125kV. Ten assemblies were subjected to this test. RESULTS: Ten assemblies passed the design impulse withstand voltage test. (Elastimold standard production practice includes 100% dielectric strength verification using appropriate impulse or AC withstand voltage.) CONCLUSION: All 10 parts passed the requirements of IEEE Table 5, Sequence A for 25kV class. ACCELERATED SEALING LIFE TEST Accelerated Sealing Life Test per IEEE Std. 386, Sec The purpose of this test is to demonstrate that the connector can maintain a long-term seal at all interfaces to prevent the entrance of moisture. The connector assemblies were oven aged for three weeks, operated once, subjected to 50 cycles, each cycle consists of: heating by current until control reached 90 C for four hours, de-energized and within three minutes submerged in 25 C ± 10 C conductive water to a depth of one foot). After 50 cycles the cable assembly must withstand the design impulse test per IEEE Std 386, Sec Four assemblies were subjected to this test. RESULTS: Four assemblies passed the design Accelerated Sealing Life Test. CONCLUSION: All 4 parts passed the requirements of IEEE Table 5, Sequence B for Accelerated Sealing Life Test for 25kV class. 5 AC Withstand and Impulse tests with 5.5 pound weight The purpose of this test is to demonstrate the 2701DLA can pass the 40kV AC Withstand for one minute and 125kV BIL three + and three - with a 5.5 pound weight hanging from the pulling eye of the 273DRG. This weight is to simulate the approximate weight of the cable. The same parts were tested four times over two days. Each day the assemblies were tested at 7:00AM and 3:00PM. See Fig 7. RESULTS: The assembly passed the multiple 40kV AC withstand tests and the 125kV BIL impulse tests. CONCLUSION: The part passed the requirements as stated above. AC Withstand hot tests with 4 pound weight after 10 cycles The purpose of this test is to demonstrate the 2701DLA will pass the 40kV AC Withstand test after 10 current cycles, 6 hours on and 6 hours off with current sufficient to raise the conductor (1/0 AL) to 90 C. Four pound weights were attached to the pulling eyes of the elbows to represent the approximate weight of the cable. Four parts were subjected to this test. See Fig 8. RESULTS: All four parts passed the 40kV AC Withstand test for one minute. CONCLUSION: The part passed the requirements as stated above. Thermal test with off-axes operation (IEEE Std 386 para ) The purpose of this test is to demonstrate that deadbreak 200 A connection can carry rated load current after being subjected to an offaxis operating force. Four parts were subjected to this test. See fig 9. This test was performed on the 2701DLA only to show that the deadbreak interface passes all voltage classes through 25kV. RESULTS: The temperature at the compression lug and midpoint of the 2701DLA did not exceed the control temperature. CONCLUSION: The four part passed the requirements of IEEE Std-2006 para Fig 1 Page 5 of 12
