6 Lessons learned RIF-CS copes well with structured, unstructured, and incomplete information. We needed to expand the controlled vocabularies. RIF-CS does not record the purpose of links. Having IDs for entities makes ingest more robust. Need more information to do things properly, e.g. query CRIS for grant numbers. Questions How should we handle updates, merges, updates of merged records, deletions? Do we need to support multiple date types, or just pick one? Should we get everything from harvested data, or use per-source boilerplate values?

8 Phase 2 to-do list Settle on internal metadata standard: RIF-CS, DataCite, or another. Agree a limited set of source metadata standards to support. Agree a limited set of metadata standards to support for onward syndication. Develop crosswalks (CERIF-to-RIF-CS in progress... ) and test them. Agree how record deletions will be handled. Agree how to deal with records for the same entity available from multiple sources. Document how metadata is handled: where crosswalks expect to see certain information, etc.
