To continue with the installation, select the I accept the terms in the License Agreement option; then, click Next. 4. Choose the type of installation to perform. Select one of the following options: Evaluation installation (will expire in 15 days). Select this option to install an evaluation version of the driver. Click Next to continue with the installation. Skip to Step 6 on page 32. OEM or Licensed installation. Select this option if you have purchased a licensed version of one or multiple drivers. Click Next and continue with the next step to enter your product licensing information. 5. The Product Registration window appears. Type the serial number that was provided by Progress DataDirect. Then, type the IPE key (also known as the Control Number) that was provided for licensing purposes by Progress DataDirect in the IPE Key field, and click the Add button. The licensed driver appears in the Products with Valid Licenses list box. Click Next to continue with the installation. To delete the driver from the Products with Valid Licenses list box, select the driver and click the Delete button. The driver is removed from the list box. Click Cancel to end the installation. 6. In the Where Would You Like to Install? field, type the path, including the drive letter on Windows machines, of the product installation directory or click the Choose (...) button to browse to and select an installation directory. The default value for the installation directory is C:\Program Files\Progress\DataDirect\Connect_for_JDBC_51. Verify that you have entered (or selected) the correct installation directory. 32

Installing the Product Click Next to continue. Note: If you specify a directory that contains a previous installation of the driver, a warning message appears allowing you to overwrite your existing installation or specify a different installation directory. 7. A window appears allowing you to confirm your installation options. Click Previous to revise your choices, or click Install to continue with the installation. When you click Install, the drivers you selected are installed. 8. A window appears asking you if you want to run the Performance Wizard. Select the No option to bypass the Wizard. Important: Failing to bypass the Wizard when creating the response file causes the Wizard to appear when the silent installation is performed. 9. Click Done to exit the installer. The response file is created in the directory you specified in Step 1 on page 31. Refer to the installation log file for a record of any problems that may have occurred during the installation. See Installation Log File on page 34 for details. See Performing the Silent Installation on page 34 for instructions on running the response file. Creating a Response File Using a Text Editor Using a text editor, you can create a response file with the following contents: ## SERIALNUMBER=xxxxxxx KEYLIST=yyyyyyy USER_INSTALL_DIR=install_dir where: xxxxxxx yyyyyyy is your product serial number. is your IPE key (also known as the Control Number). If specifying multiple keys, separate them using a space, for example, KEYLIST= install_dir is your product installation directory. Note: If coding a path on Windows to an installation directory using the Universal Naming Convention (UNC), you must escape the double backslash (\\) and the single backslash with a Java escape character. For example: \\\\server1\\progress\\datadirect\\connect_for_jdbc_51. See Performing the Silent Installation on page 34 for instructions on running the response file. 33

Chapter 2: Installing DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC Windows Example: ## SERIALNUMBER= KEYLIST=xxxkey1 xxxkey2 xxxkey3 USER_INSTALL_DIR==\\Program Files\Progress\DataDirect\Connect_for_JDBC_51 UNIX/Linux Example: ## SERIALNUMBER= KEYLIST=xxxkey1,xxxkey2,xxxkey3 USER_INSTALL_DIR==/opt/Progress/DataDirect/Connect_for_JDBC_51 Performing the Silent Installation 1. At a command prompt, change to the directory containing the PROGRESS_DATADIRECT_CONNECT_JDBC_5.1.4.jar file. 2. Type the command: java -jar PROGRESS_DATADIRECT_CONNECT_JDBC_5.1.4.jar -f response_file -i silent where response_file is the path and file name of the response file created in Creating the Response File Using the Installer on page 31. You can specify an absolute or relative path. If the path is not specified, the silent installation looks for the response file in the current working directory. Windows Example: This example performs a silent installation by running a response file named installer.properties in the C:\temp directory. java -jar PROGRESS_DATADIRECT_CONNECT_JDBC_5.1.4.jar -f C:\temp\installer.properties -i silent UNIX/Linux Example: This example performs a silent installation by running a response file named installer.properties in the /install directory, which is relative to the current working directory. java -jar PROGRESS_DATADIRECT_CONNECT_JDBC_5.1.4.jar -f./install/installer.properties -i silent 3. The installation proceeds without any further user intervention or notification. Refer to the installation log file for a record of any problems that may have occurred during the installation. See Installation Log File on page 34 for details. Installation Log File If the installer successfully creates the product installation directory, the installer writes a log file named Progress_DataDirect_Connect_(R)_and_Connect_XE_for_JDBC_5.1_SP4_InstallLog.log to the following directory: Windows: install_dir\uninstallerdata\logs 34

