2 ANA-7711 GS.fm Page 1 Thursday, April 24, :53 AM This Getting Started Guide describes how to install the ANA-7711C/F NAC adapter and how to install the driver for Red Hat version 8.0 and Red Hat version 8.0 SMP (symmetric multiprocessor). You can find more detailed information about your adapter in the Installation Guide on the CD. 3 ANA-7711 GS.fm Page 2 Thursday, April 24, :53 AM System Requirements Intel Pentium or equivalent computer At least 128 MB of RAM An available 3.3-V keyed PCI slot CD-ROM drive Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) copper (CAT 5 or CAT 6) or SC fiber cable Note: The cable is not included in the kit. To order cables for your NAC, see the Got Cables? flyer in the kit or visit Adaptec s online store at or call /100 Mbps full-duplex connection to the network. Installing the ANA-7711C/F NAC To install the NAC in an available 3.3-V keyed PCI slot: 1 Turn off the power to the computer and disconnect the power cord. 2 Before handling the board, discharge any static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object such as the exposed metal parts on the back of your computer. 3 Remove the cover from the computer case. If necessary, refer to the instructions in your computer documentation. 2

4 ANA-7711 GS.fm Page 3 Thursday, April 24, :53 AM 4 Locate an unused and unobstructed 3.3-V keyed, 64-bit or 32-bit PCI expansion slot and remove the expansion slot cover. Save the slot cover screw for use in the next step. Slot cover screw Expansion slot cover 32-bit PCI slot 64-bit PCI slots 5 Insert the adapter in the 3.3-V keyed PCI expansion slot. Press the board firmly into the slot until it clicks into place. Replace the slot cover screw. 6 Close the computer cabinet and reattach the power cord. Next, install the NAC driver for your operating system. 3

5 ANA-7711 GS.fm Page 4 Thursday, April 24, :53 AM Installing the Driver Use the following instructions to install the driver using Red Hat s Network Configuration Graphical User Interface (GUI) on a Red Hat 8.0 single processor Intel Pentium system or on a Red Hat 8.0 SMP (symmetric multiprocessor) Intel Pentium system. Note: To install the driver manually, see the instructions included in the README file on the installation CD. 1 Login to the Red Hat desktop as root. 2 Add the ANA-7711 NAC to the list of configurable adapters: a Mount the NAC installation CD and go the appropriate directory on the CD. Select install-ana7711 from either the RedHat8.0 single processor directory, or the RedHat8.0.SMP directory. b Run the install-ana7711 script from a terminal window, enter:./install-ana Launch Red Hat s Network Configuration GUI. From the Main Menu, point to System Settings and click Network. Alternatively, open a terminal window and enter neat. 4

6 ANA-7711 GS.fm Page 5 Thursday, April 24, :53 AM The Devices tab in the Network Configuration window is displayed. Note the ethernet device numbers listed in the Device column. Later, you will need to select the next unused number to identify your NAC. 4 Click Add. 5

9 ANA-7711 GS.fm Page 8 Thursday, April 24, :53 AM The Select Ethernet Adapter is displayed. 7 Select Adaptec ANA-7711 Network Accelerator Card (NAC) from the Adapter drop down list, and select the next unused eth device number for the NAC from the Device drop down list and click Forward. You need to select Ethernet device numbers in sequence. 8

10 ANA-7711 GS.fm Page 9 Thursday, April 24, :53 AM The Configure Network Settings window is displayed. 8 Click Automatically obtain IP address settings with: or Statically set IP addresses: as appropriate. You can automatically obtain IP Address settings using dhcp. If you choose to enter static addresses, enter the NAC IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway Address. 9 Click Forward and then click Apply. 10 Click Close and then save your changes. 11 Reboot for the changes to take effect. 9
