Certified reliability now and in 50 years If stored correctly, Blu-ray Discs are ideally suited for the long-term archival of data. The German technical supervision association TÜV has certified a lifespan of at least 50 years for the discs, while laboratory tests show that even a period of 100 years is possible. What other medium can make such claims? In addition, the drives are standardised and backwards-compatible, enabling reading of 20-year-old CDs or DVDs in the drives without any errors.
