1 Dear Select Choir Students and Families, Edmodo is a free, secure, social learning platform for teachers, students, schools and districts. Edmodo provides teachers and students with a secure and easy way to post classroom materials, share links and videos, and access homework, grades and school notices. Teachers and students can store and share all forms of digital content -- blogs, links, pictures, video, documents, presentations, and more. Students will also be able to submit certain assignments electronically through Edmodo from their computers or smartphones. The main purpose of using Edmodo is to streamline communication from me to students and parents. This will especially be helpful at concert time, when I can send reminders, cancellations and updates directly to the exact people who need the information rather than posting/sending every notice to the entire Holicong Choir community. The uses for Edmodo will include: - Weekly reminders at the beginning of the week about rehearsals, performances and other special events. - Getting information about changes and cancellations to parents and students as quickly and efficiently as possible. - Sharing resources and enrichments with select choir members and their families. - Providing a forum to ask questions and participate in discussions about Holicong Choir and music related issues. On the next several pages, I have created a simple tutorial for signing up for Edmodo as a student and as a parent. If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I expect all students to maintain an Edmodo account and have the account linked to or text messaging. It is also VERY helpful if parents create and maintain a parent account by following the separate directions. If you are a returning choir member, you just need to log in to Edmodo and join this year s groups by typing in the codes that can be found on the next page of this packet. If you are new this year, please take the time to set up an Edmodo account by taking the following steps. Create an account with a username and password Set up text or alerts Have a parent create a parent account from the student account (be sure to follow directions provided!) o I am requiring a parent account for each student this year because I want to insure that information about rehearsal/concert cancellations or postponements gets to the people who need it as quickly as possible. If you are a parent and are not comfortable with your child using Edmodo, please contact me via as soon as possible so I know if anyone will not be participating. It s gonna be a great year everyone! 2 STEP 1: CREATING A STUDENT ACCOUNT 1. Visit 2. If you already have an Edmodo account, log in to your account, proceed to step 4, click on Join Group, and enter the group code listed on this page. If you forget your account information, Edmodo will you your password, etc. a. If you forget your username and password, ask Mr. Glaser!!! 3. If you are new to Edmodo, click on Student and a this window will open: 4. In the box labeled group code please enter your group code: a. Robe Choir : 98bnyv b. Women s Ensemble : vguaj6 c. H-Factor : qzkyrd d. Officers : 9uubcd 5. Choose a unique user-name (might not get your first choice) 6. Provide your address 7. Add your first and last name and click SIGN UP! ONE STEP DOWN if you have correctly signed up for Robe Choir or Women s Ensemble, you should see a message from Mr. Glaser on your home screen once you are logged in! STEP 2: SETTING UP TEXT OR ALERTS From there, you will be brought to the main screen. On the left, you will see the groups in which you are a member.

3 To set up your alerts and notifications, click on the arrow in the upper right corner, then click Settings. 1. At the next screen, click on and Text Updates. 2. If you would like to receive notifications when something is posted, make sure your address appears in the box. 3. If you would prefer to get Text Message notifications, choose Text Message and enter your phone info, including provider. 4. You can choose which types of messages you receive updates about via Text or . a. Notes: DEFINITELY CLICK Notes! That means you will get a text or when Mr. Glaser posts a reminder or update on Edmodo. This will include information about cancelled rehearsals or concert postponements, weekly rehearsal reminders, deadlines for submitting things or trying out for solos, etc. b. Assignments: Don t need to click. c. Quizzes: Don t need to click. d. Direct Messages: PLEASE CLICK THIS!! If Mr. Glaser sends a message directly to YOU, then you will get it as an or text. e. Replies & Follows/Likes: Up to you these are the Facebook -like functions of the Edmodo program you can decide if you want these sent as text/ updates or not. 5. Click Save Updates

4 6. If you have a smartphone, you can also download the free Edmodo app and interact with the website that way!!!! Step 3: Parent Account Registration 1. Returning parents: a. If you set up a parent account last year and your student is using the same username as last year, the account should still work and you shouldn t have to do anything special. If your student created a new username, then you will need to create a new parent account. 2. To set up a parent account, have your child log in first. YOU NEED A SPECIAL PARENT CODE FOUND ON YOUR STUDENT S HOME SCREEN BEFORE YOU CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT. 3. On your child s home screen, on the left-hand side near the bottom of the page, there is a box with your parent code it. Make a note of it and then log out of your student account. (Note: Be sure to use the account number on your child s screen not idjmce!)

5 4. Once you have logged out of the student account, click I M A PARENT On the Edmodo website and fill in the information including the parent code from your student s page. 5. PARENTS! Please set up your text/ updates by going back to STEP 2: SETTING UP TEXT OR ALERTS and following the directions. a. Once a parent account is set up correctly, any messages that Mr. G sends to students and parents will be able to be seen by parents. b. Once a parent account is set up and linked to a student, the parent account should not have to be set up again from year to year. USING EDMODO It is crucial to remember that this is a school site and anything posted on Edmodo can be viewed by not only parents, students and Mr. Glaser, but also CB administration. I have set up the Holicong Choir Edmodo page so that I have to approve anything that gets posted by a student to the group. With that said, any incidents of attempting to post something inappropriate will be immediately reported to administration and will be subject to disciplinary action.
