8 Benefits Easy Administration 100% server based No custom products required on the clients. Application enhancements/upgrades applied only on the server. Thin client Only Internet Explorer is required. All TDOT computers running windows OS have Internet Explorer pre-installed already. Unified Data Model Relational and spatial data resides inside Oracle LRS data resides inside Oracle. Business event geometry is simply another column in the business event table! Oracle triggers can automatically update business event geometry when business event LRS data changes.

All data sources are maintained within the application s s metadata scheme on the server inside the database. Application s s business logic determines data source information from application s s metadata scheme. Client has no knowledge of where the relational or spatial data originated.

11 TRIMS*Web Benefits Enhanced Security Encrypted passwords. Business logic has no knowledge of passwords, which is determined at runtime from the server registry where all the passwords are stored. All passwords are maintained and updated on the server by database network and database administrators. No username/passwords are cached at the business tier or client tier.

Multiple Mapping Engine Capability Maps can be rendered as non-intelligent images. Maps can be rendered as intelligent vector graphics. Maps can be rendered using ESRI s s Arc-based products. Maps can be rendered using Intergraph s s GeoMedia web-based based products. Current implementation uses GeoMedia Web Map due to its open architecture and ability to dynamically render graphics contained within Oracle REF cursors.

18 TRIMS*Web Architecture - Client Is 100% Internet Explorer Based. Is server generated DHTML. Is modeled as an application and not simply HTML pages. Maintains state between user actions. Uses client-side java script and XML technology.

19 TRIMS*Web Architecture Business Logic Is implemented using Microsoft Visual Basic and Microsoft Visual C++. Is modular and completely object oriented. Generate all client content using style sheets (XSL). Is the bridge between the client and the database server. Performs all query pre-processing processing and post- processing. Generates all data grids using XSL. Generates all maps using Intergraph or ESRI GIS software web software tools.

20 TRIMS*Web Architecture Database Logic Heart of the entire application! Maintains all attribute and graphic data for the entire application inside database tables. Stored Procedures perform all query requests, including spatial analysis and dynamic segmentation Streams all tabular data back to the business logic as XML data islands. 21 Application - Deployment One-time installation on TDOT intranet servers. TDOT Web Server Application and business logic are deployed on TDOT web servers. TDOT Enterprise Database Server Data and query processing logic are deployed on TDOT enterprise Oracle Spatial database. Unified data, graphic and tabular, are stored inside database. Application metadata is stored inside Oracle. No software installation required on any client workstations! Application is deployed as a query, analysis and reporting tool only at this time. Data editing is performed using the desktop tools and applications.
