5 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Description The MLiS MLB-Z HMZ ZigBee terminal is a compact terminal that is designed for wireless M2M communications. The MLB-Z4001 terminal uses the RJ45 Connector to provide data communication interface and the DC jack to provide power input. LEDs are used to indicate the status of the terminal. MLB-Z4001 is taking advantage of the specific Mesh networking protocol, featuring dense network operation and supporting for sleeping routers, and are also available in a proprietary point-to-multipoint configuration. 6 1.3 Functional Block Diagram Figure 1: Functional Block Diagram for MLB-Z4001 The MLB-Z4001 consists of a fully certified (CE approved). The terminal is supplied with power via the DC jack connector. The RJ45 connector pins are used for data communications. 8 1.5 Precautions The MLB-Z4001 terminal is designed for indoor use only. For outdoor use it has to be integrated into a weatherproof enclosure. Do not exceed the environmental and electrical limits as specified in the user manual. MLB-Z4001 Terminal User Manual 8 Rev 1.0

9 2 MECHANICAL DESCRIPTION 2.1 Overview The pictures below show the mechanical design of the terminal along with the positions of the different connectors. 12 3.2 Radio Interface (Type SMA Connector Female) - RF Antenna Figure 4: Antenna Connector for MLB-Z4001 The connection of the antenna or other equipment must be decoupled from DC voltage. For optimum RF performance, the MLiS Terminal has to be connected to an external RF antenna matched to 50ohms including other connecting cables across the operating frequency bands. Please use a SMA Male connection for the terminal. Choose suitable types of low attenuation coaxial cables if possible. In general, the ohm types RG174 or RG58 50 can be used. Avoid excessive cable length of > 10 meter Compatible RF antennas (PCB patched or Monopole type) are available for order, please refer to accessories document. 13 4 OPERATING MODES 4.1 Power on the Modem The modem is usually fully operational within 60 seconds, after powering it up. Depending on the signal strength of the network in the area, logging into a network may take longer and is outside the control of the modem. 4.2 Configuration Tool The MLiS ZigBee Configuration Utility is used to configure MLB-Z1001 or MLB-Z4001. If the user wants to configure MLB-Z4001, you can select it from the drop down menu. MLB-Z4001 Terminal User Manual 13 Rev 1.0

14 It can be used to set Destination Address, Network ID, and AES Encryption method etc. Also Send/Recv data for testing MLB-Z4001 even configure the remote MLB-Z1001 or MLB-Z4001 devices which are in the same Network ID and AES Encryption if enabled (under Advanced Tab) via API mode in the ZigBee network. Step 1:Choose MLB-Z4001 from the drop down menu. Select the desired device in the list. The default IP address of MLB-Z4001 is /24. Please set your laptop NIC s IP address to be in the same network subnet accordingly. Then click on Connect. Please note that the chosen MLB-Z4001 must be on the Server mode for connection. If not, you can double click on the device to go into the web console management. Please change the device from Client mode to Server mode so the Configuration Utility could further work. If the user would like to directly connect to the specific device instead by the broadcast search. You can click on the blank column so the Socket Setting Window would pop up. 16 Device Name: The user can input the desired device name for identification. Serial Number: The device serial name is displayed here. Destination address: The user can choose two methods to transmit the data. One is to broadcast the input data to all connected devices in the same Network ID group. The second one is to input the specific serial number of MLB-Z1001 or MLB-Z4001 ZigBee device to find that device for the data transmission. Both methods are under Transparent Mode. 17 Transparent Mode: All the transmission data can propagate thru from End Devices to the Computer located in the control center via ZigBee network without any data modification. MLB-Z4001 Terminal User Manual 17 Rev 1.0

