2 Cyber crime in 2017 Community is at (high) risk of cyber/digital related or enabled crime SME s are not suitably prepared to defend against cyber attacks Cost of digital crime to UK economy is B s and growing Escalating cyber threat to millions of individual victims, many thousands of SME and corporate victims Cyber arms race is an enduring challenge and the accelerating pace of technology and criminal capability currently outpaces the UK s collective policing response Increasing reach of the digital criminal Increasing digital complexity and new and emerging technologies

4 Digital and Cyber Capability in UK Policing UK policing is not prepared and able to deal with the changing profile of crime and the wide range and growing digital crime being committed today There is a (massive) skills gap: Police forces do not have suitably trained investigators Police forces cannot afford to hire industry specialists To train Police Officers to a suitable standard takes too long for the immediate problem and we would lose these officers to industry
