2 The PCM-H64 is an outstanding multitrack recorder/editor from SADiE that represents the pinnacle of many years of experience gained in designing high quality products for the professional audio industry. As one of the most comprehensive systems of its kind, the unique PCM-H64 offers audio professionals legendary SADiE quality, flexibility and efficiency, plus the possibility of extensive integrated interface combinations contained within a compact frame. The high-definition PCM-H64 is designed as a fully modular system, both in terms of raw processing power and input/output capabilities, backed up by a wide range of interface options. Furthermore, the fully scaleable system supports inter-card bussing so that complex internal mixer structures can be shared across multiple processing cards. Combinations of high performance interface options ensure that a fully configured system is able to offer up to 192khz/24bit audio as standard. Each TNG3 processor card delivers real-time recording, editing and mixing into 5.1 surround of up to 64 channels of 48kHz/24bit audio, whilst simultaneously supporting multiple audio processes. The PCM-H64 is supported by SADiE Version 5 software which delivers a comprehensive feature set to meet the requirements of audio post-production for film and television, multi-track music recording and editing, music mastering and broadcast production. With features such as optional integrated AVI video support, plus a range of file interchange plug-in options including ProTools 5 exchange and the new AAF file exchange protocol, compatibility is maintained with the widest range of equipment from other manufacturers.

3 PCM H64 multichannel system As part of the acclaimed SADiE Series 5 range of digital audio workstations, the PCM-H64 is housed in a custom-designed 4U high housing with the striking blue front panel. Turnkey systems are configured according to customer requirements. Typically, an additional 3U high multichannel interface box is directly connected to the main unit to facilitate the addition of a range of i/o optional Slither card modules. The multichannel interface box provides a distinctive 64-channel wide array of LED s, which indicate status and signal levels plus the presence of Slither card options in the frame. A separate window indicates time code values and other system messages. Large combinations of i/o are possible within a single system utilising SADiE s own range of proprietary high quality interface Slither cards which provide a highly cost-effective solution and offer outstanding performance at a fraction of the cost of equivalent external devices. For MADI only applications, the PCM-H64 may be configured without the multichannel interface box. This option may be added later as the needs of the customer grow.

5 PCM H64 system options At the heart of the system is the TNG3 main DSP processing card developed especially for the PCM-H64. TNG3 has built on the designs for the SADiE PCM4 and PCM8 and the DSD8 Series 5 family, but now offers a quantum leap in terms of raw processing power. In one step, the expertise developed in manipulating the huge amount of data required for SADiE s outstanding DSD mastering editors has been redeployed to produce a truly powerful and flexible solution for multi-track PCM requirements. Careful remodelling incorporating the use of a 64-bit high speed PCI interface has enabled a fivefold increase in throughput, creating a design that is truly in a different class to anything currently available. MADI card The custom designed MADI card supports up to 64 channels of i/o via the MADI-X standard. Both wired and optical connections are provided with separate word clock input. The PCM-H64 MADI card attaches directly to the TNG3 DSP processor card and may be incorporated into a MADI-only combination for direct connection to digital audio recording consoles supporting the MADI-X protocol such as those commonly employed in post production environments. Multiple TNG3 cards may be employed to increase the power and number of interface channels of the system. A unique cross-card bussing system ensures large internal mixer combinations are easily achieved. Options A range of optional plug-in interface Slither cards is available to suit customer requirements. A fully configured system based on a single TNG3 card is able to offer 64 inputs and outputs of analogue conversion (48kHz/24bit) with each card providing 16 physical channels. At higher sample rates the amount of physical inputs/outputs reduce accordingly. In addition, 64 channels of AES/EBU digital i/o are possible with 16 channels per card. Other slither cards are available which support 16 channels of ADAT/TDIF digital i/o and also a unique microphone/line input card featuring software controlled input gain and 48VDC phantom power. 