2 Obtaining an Ajax API Key Go to Under Add Domain Name, enter the domain name you use to access the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. For example, if you go to to access your CRM system, enter crmserver. Click on Add Domain to enable the use of the postcode lookup service from this domain name. If more than one domain name can be used to access your CRM system, e.g. internal users use while home workers use add all applicable domain names in turn. At the top of this page is your API key make a note of this as you will need it later.

3 Installing the solution You will have been provided with a zip file containing the postcode lookup solution. To install it, open Microsoft Dynamics CRM and go to Settings > Solutions. Click Import to start the installation. Click Browse and select the zip file you have been sent, and then click Next.

6 Configuring the postcode lookup system From the list of solutions, open the Data8PostcodeLookup entry to bring up the configuration screen. After the Loading message has finished, you will be shown a screen to enter your license details. Enter your Ajax API key you took from the Data8 website earlier, and select the type of license you have for the postcode lookup service. If you are unsure what to choose for your license type, please contact your account manager. Click Save to store these details.

Adding postcode lookup to a form To add the postcode lookup functionality to a form, select the type of entity (e.g. Account) that you want to add it to, then click Add.

If you are adding postcode lookup to an entity that has standard CRM address fields (Street 1, Street 2, Street 3, City, State/Province and Zip/Postal code), the configuration wizard can do a lot of the configuration for you. You will be shown the screen above, with the Quick Configuration drop down list containing the names of the address blocks in the entity. Select the one you want to add postcode lookup functionality to and click Configure. Using quick configuration, if there is an associated Name field, e.g. Address 1: Name, this will be used to hold any company name included in an address. Otherwise, any company name will be ignored. If this is not the desired behaviour, you can still continue to use the quick configuration wizard, but you will then need to click on the Configure link next to the entity type on the main configuration screen to edit the configuration manually.

If no standard blocks of address fields can be found by the wizard, this step will be skipped and you will be taken straight to the manual configuration screen. You can now set up what fields the address details should be placed in. For example, on an account screen you may want the company name to go into the Name field, while the address goes into address 1-3, city and state fields, with the postcode in the zip code field.

9 Note that the fields for the address have been added in order, and the Keep town and county in last two fields box has been checked. When you are happy with the layout of your address fields, click Save. You may alternatively choose to treat the organisation name as a normal part of the address, in which case any organisation name will be placed in the first address line and the other address details will be moved as appropriate, or you can choose to ignore it, in which case any organisation details will be lost. Repeat this process for any other forms you want to add postcode lookup functionality to.

10 Using postcode lookup In a form that you have configured postcode lookup for, simply enter the postcode for the address and tab or click away from the postcode field. A popup box will appear with a list of all matching addresses select an address from the list and the details will be entered into the form according to the layout you configured earlier. If only one address is found at the postcode, that address will be entered automatically without showing the popup box. Finding an address without a postcode If the postcode is not known, simply enter as much address information as is available, then enter? as the postcode and tab off. The popup box will then appear as normal with details of all matching addresses.

11 Controlling access to the postcode lookup system For a user to have access to the postcode lookup system, they must have read access to the Postcode Lookup Configuration entity. This can be achieved by either adding individual users to the Postcode Lookup User security role, or modifying an existing security role to include read access to this entity.

12 Using a static settings script The postcode lookup system by default retrieves the current settings each time a configured form is loaded. If you find that this places an unacceptable load on your server or delay for your users, you can create a static settings script to add to your configured forms to avoid this step. After configuring the postcode lookup solution as required, click the Update link at the bottom of the configuration screen. You can then copy the contents of the static settings panel. On the main CRM screen, select Settings > Customizations. Click Customize the system, then select Web Resources. Click the New button in the toolbar.

Back on the Default Solution screen, expand the Entities menu, then the first entity type you have configured postcode lookup for.

13 Enter a name such as postcodelookup_settings, a descriptive display name and the type of Script (Jscript). Click on Text Editor and paste in the script you copied earlier from the configuration screen. Click on Save then Publish, then close the Web Resource window. Back on the Default Solution screen, expand the Entities menu, then the first entity type you have configured postcode lookup for. Click on the Forms menu for the entity, and then open up the main form. In the form editor, click the Form Properties button. In the Form Libraries section, click Add and select the new_postcodelookup_settings script you created earlier.

Save and Publish the form, and the process is complete. Repeat as necessary for any other entity types that you have configured postcode lookup for.

Important: any changes you make to the configuration after deploying a static settings script will not be applied automatically. After making any changes, update the script by using the Update link at the bottom of the postcode lookup solution configuration screen, copy the updated script and update the new_postcodelookup_settings web resource. You do not need to make any further changes to the individual forms. Important: user restrictions to the postcode lookup system will not be applied after deploying a static settings script, and all users will be able to access the postcode lookup system.
