2 single edition for companies that need to accelerate and simplify their business' use of data. This new edition includes the cost-and-time savings features of DB2 Enterprise Server Edition, the ease of administration and development of key Optim products, and the federation and replication technologies of InfoSphere. Rapid cross-platform development and database porting DB2 9.7's Oracle SQL compatibility combined with federation support across both DB2 and Oracle database data sources makes porting applications to DB2 quick and low risk. The federation capabilities allow recently ported applications to easily integrate into a mixed database environment. In addition to development across both DB2 and Oracle database, customers can use the speed and simplicity of purexml to develop new XML applications quickly for both transactional and business intelligence workloads. Optim Development Studio is now included across all editions of DB2 for LUW and InfoSphere Warehouse, giving developers a tool to rapidly build applications against either DB2 or Oracle database. Simplified Administration and Performance Tuning Database administrators are under increased pressure to manage more systems and meet stricter service level agreements. DB2 Workload Management, integrated with Optim Performance Manager, is included in the edition and help database administrators rapidly determine where performance problems are occurring and then prioritize the workload based on what the business feels is most important. To ensure critical systems can maintain security for their key data, Label Based Access Control is included in DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse Enterprise Edition, InfoSphere Warehouse with Optim Data Retention, and Enterprise Warehouse Feature for DB2. Optim Database Administrator is now included in all editions of DB2 for LUW and InfoSphere Warehouse to reduce the time and complexity of managing DB2 databases. Potentially reduced total database costs Despite increasing pressure on reducing IT capital costs the data explosion many customers are experiencing is driving up the total cost of database ownership. DB2 Deep Compression is included with DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server edition and can help significantly reduce the cost of storage. Mission critical availability With many databases simply being too important to the business to be down for even a few seconds, having a flexible high availability or disaster recovery strategy is critical. In addition to the inclusion of DB2 High Availability and Disaster Recovery functionality, bidirectional Q-Replication between a pair of source and target servers is included in the DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition and all InfoSphere Warehouse editions. Q-Replication between these two systems gives customers a new choice for critical active/active systems. Adaptive Workload Management DB2 9.7 both enhanced and simplified workload management to help database administrators tune and control workloads in DB2. Workload management allows DBAs to set the priority of different applications, users, roles and groups to reflect their business priority. Workload management runs within the DB2 engine but can also deeply integrate with Linux and AIX operating system level workload management. DB2 9.7 supports priority aging of in-progress activities, I/O buffer pool priority control for service classes, new thresholds, and improved time granularity for time-based thresholds. These new controls allow DB2 to react to changing workloads more precisely and effectively right out of the box. The DB2 data server can increase or decrease the priority of the workload ensuring that both runaway queries don't overwhelm a system and that key workloads under tight service level agreements get priority. DB2 Workload Management is included in DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition and also integrated into Optim Performance Manager. 5 Application Development Flexibility Significant application development enhancements were added to DB These enhancements will help both existing DB2 applications to be built and modified quicker and also allow developers with Oracle SQL language skills to work easily with DB2. A key focus of DB2 9.7 has been to make it easier to create stored procedures and triggers in a shorter amount of time. The enhancements include expanded support for implicit casting, the creation of modules, new functions and a range of new data types. Module and package creation allows developers to bundle and deploy groups of procedures, functions and variables. A large number of new, prewritten, system defined functions and modules included in DB2 9.7 replace scripts or functions that DBAs may have previously written themselves. Often applications ported to DB2 must access data that is stored in separate Oracle Database and DB2 databases. To simplify the design and administration of these applications the usage of IBM InfoSphere Federation Server between the DB2 for LUW source database and an Oracle Database or DB2 for LUW target database is included with DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition. If customers require more robust federation beyond DB2 LUW directly to Oracle Database or DB2, such as Oracle Database to Oracle database federation, customers may purchase InfoSphere Federation Server. Business critical reliability and