2 Sumerian Capacity Planner Release 74 This release focuses on enhancements in the way Sumerian Capacity Planner calculates your estates headroom by allowing you to select the metrics that are important to your infrastructure. Service Managers require visibility into how the applications and services are making use of the capacity available to them and whether there are any issues with the workloads that make up that service. Sumerian Capacity Planner now includes a service based report that provides you with service level details and events. We have also enhanced Metrics Explorer further to provide additional information enabling you to better understand your metrics. Headroom Metrics Selection Sumerian Capacity Planner now models and uses metrics at various levels of complexity. The following table describes the difference at each level. Included in baseline headroom calculations Is statistically modeled and trended for events Can be viewed in metric explorer Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Sumerian Capacity Planner has a default set of Level 1 Metrics that it uses throughout the product to provide insight into your infrastructure. These are currently set at CPU, Memory, vcpu configuration, Disk IO and Storage. As part of this release we are now enabling additional metrics to be added to the Level 1 Metric list. This list is available from the VM Headroom tab on the left hand side of the baseline view. One of the key elements of making Headroom calculations in Sumerian Capacity Planner more flexible is allowing you to select which metrics are important to you. Figure 1: Metrics Selection

3 As you can see from Figure 1 we have split the Reference Tab into two separate tabs; one for the VM Headroom Metrics and Reference Workload and another for the Benchmark Host. Using this tab, you can change the Level 1 metrics used in the Baseline headroom calculations. Please note that metric settings are saved along with the view and should that view be used for Forward Thinking then headroom calculations will only consider that subset of metrics that were selected. Service Report Capacity Planner now includes a new type of report which is based on a service view of your organization. This report allows you to understanding which parts of your infrastructure are impacting specific services. The report is structured using the grouping configuration that has been configured for the view. Please bare this in mind when creating the view and reviewing the report. Figure 2: Example of Service Grouping Selection The Service report generation option can be accessed from the Baseline menu item. Selecting this option will generate the report and this will then be available to download from the reports link on the Baseline View Tile. The Service Report includes the following sections: Summary Capacity by Service Detailed Capacity by Service Forecast Capacity Events Report Configuration Inventory Details Figure 3: Generate Service Report

4 Metrics Explorer Capacity Line In this release we have introduced a capacity line to the time series graph in Metrics Explorer. This provides you within a reference point for understanding the metric data presented and allows for a faster assessment of your data. Figure 4: Capacity Line Sparkline Scaling Sparklines have been enhanced by scaling them to the source data so that trends are more representative of the metric data. This ensures that you can focus on the most important metrics. Figure 5: Sparkline Enhancements
