1 Cray SMW 5.0 Software Release Announcement The Cray SMW 5.0 release (SMW 5.0.UP00) is available. This software announcement applies only to Cray XT6 and Cray XT6m System Management Workstations (SMWs). PRODUCT DESCRIPTION The Cray SMW 5.0 release only supports new installations of Cray XT6 systems and Cray XT6m systems. This release does not support other Cray XT systems. Throughout this document, any reference to Cray XT systems refers to Cray XT6 and Cray XT6m systems unless otherwise noted. These systems require the System Management Workstation (SMW) 5.0 release and the Cray Linux Environment (CLE) 3.0 release. Several key features are available with the SMW 5.0 release to enhance the administration and control of Cray systems. The Cray SMW 5.0 release provides the following key features. o Cray X6 compute blade (AMD socket G34 compute blade) support. Each Cray X6 compute blade includes four compute nodes; up to 96 processor cores per blade, or 2,304 processor cores per

2 cabinet. Each Cray X6 compute node is composed of two AMD Opteron processors (8-core or 12-core), each coupled with its own memory and dedicated system interconnection network application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC). Each Cray X6 compute node is designed to efficiently run up to 24 MPI tasks, or alternately can be programmed to run OpenMP within a compute node and MPI between nodes. o SLES 11 base operating system. o Significant automation of SMW software installation process. New SMW installation commands automate the SMW software installation process significantly saving administrators time and providing less chance of typographical errors from prior releases. o New xtdiscover command automatically discovers the hardware components and creates/updates the Cray system configuration. The xtdiscover command obsoletes the use of the Central Data Repository (CDR). The SMW 5.0.UP00 release has been tested with the Cray CLE 3.0.UP00. The SMW 5.0.UP00 release cannot be run with prior OS versions of Cray

3 UNICOS/lc or Cray CLE releases. For more detailed information about the SMW 5.0 release, please refer to the Cray System Management Workstation (SMW) 5.0 Software Release Overview, S RELEASE INFORMATION Distribution for this release is restricted to Cray XT6 and Cray XT6m systems. The SMW 5.0 release package must be ordered through the Cray Software Distribution Center in any of the following ways: CrayPort (for subscribers): crayport.cray.com Telephone (inside U.S., Canada): (BUG CRAY), then Telephone (outside U.S., Canada): Fax: The support policy for SMW 5.0 differs from other releases. In order to receive update (fix) releases, you must upgrade from SMW 5.0 to

4 SMW 5.1.UP00 or later SMW 5.1 update. The upgrade from SMW 5.0 to SMW 5.1 will use a similar update process available with prior SMW releases. In other words, the first available update for SMW 5.0 will be the SMW 5.1.UP00 release. Patches will be provided for SMW 5.0 until 5.1 is released. Patches for SMW 5.0 will be limited to critical fixes after SMW 5.1 is released. Security Patches for Cray SMW systems During the packaging of SMW 5.0, all security-related updates that are applicable to the SMW are included in the SMW release. Cray has combined these RPMs in getfix packages as listed below. These security FNs and CVEs are included in the SMW 5.0 base.