6 PCM H64 specification KEY FEATURES The SADiE Series 5 PCM-H64 Multi-track Digital Audio Workstation is a fully featured powerful system for post and music applications, designed to record, edit and process PCM audio at up to 192kHz. It is available only as a turnkey system and is based on a similar Version 5 operating paradigm to other SADiE Series 5 systems. PHYSICAL The PCM-H64 System is available in two variants. Pentium -based host unit with MADI i/o only contained within a standard SADiE 4U blue rack cabinet. Up to four TNG3 cards can be fitted, each of which can have a MADI interface providing 64 channels of input and output at 48kHz (i.e. a total of 256 channels of MADI i/o). Pentium -based host unit as above with 3U expansion box attached under the standard SADiE 4U blue rack making a 7U high enclosure. This box contains front panel confidence metering and 12 plug-in Slither slots at the rear, each of which can provide 16 channels of high quality analogue input; 16 channels of high quality output; or 16 channels of digital i/o. The analogue converters all operate at up to 192kHz/24 bit and the digital slither cards can also interface to high sample rate equipment. A typical configuration might include 64 channels of analogue and digital i/o at up to 192kHz though many other combinations are possible including MADI. The front panel array of 64 channels of LEDs on the 3U expansion box indicate: overload (adjustable - nominally 0dBFS); level (adjustable - nominally -6dBFS); level (adjustable - nominally -12dBFS); signal present (adjustable - nominally -48dBFS); Slither present; record enable/playback indicator. INPUT/OUTPUT OPTIONS The i/o options for the PCM-H64 system are extensive. There are currently six optional i/o solutions: MADI i/o card, attaching directly to the PCM-H64 processor card (TNG3) and appearing in the main 4U rack Analogue input Slither card Analogue output slither card AES/EBU i/o slither card ADAT/TDIF i/o slither card Mic/Line input slither card The slither cards are accommodated in an expansion 3U rack unit permanently attached under the normal SADiE 4U rack unit, making a 7U rack unit in total. Each MADI card can handle 56/64 channels of input and output at 48kHz and respectively fewer channels at higher sample rates according to the MADI-X specification (i.e. up to 16 channels per card at 192kHz) The PCM-H64 Multi-channel Interface slither card expansion box is limited to providing a maximum of 64 channels of i/o (whether digital or analogue regardless of sample rate). Each slither card provides 16 channels of analogue input, analogue output or digital (AES/EBU) i/o limited by the connector space (2 x 25way D-type connectors provide 2 x 8 channel of balanced analogue or 16x stereo AES/EBU digital i/o). Currently, for applications requiring more than 64 channels of i/o, multiple TNG3 processor cards with MADI i/o can be provided for connecting the PCM-H64 directly to a mixing console or large scale hardware control surface or multiple expansion boxes can be attached to the unit. SOFTWARE The H64 uses SADiE Version 5.3 multi-track software or higher running on Windows XP. New multi-track software features include: Multi-Track Editing: This software version allows true multi-track editing. Streams or clips do not have to be grouped together, recorded simultaneously or have the same start time to allow the normal editing modes to be used. This feature can be used in conjunction with the Edit Group Selection. Edit Group Selection: A vertical toolbar on the left of the Playlist allows the user to select particular sets of streams for editing or record enabling. Multiple groups of streams can be defined (such as drums, rhythm, solos, vocals, Backing vox, etc.) and then selected with a single click for operating upon. Nested groups are fully catered for (i.e. all vocals; backing vox; bass vox; etc.) Hardware Control Surface: SADiE now supports a number of mixing consoles and control surfaces including Yamaha DM2000, 02R96 and 01V96 mixers; SSL AWS900; Mackie HUI and SmartAV controllers/consoles. Features supported vary depending upon the hardware surface chosen. 9-PIN Support: SADiE may operate as a master or slave device with a 9-pin controller. Enhanced AVI Video Support: Improved video support for the Matrox Parhelia card. Uniquely SADiE V5.3 enables editing of the video stream within the EDL. The AVI video option now consists of the software and specially modified video cards. AAF Support and Interchange: SADiE s AAF implementation is fully compliant with the Edit Protocol (AAF v1.2). ProTools 5.0 import / export facilities into SADiE is also now available as a plug-in. These features allow much easier import from other workstation platforms such as Avid and Digidesign equipment.
