1 Overview This document describes how to transfer video clips from a TL-One Digital Video Recorder (DVR) to a Personal Computer (PC) using the Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80. The clips can then be written to a CD-R or CD-RW in *.avi format for playback on a PC with Windows Media Player installed. Expected Configuration This procedure assumes that the following hardware and software is already installed: On the PC that will be used to extract video clips from the TL-One! Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80 hardware! Dazzle MovieStar 5 software! A CD-R or CD-RW! CD recording software capable of recording Data CDs (Roxio Easy CD Creator is recommended) On the PC that will be used to view recorded clips from the CD! A CD-ROM drive! Microsoft Windows Media Player Connecting the TL-One to the Digital Video Creator 80 Equipment notes: You will require a BNC male to RCA male cable to connect the video output of the TL-One DVR to the input of the Digital Video Creator Disconnect the existing cable between the TL-One and the monitor at the rear of the TL-One DVR (video output connector). 2. Connect the Digital Video Creator 80 to the TL-One DVR. The BNC male connects to the TL-One Video output connector. The RCA male connects to the yellow colored female RCA jack labeled Video In on the Digital Video Creator 80. The connection should be set up similar to Figure 1. 1

3 Recording Clips From the TL-One to the PC Hard Drive 1. Ensure that the TL-One is turned on. Start the Dazzle MovieStar 5 application on the PC connected to the Digital Video Creator 80. If you accepted default settings during installation, click Start # Programs # MovieStar #. MovieStar. 2. Choose either NTSC (default) or PAL for the video mode. This setting depends on the video mode of the TL One. Choose Video CD for the profile, then click OK. 3

4 3. In the top left-hand corner of the screen, click CAPTURE. In the Video Device drop-down list, select DVC 80. If you have previously captured files, you are prompted to overwrite the current existing file. Choose your option appropriately. The video from the TL-One displays in the capture window. The File Location is the location of the folder on the PC where all captured video from the TL-One will be recorded. Click Browse to modify the location. The file location will be saved automatically for future use. Ensure that the video input at the bottom of the screen is set to Composite. 4. Use the front panel buttons on the TL-One to locate the clip to be recorded. When you want to begin recording, click the Start Record button. Click the Stop Record button when you are finished recording. When Stop Record is clicked, an *.avi video clip is created and automatically named and numbered on the PC hard drive. 5. Repeat this process for each clip you want to record. 6. When you are finished, click File # Quit. 4

Creating a CD Of Recorded *.AVI Clips 1. Start your CD recording software and create a new Data CD. 2. Use Windows Explorer to find the directory where the saved clips are filed.

Highlight the desired clips and drag and drop them into the Data CD layout. Sample Layout Shown for Windows XP/Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Copy clips Paste clips 3. Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW into the CD-R/CD-RW drive and click record to begin writing the CD. 4. After the CD has finished recording, exit Easy CD Creator 5 and remove the disc from the CD- R/CD-RW drive. 5

Playing Back Recorded *.AVI Clips from the CD The CD containing the *.avi clips can be used in any PC with a CD-ROM drive and Windows Media Player Installed. 1.

In Windows Media Player, Click File # Open. 3. Navigate through the browser window to locate the *.avi clips on the CD-ROM drive.

Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive and Open Windows Media Player: Start # Programs # Accessories # Entertainment #Windows Media Player. 2. In Windows Media Player, Click File # Open. 3. Navigate through the browser window to locate the *.avi clips on the CD-ROM drive. If the clips do not appear in the window, select All files. 4. Select the desired clip to play back either by double clicking the clip itself or by highlighting the clip with the mouse and then clicking Open. The clip automatically begins to play. 6

7 When you are finished viewing the clip, you may continue to play back additional clips. You may also exit the program by stopping the current clip in the viewing window, then click File # Exit or click the icon in the top right-hand corner of the window. Note If no video displays after the clip is selected or an error message appears, you may need to download the latest Windows Media Codecs found at CAUTION Do not remove the CD from the CD-ROM drive until Windows Media Player has completely closed.
