3 The Strategy UNLIMITED gcs Global Communication & Services GmbH was founded in 1996 in Salzburg, Austria, and has years of experience with logistics solutions for efficient Internet data distribution and economic utilisation of transmission capacities. Thanks to its close collaboration with and its role as technology transfer agent for the Institute for Computer Sciences at the University of Salzburg, which performs extensive research in the area of distributed systems and networks, and which is well established in "Internet via Satellite'' technology since 1992, gcs has already at an early stage recognised the significance and the potentials of the Internet protocol.
