3 Unification Terminology This document makes the terminology of the various unification features easily available to NetWeaver portal users who are also stakeholders of these technologies. Its purpose is twofold: to enable a standard of communication about unification, whether in s, CSN messages, or SAP notes, and to enhance understanding of the features themselves. The following table contains a list of those terms, in alphabetical order, including their glossary definitions, as they appear in the SAPterm, the official SAP terminology database. Term autocomplete automatic relation autocomplete service Autocomplete Service Configuration Editor bridge object business object Business Object Editor Business Object Importer business object operation valid alt. operation Glossary Entry The automatic completion of a relationship between two business objects that have no direct relation between any of their properties. This requires the use of intermediary, auxiliary objects that relate one to the other, from the source to the target object. A relationship created by the NetWeaver portal autocomplete service, between two business objects that do not share a common primary/foreign key. Business object relations are completed using bridge objects. The subservice of the portal unification relation resolving service, which is responsible for finding relationships between business objects, when no foreign key or manually created relation exists. An interface, belonging to the portal service configuration framework, that allows the portal administrator to modify the configuration of the autocomplete sub-service of the relation resolving service. These services are part of the portal unification infrastructure. A business object used to complete a relationship between source and target business objects, which do not share a common primary/foreign key. One or more bridge objects may be used in automatic, as well as manual relations. An object that is used to model a business process. A business object is a semantic entity, which represents the smallest logical unit to take part in a business scenario. An editor that displays the business object properties and enables the creation and editing of business object operations. A utility for importing the metadata of back-end system business objects to the Portal Content Directory (PCD) for the use of the portal content administrator during design time. A link associated to a business object (typically displayed in a context menu) that launches a related iview.
4 connector framework designated relation Distributed Query Engine (DQE) DQE Property Editor DQE Session Manager Drag&Relate foreign key relation function iview implementing iview valid alt. OBN target iview, target iview A NetWeaver portal set of components that provides the infrastructure for Web applications to create and use platformindependent connectivity providers, or connectors, to back-end applications. These connectors comply with the Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) standard and its J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA 1.0) specifications. A manual relation defined between two business objects, which is valid only in the context of Object-Based Navigation. The validity of the relation is only for a specific operation implemented by a specific iview or Page. A service of the NetWeaver portal responsible for handling queries to back-end systems. The DQE (abbr.) is capable of dividing queries and distributing the parts to multiple systems and returning one result set. A NetWeaver portal utility for configuring property values related to the performance of the Distributed Query Engine. A NetWeaver portal utility that displays sessions running on the Distributed Query Engine, as well as the specific queries running in these sessions. It permits the portal administrator to view the details of any specific session and, if needed, to terminate a session, or its constituent queries. A navigational metaphor, and the technology behind it, that enables data-related navigation actions within one, or across multiple, information sources, whether sites on the World Wide Web or back-end applications. For example, by selecting a product ID link in an iview based on the business object Products, and by dragging it onto another business object-based iview (for example, Customers), a query is launched and data returned (such as, a list of the all customers who ordered the specific product). A direct relationship between two business objects, comprising a shared primary/foreign key, that is, both objects have at least one common attribute. Foreign key relations are defined in the back-end application. An iview based on a predefined function call, which uses the NetWeaver portal connector framework to retrieve data from a back-end application. The specific function nomenclature may vary according to the application (for example, "stored procedure" for JDBC, RFC for ERP). The portal iview that presents relevant business information, according to the user role, and as defined by a business object operation. The implementation of an operation may also be performed by a portal page.
5 main object manual relation Metadata Loader object-based navigation Object-Based Navigation Editor OBN source iview valid alt source iview priority query iview relation resolving service Relationship Editor relationship matrix relation path A business object from a back-end system, such as a database table or an SAP business object, on which a business-related iview may be based, and for which related business data is returned during portal navigation at runtime. A relationship between two business objects (a source and a target), created as a result of user manipulation in the Single Relation Editor, using additional business objects, whose attributes enable them to serve as bridges between the source and target. An SAP Enterprise Portal utility that allows a portal administrator to preload object model or table metadata into a cache of the Distributed Query Engine service. A navigation technology driven by operations associated with business objects. Typically, the operation is chosen from the business object context menu, thereby launching the iview associated with the specific business object operation. One of the portal object editors accessed from the context menu of an iview or Page, or from the Edit drop-down list of any iview or Page editor. The purpose of the Object Based Navigation Editor is to attach to, remove from, or edit the business object operations associated with the current iview or Page (from which this editor is opened). The iview from which an OBN object operation is activated. The attribute of a business object operation that determines the order in which it appears in the business object context menu. The context menu of the business object contains a list of associated operations; the topmost operation is the one with the highest priority and is, therefore, the default operation. An iview based on a JDBC-compliant SQL query, which uses the NetWeaver portal connector framework to retrieve data from a back-end database application. The query iview can be created by means of the iview wizard using the query iview template. The core service of the SAP Enterprise Portal unification feature, which is responsible for finding relationships between business objects. A portal unification utility by which the relationships between business objects, imported from back-end systems into the Portal Content Directory, can be displayed and edited. The main area of the Relationship Editor, dedicated to displaying a matrix of source and target business objects, where their meeting point in the matrix indicates a relation, or potential relation. Comprises the business objects needed, in the correct order, to complete a relationship between source and target objects.
6 relation weight Single Relation Editor source object target object Web target iview unification A value assigned to a relationship between business objects, which, in the event of multiple relations, determines priority, and may determine whether or not the relationship will be involved in a given navigation activity. The value specifying the relation weight may be assigned by default, according to the complexity and type of relation, or it may be assigned manually in the Single Relation Editor. A subeditor of the Relationship Editor used to modify the relationship between two business objects. The object from which the relationship between two business objects begins. In navigational terms, it is the object from which the user starts navigation in search of related information The attributes of the source object are used to filter the request for data. The object at which the relationship between two business objects ends. In navigation terms, it always the object from which information is requested. An iview that accepts data from a business object iview and relates it to data on the World Wide Web. It represents an input form contained in a Web site's HTML page. A collection of NetWeaver portal services and components, which, together, support a variety of portal features enabling connectivity, integration, and navigation. These include sophisticated methods of data retrieval from backend applications and a variety of navigation metaphors, including Drag&Relate and object-based navigation (OBN). * In order to avoid misunderstanding, please keep the spelling of these terms as they appear here in all written communication. This list is meant to cover the terms most likely to be encountered when implementing unification features, Drag&Relate, object-based navigation, and connectivity, in the portal. It is not the intention to present highly technical terminology used only content developers using code. An additional resource for terminology is SAPterm WebAccess, available on SAPNet by adding the alias, sapterm.
