5 Overview Important! We recommend that this product be installed by a certified Business Partner. Introduction Sage Abra SQL HRMS can use the SQL Server 2005, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, SQL Server 2008, or SQL Server 2008 Express database engines. If you need to reinstall Sage Abra SQL HRMS in a different location from where you originally installed it, you must first uninstall Sage Abra SQL HRMS (use Add or Remove Programs to uninstall), and then install it in the new location. If you have entered live data, be sure to back up all your SQL user databases, the \DATA subdirectory, and the \CUSTOM directories using your external backup procedures before uninstalling. If you are installing Sage Abra SQL HRMS v10.0 with Sage Abra U.S. Payroll (SQL) and you have Accpac ERP version 5.5 or earlier installed, the new installation overwrites the Accpac system manager files (which control other Accpac modules). Please contact Customer Support to resolve this issue before continuing. If you choose to continue, your data can be corrupted. Installation and Setup Guide 1

23 Read the following before you begin. Install Sage Abra SQL HRMS Confirm that server and client workstations have all the latest Microsoft Windows updates installed. If you are upgrading from a previous version and have been running Abra on client workstations, you must first uninstall all clients before you install the server (see page 72). To install, you must have Administrator access and access to the Abra SQL HRMS data. The Sage Abra SQL HRMS installation creates the physical databases, system tables, user defined functions, and stored procedures. If the Enterprise SQL DB Administrator will not provide an account with DB Create credentials, do the following: - Have the Enterprise SQL DB Administrator create a SQL account especially for the Abra SQL HRMS SQL database and give that account name to the install team. For the install only, this SQL account must have full DB Create (administrative) credentials. - Immediately after the install have the Enterprise SQL DB Administrator downgrade this account to DB Owner credentials only. Be advised that the account used on the installation panel is the same account and password that will be used by the Abra SQL HRMS application. To test this account and password combination, refer to the Database Connection Tool instructions on page 75. If you are upgrading from a previous version of 8.x, before you upgrade you should back up the database within the existing version. This ensures that when the install process creates a backup, it is placed in the correct location. Starting with Sage Abra SQL HRMS v10.0, you can no longer do a side by side installation (that is, having two or more previous versions running on the same system). If you are upgrading from a previous version and are currently running a side by side installation, please contact Customer Support for assistance before you begin the installation (see last page for contact information). When installing or upgrading Sage Abra SQL HRMS on a server that is different from the SQL Server configured for use by Sage Abra SQL HRMS (that is, the server has changed from when Sage Abra SQL HRMS 8.5 was initially configured), you must restore the following databases from the Abra\Backup folder on your product install DVD, to your SQL Server. Note: If you do not use sample data, it is not necessary to restore the sample database. However, any time a user selects to use sample data without restoring Abra HRMS_Sample.bak, an error will occur, requiring a restart of Abra. Installation and Setup Guide 19

24 Hardware and Software Requirements and Recommendations When using Abra HRMS without Payroll, restore the following database: Abra HRMS_Sample.bak When using Abra HRMS with Payroll, restore the following databases: Abra HRMS_Sample.bak AbraHRMS_System.bak Before installing Sage Abra SQL HRMS on Vista or a Windows 2008 Server, you must disable User Account Control (UAC): Select Start > Control Panel > User Accounts. In the User Accounts Tasks window, click Turn User Account Control on or off. If the UAC is currently configured in Administrator Approval Mode, the User Account Control message appears. Click Continue Clear the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box, and click OK. Click Restart Now to apply your changes. When upgrading to v10.0, all employees who are set as supervisors are automatically assigned as hiring managers. If you do not want all supervisors to be assigned as hiring managers, after installation, you can do a mass update to change their hiring manager indicator to No: 1. Create a backup of the data. 2. Start the Mass Update function and set the following: Set the Update File to Employee Personnel Set the Update Field to Hiring Manager (Y/N) Set Records to Update <This value is left blank> Set New Value to N Note: If you are using Sage Abra erecruiter, the hiring manager has the ability to create, approve, interview, and hire employees. If you are not using Sage Abra erecruiter, you may still want to indicate which employees are hiring managers within the company. You can then create reports or queries to report on employees who are hiring managers. When you enter text in fields on the installation screens (such as company name or server name), the text must contain only alpha or numeric characters (alphabetic characters a z, A Z and numeric characters 0 9). You must not use any spaces or special characters, such as or punctuation marks. 20 Sage Abra SQL HRMS

You can obtain this information by calling Sage Abra Customer Service at Customer Service hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 6 P.M. Eastern time 2. If you are upgrading from a version prior to 8.3 and you receive the following errors on the workstation, you must manually delete the VERSION.DLL file from the Abra/Programs folder on your network: The procedure entry point GetFileVersionInfoSizeA could not be located in the dynamic link library VERSION.dll OR The VFP7R.DLL file is invalid or damaged. 3. Insert the Sage Abra SQL HRMS v10.0 Installation DVD into your DVD drive. If Autorun is enabled on your system, the Sage Abra SQL HRMS dialog box opens. If the Sage Abra SQL HRMS dialog box does not automatically open, browse to your DVD, and double click Launch.exe. Installation and Setup Guide 90

95 Add a Product or Option to an Existing Sage Abra SQL HRMS system 4. Select Install Sage Abra SQL HRMS The installation program will detect that you have an existing Sage Abra SQL HRMS installation and will provide setup options. 5. Select Register and click Next. 6. Enter your Customer Information, including the Serial Number and Install Code you obtained from Customer Service. Installation and Setup Guide 91

96 Add a Product or Option to an Existing Sage Abra SQL HRMS system 7. Click Next. The Choose Destination Locations dialog box opens. 8. Click Next to finish the installation. Important! Do not change the location for either of the destination folders. The install process automatically sets the locations to the correct folders for the new product upgrade. 9. The next time you run Sage Abra SQL HRMS, you can access your new product by entering your User ID and Password. Make sure you set up security for your new product to keep your system secure. After performing the above steps on the original workstation, you should update the client installation for each of the client workstations. For more information about the client installation procedure, see the section Install Sage Abra SQL HRMS Client on page Click Save to establish a connection with the server or workstation. 92 Sage Abra SQL HRMS
