TECH NOTE PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All Converge Pro Products except the TH20 and VH20 CLEARONE DOCUMENT (REVISION 1.0) May 2012 Using the ClockAudio CS 2S-RF with the Converge Pro OVERVIEW This Tech Note applies to the following Converge Pro systems using the ClockAudio CS 2S-RF microphone system: T 880T SR TA SR1212A 8i The ClockAudio CS 2S-RF is a dual-element boundary layer microphone with a half cardioid polar pattern. The microphone is fitted with an electronic capacitive touch sensitive switch designed to be used for remote switching giving status red or green to identify when the microphone is live. This document gives instructions on how to wire the CS 2S-RF to the Converge Pro and the necessary programming within the Converge Pro to use the CS 2S-RF. The CS 2S-RF requires 12 VDC to light the LED array, but the voltage supply of the Converge Pro provides only 3.3 VDC. Because the Converge Pro does not supply the required voltage, an external power supply is required. This document assumes the reader has knowledge of programming with ClearOne Console. If further assistance is needed please refer to the Converge Pro user manual or available technical documents in the Resources section of the ClearOne website at or call ClearOne Technical Support at OPERATION OF THE CLOCKAUDIO CS 2S-RF TOUCH SWITCH The ClockAudio CS 2S-RF consists of a touch switch which supplies a logic low and two status pins the control an array of 10 red and 10 green LED s. Depending on whether the ClockAudio CS 2S-RF green wire or pink wire is grounded determines whether the array will illuminate green or red. When ground is provided for the red LED the ground for the green LED is lifted and vise versa. This ensures the array does not illuminate both red and green at the same time. If all eight microphone channels on the Converge Pro are to be connected with their own ClockAudio CS 2S-RF, a total of 4 control pins and 8 switchable grounds, or status pins are required. CONVERGE PRO CONFIGURATION EQUIPMENT LIST Converge Pro Clock Audio CS 2S-RF External 12 Volt DC Power Supply DB25 Male Connector Wire (22 Gauge Recommended)
WIRING The wiring requirements are shown below. Image 1. Clock Audio Connections SWITCH WIRE COLOR Red Yellow Black Green Pink FUNCTION + 12 VDC Open Collector Switch (Logic LOW when switch pressed) Ground Grounded provides Green LED illumination Grounded provides Red LED illumination AUDIO WIRE COLOR FUNCTION Red Microphone A Audio + Black Microphone A Audio - Yellow Microphone B Audio + White (gray in Image 1 above) Microphone B Audio - Green Common for both microphones
FUNCTION When the touch switch on the ClockAudio CS 2S-RF is pressed a contact closure is sent to the Converge Pro control pin. The Converge Pro mutes the microphone channel and sends out a Mute On response. With the Mute On response, the first status pin is pulled to ground and the second status pin releases so the green LED s turn on and the red LED s turn off. When the touch switch is pressed again on the ClockAudio CS 2S-RF, a contact closure is sent to the Converge Pro control pin. The Converge Pro toggles the mute state of the microphone channel, un-muting the channel, sending out a Mute Off response. With the Mute Off response the first status pin is released and the second status pin is pulled to ground so the green LED s turn off and the red LED s turn on. The audio conductors are connected to phoenix connectors supplied with the Converge Pro. Phantom power within the Converge Pro for the microphone channels must be on. Set the course gain to 50 and the fine gain to -1 db. These gain settings might need adjusting depending on the application and talker to microphone distance. See the application note, Optimizing Gain Structure in the Resources section of the ClearOne website at for techniques on setup up the proper gain within the Converge Pro. CONVERGE CONSOLE PROGRAMMING FOR TOUCH SWITCH OPERATION Macro Programming The ClockAudio CS 2S-RF contains two microphones and one touchpad switch. Because of this, when the touchpad switch is pressed a mute control for both microphone channels on the Converge Pro needs to occur. A macro is required to control the mute on multiple channels with the Converge Pro. The macro will contain mute commands for the two individual microphone channels. To create a macro, click on the Macro button located on the button bar at the top of Converge Console. The Converge Pro can be programmed for three different modes of operation when used with the touchpad switch: Push to Talk (PPT), Push to Mute (PTM), and Latching or toggle. PPT and PTM modes require two macros; one macro to mute and another to un-mute the microphones channels. Latching mode requires only one macro to toggle the mute on the microphone channels. To build a macro, see Image 2 with the steps identified on the following page: To build a macro: Image Clicking on the Change Name button, give the macro a unique name, and press the OK button in the Macro Name dialog box. 2. In the Command Editor select the appropriate Unit Type and DID. If the mouse is placed over the Type or DID fields a text tip will be displayed describing the options available. Because the touchpad switch is wired to the Converge Pro unit being programmed, the Unit Type and DID can be set to. (dot). 3. Select the MUTE command and the appropriate channel. The channel is one of the two microphone channels that are to be controlled by the touchpad switch.
4. Select the Group M for microphone. 5. For PTT or PTM modes select a Mode of 1, for mute, or 0, for un-mute. With the PTT and PTM modes a second macro will be built where the mute command contains the opposite mode of the first macro. For the Latching mode, select a Mode of Click on the Add button to add the command to the macro. Using the Command Editor repeat this process and build a command for the second microphone channel to be controlled by the touchpad switch. 7. Press the Save button to save the macro. Control Port Programming After the macro(s) have been created, Control Port A needs to be programmed so the touchpad switch controls the Converge Pro and illuminates the LED s. To access Control Port, click on the Control button located on the bar at the top of Converge Console. One control pin and two status pins are required for each touchpad switch. The control pin will turn on and off the mute and the status pins will control the red and green LED s on the touchpad switch. The programming of the Control Pins differs between the three modes: PTT Mode PTM Mode Latching Mode The Status Pin programming is the same for all three Control Pin modes. To program the Control Port, see Image 3, below, with the steps for each mode identified afterward on the following pages: PTT Mode Image 3. With PTT mode, the user will press and hold the touchpad switch while they are talking. While pressing the touchpad switch, the two microphone channels associated with the ClockAudio CS 2S-RF on the Converge Pro will un-mute. When the touchpad switch is released, the two microphone channels will mute. Two macros are required for PTT mode. The first macro will un-mute the two microphone channels and the second macro will mute the two microphone channels. (See the section Macro Programming for assistance in creating these macros.)
To program the Control Port for PTT Mode, see Image 3, above, with the steps identified below: 1. In the Control Port Builder, select Port A and the desired control pin.