availability DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition offers customers a range of choices to help ensure their critical databases remain available 24x7. DB2 High Availability and Disaster Recovery (HADR) allows customers to rapidly fail over from a primary or standby server and requires little time to set up. DB2 HADR can be enabled for read only access on the remote system to increase the value of the standby system. Some key databases have such critical availability and access requirements that both the primary and standby need to be read and written to at the same time. Included with DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition is restricted use of the DB2 Homogeneous Replication Feature. DB2 Homogeneous Replication Feature provides high-volume, low-latency replication for business continuity. The feature distributes, consolidates and synchronizes data for high availability, high throughput, and maximum flexibility with this efficient replication solution. Achieves high-volume, low-latency replication for business continuity, workload distribution or business integration scenarios Designed to achieve continuous data availability for critical applications, helping to achieve near-zero downtime for planned and unplanned outages, automatic conflict detection and resolution Helps you provide consistent, timely information to users and applications for better decision-making while offloading critical application servers Offers automatic data distribution to or consolidation from many locations automatically, helping to reduce development costs and effort The usage of DB2 Homogeneous Replication feature in DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server edition is restricted to one pair of active/active primary and secondary DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows databases. Customers are allowed to use replication for reading and writing between a pair of DB2 LUW databases or InfoSphere Warehouse databases. Any databases in this pair cannot then use Homogeneous Replication to replicate to another database outside of the pair. Allowed replication scenarios: DB2 LUW Database A replicates to DB2 LUW Database B DB2 LUW Database B replicates to DB2 LUW Database A Reading and writing of data on either Database A or Database B IBM United States Software Announcement IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 5

6 Restricted replication scenarios: DB2 LUW Database A replicates to DB2 LUW Database B (allowed) DB2 LUW Database B replicates to DB2 LUW Database A (allowed) DB2 LUW Database B replicates to DB2 LUW Database C (not allowed as Database C not in the original replication pair) DB2 LUW Database C replicates to DB2 LUW Database B (not allowed as Database B already part of a replication pair) DB2 LUW Database D replicates to DB2 for z/os Database E (not allowed as source and target must both be DB2 LUW) InfoSphere Replication Server allows flexible replication between different database platforms such as such as DB2 for z/os and Oracle Database, as well as replication between multiple source and target systems. If customers need more flexible replication than what is included in DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition and InfoSphere Warehouse they should purchase InfoSphere Replication Server. Sybase ASE SQL Skin Feature IBM DB2 SQL Skin Feature 1.0 for applications compatible with Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) can help you lower your overall cost of owning a database by helping to reduce migration and license costs as well as ongoing administration, hardware, and maintenance expenses. Benefits of the new feature include: Greatly enhanced support of SQL, stored procedures, data types, and security constructs found in applications compatible with Sybase ASE 12.5, or earlier. Full support for Open Database Connectivity (ODBC),.NET, JDBC, DB-LIB, and CT-LIB applications. Application transparency where, in many cases, few if any application code changes should be required, and application behavior should not change, even though the underlying database has. Features designed to allow skills reuse that can help application developers with Sybase ASE skills be immediately productive on DB2. Accelerated migrations to DB2 by minimizing application code changes that are required to move to DB2, so that the time required to modify and test is likewise minimized. IBM licensed key technology for DB2 SQL Skin Feature for applications compatible with Sybase ASE from ANTS Software Inc., an IBM Business Partner with strong expertise in migrating applications. IBM DB2 SQL Skin Feature 1.0 for applications compatible with Sybase ASE is an optional feature for IBM DB2 Enterprise Server Edition 9.7 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (LUW) or IBM DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition 9.7. Please refer to Software Announcement Letter , dated May 18, 2010, for more information. DB2 Workgroup Server Edition and DB2 purescale To allow DB2 Workgroup Server Edition to take advantage of new server technologies the memory limit per physical or virtual server is now 64 GB. DB2 Workgroup Server Edition restricts itself to 16 cores per server, either physical or virtual. There are no restrictions on the total number of cores or sockets on the physical server if DB2 Workgroup is licensed using the socket or authorized user pricing metrics.
