2 Interactive Source Code Browser The process of System analysis, reviewing, refactoring, maintaining, or modernizing cannot be accomplished without looking at the application source code. X-Analysis supports some very advanced features on its Source Browser. X-Analysis has interactive source code browser which picks up the latest code from the System i and displays it in a comprehensive and searchable form using proper colour coding and indentation. Source browser provides: Source options - To view Indented Source Code and Normal Source Code. Pseudo Code - Source code can be viewed as a form of structured English or Pseudo code. Here Mnemonics are substituted with file/field/variable texts and constants or literals. Source levels Different source levels helps the user to understand the source code better. The user may choose to see specific code operations viz., Call/File/Field/Program Structure operations or just Comments. Diagram options - X-Analysis bundles some very powerful diagramming constructs. Data Flow Diagram, Structure Chart Diagram, Screen Flow Diagram, Program Structure Chart, and more. Flowchart One of the ways of looking the program source code is to have an execution model of the program i.e. Flowchart. The source browser facilitates this by automatic generation of Program Flowchart in Microsoft Visio. X-Analysis also offers flowcharts for Subroutine/Procedures. Export options The source code can be exported to Microsoft Excel / Word. Screen Design/Report Layout - Displays layout for associated Display / Printer File. Zoom in Lpex The user can edit the source member in Lpex editor if X-Analysis is used under WDSc / RDi.

The tool allows for seven levels of drilling down through multiple layers of variables and programs/files/screens. As the Where Used Level is increased, references with greater indirection levels are displayed. Member X-Reference: Lists all the Source Lines where the field/variable has been used/referenced, in the Member source and its associated Device Files and Copybooks. Object/Variable Where Used/Updated/Defined: Lists all the instances in the application where the specified Object/Variable has been used/referenced or Defined/Updated. Variable Where Used Levels Variable where used can be expanded to show where variables move into variables and are passed as parameters into programs, get used as aliases and so on down through the entire stream.

4 Highly Interactive Data Flow Diagrams The Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is a graphical representation of a program/object where used, showing the files and programs accessed by that object. It is colour-coded and shows both, flow of data at object level and contextual information about the specific variables/parameters passed between objects. X-Analysis determines the exact usage of each field by examining the detail of the underlying source code. This gets shown in the Outline View which gets invoked along with Data Flow Diagram editor. The Field Usage of all the objects can be viewed by opting for Detailed DFD. DFD Legend The legend on the DFD editor helps in interpreting how the objects within an application relate to the main object for which the DFD has been drawn.

5 Structure Chart Diagram The Structure Chart Diagram (SCD) gives a graphic representation of how the control passes from one program to another program within the application. This follows the call structure down the complete stack. The diagram reveals data input objects and also automatically derives a summarized description of each of the object in the diagram. Colour-coded objects reveal important functional aspects such as updates, prints, and displays, which help the user to zone in on commonly sought details. Detailed Structure Chart The detailed Structure Chart goes a step further and displays automatically generated program text for each program object. The text is recovered automatically by the X-Analysis from the application and it describes the program s purpose.

Application areas filters can then be used through the X-Analysis Solution Sets to view, document or reengineer as opposed to individual objects.

The Application Area Diagram displays the relationship in the form of calls made by programs in one Application Area to the program(s) in another Application Area.

7 Application Area Diagram The Application Area Diagram (AAD) can be generated for the entire Cross-Reference as well as for an individual Application Area. The 'Application Area Diagram' for an entire Cross-Reference library displays all the Application Areas and their Sub-Application Areas along with the relation between various Application Areas. The Application Area Diagram displays the relationship in the form of calls made by programs in one Application Area to the program(s) in another Application Area. The Application Area Diagram shows only the calling and the called programs.
