3 Scope: This manaul is related to the RMS-Converter Firmware Version V1.2. The small digit represents small changes, bug fixes etc. that do not influence main functions of the device. 1 Overview 1.1 RMS system overview The Rotronic Monitoring System RMS is a network of various devices and RMS server software. The software represents the core piece of the whole RMS. It collects measuring and system data of the devices and stores it into the database. The single devices work as input modules (datalogger) and output moduls (displays, analog outputs, switching outputs. The user can monitor this measuring- and system data by PC, laptop or smart mobiles everywhere and every time. Figure 1: Schematic diagram of the RMS 2016 ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 3 of 39
4 1.2 RMS Converter The aim of the RMS Converter is to provide a simple integration of Rotronic devices and networks of earlier generation into the RMS. The RMS Converter acts as a adaptation between these devices an the RMS - by translation of the propriatary device protocolls to the RMS and back. By this way, measuring- and system are exchanged between devices and RMS. In case of communication interruption between RMS Converter and server software, the converter loggs the collected data into the internal memory (for max. 1 week). As far as the connection is completed again, the data will be synchronized between converter and server. In this manner data loss will be avoided. Beside the Rotronic device integration, the RMS Converter provides the following main function: o Direct integration of digital OEM devices into the RMS o Upgradeable for custom-built software- or device function o FW Update 1.3 Power Supply The RMS Converter is power supplied by a switching power supply 5VDC. It is part of the supplied package. 1.4 Interface The communication of the RMS Converter run via LAN and needs no further interface or plug ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 4 of 39

6 3 Installation To install the RMS Converter, it is necessary to connect the LAN port to the ethernet network and energize it with the power supply. 3.1 Default configuration The RMS Converter is default configured with DHCP active. That means that the RMS Converter gets the IP-address from the DHCP-Server automatically. Fix IP address can be set by a manual configuration via the web browser or via the RMS CONFIG Software see following chapter. 3.2 Configuration via web interface To configure the RMS Converter please type into the address bar of the web browser. Instead of "XXXXXXXX" please use the serial number (see the bottom side of the RMS Converter) Figure 3: Configuration of the RMS Converter via web interface As far as the RMS Converter is configured with a fix IP address, the device can be accessed typing into the web browser (in the expample of Fig. 3 -> ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 6 of 39
7 3.3 Configuration via RMS CONFIG Software The RMS Converter can also be configured by the RMS CONFIG Software. The RMS CONFIG is a configuration software tool that can be downloaded at For configuration please follow the figures below. Settings Figure 9: Service path In case of local server the WebService path must be adapted to the local settings of the local server. See user manual E-IM-RMS-WEB If the configuration is finished, the RMS Converter can be integrated into the RMS server software for further information please see the manual E-SM-RMS-WEB. For a successful integration of the RMS Converter into the RMS System, the port 80 of the network must be opened. The RMS Converter must be able to send data to the RMS server (local or cloud) Case of DHCP active: A DHCP server must supply an IP address automatically. Case of Fix IP: If no DHCP server is used, a fixed IP address can be set for the RMS Converter by the network administrator manually ROTRONIC AG Bassersdorf Switzerland Page 9 of 39
