2 INTRODUCTION Thank you for purchasing this UFO Illuminator. Please read these instructions fully before connecting your unit to the electrical supply, and keep them for future reference. The UFO Vega range of illuminators are suitable for use with either glass or PMMA fiber-optic harnesses. The Vega is powered by a VAC remote desktop power supply unit. The Vega is available in two color temperatures, 3000 K and 4000 K as denoted on the rear of the illuminator. IMPORTANT THIS PRODUCT MUST BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE INSTALLATION CODE BY A PERSON FAMILIAR WITH THE CONSTRUCTION AND OPERATION OF THE PRODUCT AND THE HAZARDS INVOLVED. 2 Vega Illuminator Range

3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS POWER SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS The LED Illuminator is powered from a multifunction, multi-voltage, desk top Power Supply Unit. Remove the 24V Desk Top PSU from its box. This PSU is an IEC input device catering for UK, European and USA mains supplies using the relevant power cord. UFO VEGA M UFO VEGA DMX UFO VEGA 0-10V Universal Fiber Optics 3

4 CONNECTION VEGA M There are 2 connections required the fiber port and the mains supply cable. The fiber port should be connected first. Connect and secure the fiber optic connector into the aluminium collar and secure using the M5 locking screw. Connect the IEC power cord into the Desk Top PSU and plug the mains plug into the electrical supply socket. Switch on power the led Indicator will illuminate and the illuminator is ready for use. If no light is produced consult the TROUBLESHOOTING section. NOTE: THESE LIGHT SOURCES ARE NOT MAINS DIMMABLE NORMAL OPERATION VEGA M Under normal operation the VEGA M Illuminator can be dimmed manually using the dimmer control on the rear of the unit. 4 Vega Illuminator Range

5 CONNECTION VEGA DMX There are 3 connections required the fiber port, the mains supply cable and the DMX control cable. The fiber port should be connected first. Connect and secure the fiber optic connector into the aluminium collar and secure using the M5 locking screw. Connect the IEC power cord into the Desk Top PSU and plug the mains plug into the electrical supply socket. Switch on power the led Indicator will illuminate and the illuminator is ready for use. If no light is produced consult the TROUBLESHOOTING section. NOTE: THESE LIGHT SOURCES ARE NOT MAINS DIMMABLE Connect up the DMX control cables to the Mini-XLR sockets on the rear of the Illuminator. The recommended plug for these sockets is Multicomp SVP556-TA. The pin out details for the plugs are shown below. Either socket may be used as DMX in or DMX out. 6 DMX OPERATION The DMX Illuminators can be dimmed remotely (single Channel SEE TABLE BELOW) and can be addressed manually Single Channel Value Description LED Off LED Brightest Unless the address is specified on the Purchase Order, all Illuminators will be defaulted to Address 001. Connect the DMX controller to either of the Mini XLR sockets, and the Illuminator can now be dimmed. Additional Slave (same address) DMX Illuminators can be linked together. To revert a DMX illuminator to non DMX control or manual operation, disconnect the illuminator from the mains supply, loosen the top screws and remove the top cover. Switch dip switch 10 to on, as shown below. Dip switch 10 - set to on for manual operation. Note: to revert a DMX illuminator to manual operation a link wire must also be fitted on the PCB as shown opposite. 6 Vega Illuminator Range

7 DMX OPERATION (continued) To access the PCB terminals, loosen the 2 screws underneath the illuminator which fix the PCB bracket to the base. Carefully lift out the PCB bracket and check that there is a wire link fitted between 10V and DM as shown. Manual operation will not function without the link. If no link is present, fit a suitable wire and refit the PCB bracket in the base. SETTING THE DMX ADDRESS Disconnect the illuminator from the mains supply. Loosen the four screws and remove the top cover of the unit. The DMX address can be manually set using switches 1 to 9 on the 10 way DIP switch inside the unit as shown below. Note: for DMX control operation to work, Dip switch 10 must be in the off position. Universal Fiber Optics 7

12 TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Probable Causes Remedy Unit is dead no light output and LED power indicator on PSU is not illuminated Mains supply off Loose mains plugs Plug fuse blown (UK) Check supply & reinstate Check plugs Check fuse. Illuminator wil default to full bright. Repair DMX controller or cabling. Replace Illuminator Check the address set on unit matches the address set on the controller Refer to manual diagram for correct wiring termination. Carry out continuity check Swap DMX cable for known good cable Remove PCB and fit link as detailed on page 7 of this manual Please complete troubleshooting procedures before returning unit to us for further investigation. 12 Vega Illuminator Range

13 ADDITIONAL TROUBLESHOOTING (0-10V MODELS ONLY) Problem Probable Causes Remedy 0-10V Version unit is dead - no light output - but LED indicator on illuminator is illuminated. No 0-10V dimming to unit (0V= LED Off) 0-10V cable fault Controller fault Refer to manual diagram for correct termination. Carry out continuity check. Carry out voltage / polarity check Carry out voltage / polarity check at controller. Repair / replace as necessary 0-10V LED PCB failure Replace 0-10V PCB No 0-10V signal present Controller off or failed 0-10V cable faulty Check controller. Ensure 0-10V signal present Carry out voltage and polarity check on mini XLR plug.
