Just as a review, these are my tables within the database I set up and here is the structure for the first one. The build was on the previous Smartboard. Databases shows this and when I click on Files I will see the code I wrote. 1
I am connecting to the database InvenDB and selecting from the table invcust to get the record where the custid is note that custid is the PK. I am setting up elem as the object to hold the result of the SELECT in this case their will be a single record returned. I am displaying from that record. 2
3
This is what happens when I change the custid in the select to a record that does not exist. 4
5
The select to count the records that meet my criteria ct is set to the db.queryvalue of the select which contains the count() I can then display and test ct. 6
Note that the name is from invcust and the ordno is from orderz. Relating two tables but only one result so can still use QuerySingle although in reality I would probably just use Query. More examples coming up. 7
8
Using the grid provided to see the records. 9
Note that I added Henry Anders in my Insert program which we will see later. Think I will use the Delete program to make him go away so I can stay with the original table. Here I am using Query because I will get multipe records and I am using a For Each loop to see the records. Note in the For Each I am setting up row as the individual record within the rows collection. 10
Now he is gone. 11
Here I used an <ol> outside the VB code and the <li> as I generated the records. 12
Here I used a table to structure After the VB for each I am returning to HTML with the <tr> and then inside the <td> I need the row. which is defined in VB. 13
Adding in a border of dotted style around the table and each td 14
An alternate way is to enclose the row which goes back to HTML. 15
Since I am using the for instead of the for each I need a count of records to control the loop I have defined rows as the results of the query and each row is from rows(indexed) 16
Using the while instead of the for. 17
Now I am using the Do While loop. 18
Testing at the end with Do.. While. 19
Do Until loop with test at top 20
Do...until with test at bottom 21
Embedded if to determine dept and process Books differently. 22
Process departments differently 23
And the For Each makes it easier. 24
Using a complex IF where one thing has to be true and either of two other things. 25
Setting up and using a basic array with a fixed numeric index. 26
First I search for a match in the deptcodearray. If it is found, then I get the name from deptnamearray. 27
Relating two tables and using data from both in the display. 28
Note how I broke the select into two lines. Data from three tables. 29
Data from four tables 30
Here I added in another condition so the tables are not just joined, I am looking only for books. 31
Note I have nothing going to the screen, the record is just added. 32
Here is the record I added. 33
34
Note that I click on refresh to see the update. 35