18 API Mode: The user can configure the remote MLB-Z1001 or MLB-Z4001 devices which are in the same Network ID and AES Encryption with key if enabled. Please note that once change to this mode, the original data would be added with extra header for configuration purpose. Please remember to change back to the Transparent Mode for the original data transmission which is operational. Once hit the Apply button after select API mode, Remote Modules Tab will be displayed. Go on to hit Discover button to find the MLB-Z1001 or MLB-Z4001 devices which are in the same Network ID and AES encryption if enabled. 22 MAC/PHY Available Frequencies: A bitfield of the frequencies that are available in the module's region of operation. The command returns a bitfield, each bit corresponding to a physical channel. Channels are spaced 350 khz. Channel Mask: This bitfield allows channels to be selectively enabled or disabled. Each bit corresponds to a frequency as defined in the AF command. 23 Network ID: Only modules with the same Network ID can communicate with each other. When receiving a packet this is checked after the preamble ID. If using OEM network IDs, 0xFFFF will use the factory value. TX Power Level: The transmitter output power level. Approximate power levels are: +7dBm, +15dBm, +18dBm, +21dBm, and +24dBm. Transmit Option Broadcast Multi Transmits: The number of additional broadcast retransmissions. All broadcast packets are transmitted MT+1 times to ensure it is received. 24 Network Delay Slots: The maximum number of delay slots before rebroadcasting a network packet. AES Encryption: AES encryption is to encrypt and decrypt texts using AES encryption algorithm for security concern. If enabled, it can only search or communicate with the MLB-Z1001 or MLB-Z4001 devices with this function also enabled, same encryption key and same Network ID. Step 4: Under the Remote Modules Tab, API Mode, click on Discover. Choose the desired device in API Mode. Double Click for the configuration from the remote. 27 Basic Network Settings DHCP Client: Enable Disable The user can enable this function so the IP address of this device can be obtained from DHCP Server assignment. The user can disable this function then the user can manually type the following static IP address required info below accordingly. Static IP Address: Static Subnet Mask; Static Default Gateway; Static DNS server Connection Type: TCP UDP For TCP mode: Your host socket program actively connects with MLB-Z4001 which locates at the remote site. Your MLB- Z4001 listens for the TCP connection. For UDP mode: If you want to have real-time data transmission and your socket program uses UDP protocol, you could set MLB-Z4001 in UDP mode. Since UDP doesn t need to establish connection before sending data, it can not guarantee the data will not be lost. Transmit Timer: The timer is to control data output timeframe. Server/Client Mode: Under TCP mode, the user can select either Server or Client mode. For Server mode: MLB-Z4001 is configured as Static IP address and server listening port on a TCP/IP network. So the host requests a connection from MLB-Z4001 configured for TCP Server mode. Once the connection is established, Data can be transmitted in both directions. For Client mode: In TCP Client Mode, MLB-Z4001 can actively establish a TCP connection with a predetermined host computer. Server Listening Port: This is for the Host connecting to MLB-Z4001. The user can change the desired port #. Client Destination Host Name / IP: Input the host IP as the MLB-Z4001 configured for TCP Client Mode requests a connection. Client Destination Port: Input the host IP s port as the MLB-Z4001 configured for TCP Client Mode requests a connection. Apply button: This is for applying the configuration setting change. Cancel button: This is for cancelling the change of the configuration setting. Restore default: This is for restoring back to the default setting. Reboot: The is for rebooting the device. Note: 1. 29 Advance Firmware Upgrade Settings The MLB-Z4001 also supports loading firmware from the remote TFTP server. Note: Do NOT power down the device during the firmware upgrade process. Security Change Username setting New Username: Enter the current username. (max. 15 characters) Change Password setting Old Password: Enter the current password. (max. 15 characters) New Password: Enter the desired new password. (max. 15 characters) Confirm Password: Enter the desired new password again. 30 Note: 1. If the user forgot the username and password, please HW-reset the device for the factory default. 2. The user needs to click on Apply then hit the confirm button to submit the configuration in the pop-up window in order to activate the change of the settings. The user needs to re-enter the web-console with the new username/password. Accessible IP Setting The MLB-Z4001 uses an IP address-based filtering method to control Web Console access. When the control of the Accessible IP Setting is Enable, only addresses on the list will be allowed access to MLB-Z4001. You may add max. There are 4 IP addresses input to limit access to the MLB-Z4001. Note: The user needs to click on Apply then hit the confirm button to submit the configuration in the pop-up window.
