6 Licensing of DB2 PVU (1/6) Processor Value Unit (PVU) Mapping of cores to PVUs by a metric defined by IBM based on core performance and type No mix and match with Core+User licenses allowed Typical and important question: How many PVUs do we need? Determine the PVU requirements based on the IBM PVU Table ( Number of the physical or virtual existing cores multiplied with PVU factor from the table returns license requirements IBM DB2 s: IBM DB2 Express IBM DB2 IBM DB2 IBM DB2 IBM DB2 11 Licensing of DB2 PVU(2/6) Full Capacity Licensing: Licensing all physical Cores Sub Capacity Licensing: IBM allows you to license only part of the processor power. Which can return massive savings compared to otherwise obligatory full capacity licensing. But IBM requests a proof, that only the licensed PVUs are used and not more Manual reporting via Excel template (only small installations) Free of charge tool IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT) for automatic calculation (obligatory for employees or Virtualization environments with PVUs) This reporting of Sub Capacity (subset of cores) can get very complex. We recommend to use LMT even if your install is smaller than the obligatory size Use our know-how and expertise of many years of IBM license management and our investment in operations of LMT. 9 Licensing of DB2 model Licensing for IBM DB2 s allowed for data warehousing (not OLTP applications) Usage either with BLU or Datapartitioning Conditions for BLU: 75% of all tables are in columnar form The majority of your workload runs on these tables Conditions for Datapartitioning Data of this database must be distributed to minimum two partitions No usage of HA features (HADR, purescale) IBM DB2 en: IBM DB2 (max. 15 TB) IBM DB2 17 Licensing of DB2 Clustered HA environments Within HA-Installations (e.g. HADR) we have special licensing for standby servers Cold Standby: DB2 is installed but not activ. An installation is called "cold" if you have to start db2sysc to run a workload => No extra charges Idle/Warm Standby: DB2 is installed and active but not in use. The standby server is only used to be ready for the failover situation. With PVU licensing: overall 100 PVU With AUSI licensing: overall 25 AUSI With TB licensing: overall 1 TB (just for ESE) If the Standby gets clustered via purescale or get partitioned, the overall licensing counts for all Standby Hot Standby: The Standby ist active and available to take over immediately or is used for read requests (ROS = read on standby) => Full licensing 18 9
