1 Using the Study Abroad online application (Portico) Completing the full online application 1. Once you have received notification that your application to study abroad has been approved by your tutor, you will have access to the full application form. 2. To begin the application, log in to Portico using your UCL userid and password (if you do not know your password or it has expired please refer to the ISD website for details of how to obtain a new one: Click on the Study Abroad link on the left hand bar and then click Start Application Form from the Study Abroad Page 3. The first page explains the application form and gives some guidelines on how to complete it. Please read these carefully and click Launch Application when you are ready to start. Remember that you can view your progress through the application at the top of the screen. Your answers will be saved each time you click 'Save & Exit', 'Save & Continue' or 'Back'. Please note that if your browser is set to 'prevent this page from creating additional dialogs' then you may encounter difficulties completing the form.

2 4. Steps 1-5 require you to provide long-form text answers to each question. Note the maximum word count on each question and make sure that you do not go over the form will not let you advance if you exceed the word limit on a question. The form will also not allow you to continue without entering any text at all. However, you will be able to edit each question until you finally submit it so you can navigate through the form without worrying too much about your answers to start with. Once you have answered a question, press Save & Continue to see the next question, Save & Exit to save your progress and continue another time, or Back to return to the previous question. 5. Step 6 is where you upload your CV and evidence of language proficiency, if relevant. If you re not sure what evidence will be suitable to prove your level of language, please us at: studyabroad@ucl.ac.uk. Your CV and language evidence must be in PDF or Microsoft Word format. Other formats will not be accepted. #

3 6. Step 7 requires you to submit the name of your Academic Referee. To do this, you should enter their UCL address in the list box and wait for it to return the correct member of staff as shown below: Click search to bring up full details of the member of staff. Check that you have retrieved the correct person, and then click Save & Continue. If the system does not display the person you were looking for or if you do not know your Referee s address, please look it up in the UCL Staff Directory:

4 7. The final step allows to you to review all of your answers. We advise that you read through each answer carefully, and if anything needs amending you can go straight back to that step by clicking on the relevant button below the question. Once you have amended your text, you can click the Confirmation page button to be taken straight back to the final step, without having to click through all of your answers. You can also go one by one if you want to verify or correct other options by pressing Save & Continue.

5 8. Once you have checked all of your answers and completed any amendments, you can press the Submit Application button. You will not be able to make any further changes to your application, so you must be sure that you are happy before you submit. Be careful not to press back or refresh while the application is being submitted as this may interrupt the submission. 9. You will be taken to a confirmation page, as shown below. Please take a note of the reference number. You should now also receive an confirming your application if you do not get this, please contact us immediately at: studyabroad@ucl.ac.uk. 10. You re all done! Your referee will now get an asking them to complete your reference via Portico. Once this is done and the deadline has passed the Study Abroad Team will review your application. We will contact you before the end of January to let you know our decision.