Upgrading an Evaluation Installation to a Licensed Installation UNIX/Linux : install_dir/uninstallerdata/logs Examine the log file for a record of any problems that may have occurred during the installation. If a product installation fails completely, the installer does not create the product installation directory and writes a file named Progress_DataDirect_Connect_(R)_and_Connect_XE_for_JDBC_5.1_SP4_InstallFailed.txt in the machine s default temporary directory. If you need help interpreting the contents of these files, contact Progress DataDirect customer support. Upgrading an Evaluation Installation to a Licensed Installation After an evaluation installation, you may want to upgrade your evaluation installation to a licensed installation. To upgrade, see Installing the Product on page 28 and follow the procedure for installation. When asked to choose an installation type, select the OEM or Licensed installation option. When asked to enter your product license information, add the IPE key (also known as the Control Number) and serial number that were provided by Progress DataDirect. Testing the Drivers To get started using the drivers and for complete information about establishing connections and testing the drivers, refer to the DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC User s Guide and DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC Reference. Uninstalling To uninstall from a Windows machine, use the Windows Add or Remove Programs option. To uninstall from a non-windows machine or after using the Java installer on a Windows machine, delete the entire installation directory. Using the Performance Tuning Wizard The Performance Tuning Wizard leads you step-by-step through a series of questions about your application. Based on your answers, the Wizard provides the optimal settings for performance-related connection properties. The Wizard runs as an applet within a browser window. To use the Wizard, your browser must be configured to run applets. Refer to your browser s documentation for information on configuring your browser. 35

Chapter 2: Installing DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC Starting the Wizard You can start the Wizard by launching the following file from your browser, where install_dir is your installation directory: install_dir/wizards/index.html Note: Security features set in your browser can prevent the Performance Wizard from launching. A security warning message is displayed. Often, the warning message provides instructions for unblocking the Performance Wizard for the current session. To allow the Performance Wizard to launch without encountering a security warning message, the security settings in your browser can be modified. Check with your system administrator before disabling any security features. 36

Using the Performance Tuning Wizard Tuning Performance Using the Wizard After you start the Wizard, a Welcome window appears. Click Start to start the process and select a driver. The following figure shows an example of one of the questions you are asked to answer for the DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC Oracle driver. Figure 1: DataDirect Connect for JDBC Performance Tuning Wizard 37

Chapter 2: Installing DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC When you have answered all questions for a driver, results are displayed as shown in the following figure. You can copy the results to use in your application or in a data source configuration tool. In addition, you can copy and paste the results into a text file for reference. Figure 2: DataDirect Connect for JDBC Performance Tuning Wizard Results Refer to the appropriate driver chapters in the DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC User s Guide for information about connection properties for the drivers. Creating DB2 Packages In most cases, you do not need to create DB2 packages because the DB2 driver automatically creates them the first time it connects to the database. If, for some reason, you need to explicitly create them, you can create them in any of the following ways: Using the DataDirect DB2 Package Manager, a Java graphical tool that makes it easy for you to create, drop, and replace DB2 packages. Using certain driver connection properties specified in a connection URL or data source. 38

Using the Drivers with Application Servers Running the appropriate DB2 package creation list file for your operating system on the database server. On z/os and i only, copy the packages that are installed with the DB2 driver. Refer to the DataDirect Connect Series for JDBC User s Guide for instructions on creating DB2 packages. Using the Drivers with Application Servers Refer to the Progress Knowledge Base for technical articles about using the drivers with various application servers, such as JBoss, Apache Tomcat, Oracle/BEA WebLogic, and Sun Java System Application Server 6. Using the Drivers with Hibernate For information about using the drivers with Hibernate, refer to the following Web pages: Using DataDirect JDBC Drivers with Hibernate How to Configure DataDirect with Hibernate For More Information We recommend that you read the README text file that accompanies the product for current information regarding the release. You can find the latest README text file on the Progress DataDirect Web site. 6 Also known as Sun GlassFish Enterprise Server. 39
