6: Using a Device Server in Place of Redirector Software A: Typical Installation B: Device Server Configuration C: Serial Channel (Port) Configuration D: Phoenix Configuration 1: Device Server Introduction A: Overview The Device Server allows you to poll transactions and manage your System2 or K800 systems with Phoenix PC software via your wide/local area network. This document is designed to help you implement this functionality. Note: This document is only intended for use with K800 and System2 Fuel Site Controllers. B: Redirector Software Redirector is a software utility that will be installed on the PC running Phoenix. This software creates virtual Windows serial communication ports to enable Phoenix to communicate via Ethernet using standard TCP/IP protocol. Note: Redirector software is limited to the following number of virtual comm ports: Windows 98: 33 virtual ports, Windows 2000, XP: 64 virtual ports If you need to communicate with more than that number of locations, you will need to install an additional Device Server on the PC running Phoenix. Refer to Section 6 for more information. C: Typical Installation Using Device Servers with Phoenix PC and Redirector Software

2: Hardware Requirements A: Device Server and Cables This section describes the required hardware. It is assumed that all fuel sites and the Phoenix PC will have Ethernet 10/100 base-t network port connections available. Your network administrator may need to provide the required network information and assist in the implementation of this hardware. Each fuel site will require a Device Server and cable: Device Server (includes power supply) for each K800 & System2 FSC modem cable for each K800 FSC network interface cable for each System2 FSC B: Connecting Device Server to K800 FSC The Device Server is connected to the modem port on the FSC with a cable. Warning: Using any other cable could damage the K800 FSC and/or Device Server. The K800 modem port supports 1200 or 2400 baud rates. Set the FSC modem baud rate switch to 2400 baud. The Device Server s serial port will be configured in section 3.
C: Connecting Device Server to System2 FSC The Device Server is connected to the modem port on the FSC with a cable. Warning: Using any other cable could damage the System2 FSC and/or Device Server. The System2 FSC modem port supports 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600 baud rates. Set the FSC modem baud rate to 9600 baud The Device Server s serial port will be configured in section 3.

3: Device Server Configuration The Device Server must be configured for use before it can communicate through the serial port to the Fuel Site Controller and through the Ethernet port to the network. A: IP Address Assignment The Device Server can operate on a DHCP Server Network. The DHCP server will automatically supply the Device Server with an IP address, gateway address, and subnet mask when the Device Server boots up. Note: The DHCP server must be setup to always assign the same IP address to the Device Server. Proceed to section 3B for DHCP setup. The Device Server can also be configured with a fixed IP address for non-dhcp server networks. Proceed to section 3D for fixed IP setup. B: DHCP Server The Device Server ships with a default IP address of , which automatically enables DHCP. No further configuration is necessary for the network connection. A Telnet session must now be established in order to configure the serial port parameters. C: Telnet Configuration Connect the Device Sever to the DHCP server network using a standard 10/100Base-T network cable (not supplied). The network will then assign the IP address, gateway address, and subnet mask when the Device Server powers up.
The network administrator will then need to find the IP address assigned to the device (The MAC address located on the bottom of the Device Server if needed). Once the IP address is identified, the system administrator can open a telnet session to configure the Device Server over the network. Open an MS-DOS command window and enter the following command, where x.x.x.x is the IP address and 9999 is the Device Server s fixed network console port number. The following will appear. Telnet x.x.x.x 9999 *** Lantronix Universal Device Server *** Serial Number xxxxxxx MAC address 00:20:4A:xx:xx:xx Software version xx.x (xxxxxx) Press Enter to go into Setup Mode <Press ENTER when this prompt above appears> Proceed to Section 3G to configure the serial port parameters. D: Fixed IP Address The Device Server ships with a default IP address of , which automatically enables DHCP. A serial connection from a PC must be established in order to configure both the network and serial port parameters. E: Serial Connection to Device Server for Configuration Connect a PC running terminal emulation software (Hyper Terminal or equivalent) to the Device Server serial port using a standard serial cable (not
supplied). Set up the terminal emulation software to have the port settings of 9600 baud, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit. To enter Setup (configuration) Mode, cycle the Device Server power (power off and back on) After power-up the self-test begins and the red diagnostic LED starts blinking. You have one second to enter three lowercase x characters. Note: The easiest way to enter Setup mode is to hold down the x key on the PC while powering up the Device Server. The following will appear. *** Lantronix Universal Device Server *** Serial Number xxxxxxx MAC address 00:20:4A:xx:xx:xx Software version xx.x (xxxxxx) Press Enter to go into Setup Mode <Press ENTER when this prompt above appears> F: Fixed IP Address Configuration You will now configure the fixed IP address and other network parameters. **** basic parameters Hardware: Ethernet Autdetect IP addr o.o.o.o/dhcp/bootp/autoip, no gateway set DHCP device name : not set ***************** Security ***************** SNMP is enabled SNMP Community Name: Telnet Setup is enabled TFTP Download is enabled Port 77Feh is enabled Web Server is enabled Enhanced Password is disabled ***************** Channel 1 **************** Baudrate 9600, I/F Mode 4C, Flow 00 Port Remote IP Adr: --- none ---, Port Connect Mode : C0 Disconn Mode: 00 Flush Mode : 00 ***************** Expert ***************** TCP Keepalive : 0s Change Setup : 0 Server configuration 1 Channel 1 Configuration 5 Expert settings 6 Security 7 Factory defaults 8 Exit without save 9 Save and exit Your choice? <Enter 0 and press ENTER> IP Address : (000).(000).(000).(000) <Enter IP address if required > Set Gateway IP Address (N) <Set Gateway IP address> Gateway IP addr (000).(000).(000).(000) <Enter if required> Netmask: Number of Bits for Host Part (0=default) <Enter 08> Change telnet config password (N) Change DHCP device name (not set)? 19 5: Phoenix Configuration This section explains how to configure the Phoenix application when using Redirector software. Note: Phoenix for Windows version 2.0 or greater is recommended. Redirector makes the PC act as though it has 64 serial ports. On the Phoenix PC, the sites will be setup as though they are directly connected to those ports. You first must configure all the virtual comm ports for each specific sites (see section 4) then each site will be setup with its own virtual comm port. 1. On the Site tab of the Data Access window, select a site and click the Button. The Site Dial-Up Configuration dialog box appears. Comm. Info Setup example using Redirector 3. Change the Port Number to the port number of the virtual comm port that has the assigned IP address for the site. (see Section 4 for assigning IP addresses to virtual comm ports) 4. Change the Baud Rate to match the Device Server s baud rate connected to the PC. 5. Repeat steps 3 thru 4 for every site. Phoenix is now ready for operation.

6: Using a Device Server in Place of Redirector Important: Redirector is the preferred method of using Phoenix in a network environment. Use this section only if you want to use a Device Server at the Phoenix PC to connect to the network. A: Typical Installation Using a Device Server with the Phoenix PC in place of Redirector
Device Server (includes interface and power supply) 2 User supplied serial cable will be needed to configure the Device Server.
B: Device Server Configuration The device server must be configured similarly to how it s configured to communicate with the K800 or System2. Refer to Section 3E and establish a local connection to the Device Server.
