3 Installing BPEL environment on a Windows 7 computer is a multi-step process. A few software components are required to be installed as a foundation for the Eclipse BPEL environment. Following instructions assume a new installation of Windows 7 on a Windows compatible computer and the web browser is Internet Explorer 9 (64-bit). It is very important to be sure that all components installed are the 64 bit version. The Java Environment does not come pre-installed so it first to be installed. I. Steps to install the latest version of Java: 1. Using Internet Explorer 9, go to 2. Click on Free Java Download button. 3. Be sure that you see 64 bit Java for Windows on next screen. 4. On next screen click the Red Agree and Install button. 5. At bottom of screen, click save to download the installer. 6. Click Run to install. II. Next step is installing Tomcat Apache 1. In Internet Explorer 9, go to tomcat.apache.org 2. Under section called Tomcat Released click on Download 3. Under section called Core under , click to download 32/64 bit Windows Service Installer 4. Click Run to download and begin installation. 5. Click Next on several standard program installation screens to install Tomcat Apache as a service using the standard settings. III. Next the user needs to install the Eclipse IDE software. 1. In Internet Explorer, go to eclipse.org 2. Click Download Eclipse located under Get Started Now in large yellow box 3. On next page that comes up, choose one of the 3 editions of Eclipse (EE, Java Developers, or Classic Click Download Windows 64 bit. 5. Choose Save to store downloaded compressed folder to location on hard drive. 6. File will be stored as a Compressed folder in download folder, so right-click on eclipse-jee-indigo-sr2-win32-x86_64 folder and choose Extract All...

4 IV. Next, it is necessary to manually set two system environment variables. 1. Click Windows Start icon, type System in search field then click System applet 2. Click Advanced System Settings 3. Click Environment Variables button 4. Click New, enter JAVA_HOME as variable name 5. Enter C:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre6\bin\client\ in variable value 6. Under System Variables, click Path 7. Click Edit and add C:\Program Files (x86)\java\jre6\bin\client\ 8. Click OK twice to completely close System Control Panel. V. To Install BPEL Designer into Eclipse. 1. With Eclipse running, go to Help then Install New Software 2. Click on Add... button to add a new software source 3. Enter a name such as BPEL software and for location enter 4. Under Name, click check box next to Eclipse BPEL Designer Nightly Build Click Next at bottom of Available Software window to begin installation. 6. Files will be downloaded from download.eclipse.org then a standard program installation begins. 7. Click Next on several screens to complete installation. VI. Downloading and Extracting Apache ODE files. 1. In Internet Explorer, navigate to ode.apache.org 2. Click on Get Ode 3. Scroll down or press Page Down to the heading 4. Download the ODE from the Apache web site. Download and extract the WAR distribution (apache-ode-war zip) 5. Inside the "apache-ode-war-1.3.5" folder, you will see an "ode.war" file. A.war is a compressed Web Archive file. 6. Extract the contents of ode.war to your TOMCAT\webapps folder. In my test installation, the path was C:\Program Files (x86)\ Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 7.0\webapps\ode

5 VII. Installing Apache ODE within Eclipse Environment. 1. Show the "Servers" view by selecting the menu Windows->Show View->Servers. 2. Right click on the empty space of the "Servers" view, select New->Server. 3. Leave the server host name as localhost and select the server type as the Apache->Ode v1.x Server. Rename the server's name if you want. In my installation, I keep the default name. Then click on the button Next. 4. Select the JRE as the Default JRE which was integrated in the Eclipse. Set the path to the ODE's home directory and the Tomcat directory. Then, set the Tomcat's port as the port in its configuration file. The default port is Click Finish. You now have the ODE server which is ready to run on the Eclipse. You can see this server on the Server View. 6. Now, you should test the server's configuration by right click on the ODE server entry and select Start. Or you can click on the Start button on the Server View. If the server is successfully started, you will see the status like this. That completes installation into your Windows 7 PC.
