7 Oracle IoT Cloud Service Management Console Messages from Directly Connected Devices Cannot be sent after a Network Communication Failure IOT-46780: Occasionally, when network communications are restored after an interruption of service, messages cannot be sent from directly connected devices to Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service. Workaround: Restart the application on the directly connected device. Batch Registration Errors Occur When Using CSV Files Edited in Microsoft Excel IOT-47757: Uploading Microsoft Excel edited files for batch registration may result in errors when using the following process: 1. Download the.csv file template from the Oracle IoT Cloud Service server. 2. Edit the.csv file in Microsoft Excel. 3. Upload the.csv file to the Oracle IoT Cloud Service server for batch registration. Workaround: Use a plain text editor, such as the Notepad application, for editing the.csv template. Filter for Gateway Logging Level Is Not Working Correctly IOT-10777: If you are viewing a gateway device s log messages using the View/Edit page for Management tab under Devices, and you set the Logging Level in the Logs tab to Warning, only the Warning and Severe messages should be displayed. Instead, Fine level messages are also displayed. Workaround: None. Device Software Gets Deleted From Device When Uploaded Software Is Deleted IOT-14755: Using the Software page in the Devices section of the Oracle IoT Cloud Service Management Console, if you upload a device software to the Oracle IoT Cloud Service software repository, install it on a gateway device, and then delete the uploaded software, the device software appears to have been deleted from the gateway device. In fact, the device software is still installed in the gateway device, but 7

8 Date And Time Format Resets to English the Software tab in the gateway device s details page no longer displays the information about the installed software. Workaround: None. Date And Time Format Resets to English IOT-13788: If you re using a non-english locale, the time format used in the date selector fields of the Alerts and Messages page resets to the English format when the page is refreshed. The same occurs in the Messages section. When you choose a different language to use for your web browser and log in to your Oracle IoT Cloud Service instance. Then you click Devices from the Home page and then Alerts and Messages on the left navigation area. View the Alerts section, you ll notice the date format in the date fields at the top of the page. When you refresh the current page using F5, you will see that the date is changed to use the English format. The same occurs in the Messages section. Workaround: Alternately select the Alerts and Messages tab and the format displays back to the correct locale that your web browser is set to use. Request to Stop All System Bundles Does Not Get Completely Communicated to the Gateway IOT-21109: The startstopsystembundles command tries to stop all system bundles, but sometimes the Gateway does not receive all of the requests and some bundles are not stopped successfully. Workaround: None. Expression Builder Doesn t Work When Used from an Exploration Pattern IOT-30215: The expression builder doesn t work when used from an exploration pattern. Workaround: Create a new stream exploration that uses the pattern as a source and use the expression builder with this new stream exploration. Stream Exploration Requires Firefox 45 or Greater IOT-34404: Firefox 45 or greater is required to run stream explorations. Workaround: Use the recommended browsers for running explorations. 8

9 Stuck Threads Related to Stream Explorer May Cause the Server to Crash Stuck Threads Related to Stream Explorer May Cause the Server to Crash IOT-40545: The Data and Explorations > Explorations page may fail to load resulting in a blank screen. This can happen if the communication between Oracle IoT Cloud Service and Stream Explorer (Oracle Event Processing) has stalled. When this occurs, the Oracle IoT Cloud Service instance may need to be restarted. The issue started showing after the load balancer (Oracle Traffic Director) was tuned to enable caching. Workaround: Please contact the support team to obtain the one-off patch. Missing Maps in an Imported Application IOT-41707: If an imported application includes only the Map exploration source type, then the maps are missing in the imported application. Workaround: The application being imported should contain at least one exploration source in addition to the maps. Explorations with the Same Name are Erroneously Allowed IOT-41955: The Oracle IoT Cloud Service management console lets you create two explorations with the same name in a single application. However, this can make it difficult to distinguish between the explorations. Workaround: Use a new name for each new exploration that you create. 9

10 Timeout Error When Running the Sample JavaScript Enterprise Media Applications Oracle IoT Cloud Service Client Software Libraries Timeout Error When Running the Sample JavaScript Enterprise Media Applications IOT-51423: When running the sample Enterprise JavaScript media applications, the applications appear to build successfully but a timeout error appears in the build log and no response data is returned. Workaround: None. C POSIX Samples That Use the Messaging APIs Do Not Build with the Provided Binary Bundle IOT-19800: The directly_connected_device_sample.c and gateway_device_sample.c source files that are located in the <client-libinstall-dir>/posix/samples/make/src/advanced folder use the Oracle IoT Cloud Service Client Library Messaging API libraries only. These source files can't be built using the default binary bundle that is provided with the C POSIX Client Library download because that binary bundle contains libraries that are only supported by the Oracle IoT Cloud Service Client Library Device Virtualization API. Workaround: Build the Oracle IoT Cloud Service Client Library source bundle for the C POSIX platform using the Messaging API libraries. Use the following steps to guide you: 1. Navigate to the <client-lib-install-dir>/posix/make/ folder. 2. Enter the following at the command line: make clean all CONFIGURATION=posix LOW_LEVEL_THREAD_SAFETY=true GATEWAY=false MESSAGE_DISPATCHER=true VIRTUALIZATION_SUPPORT=false 3. Use the newly built source bundle to build the directly_connected_device_sample.c and gateway_device_sample.c source files that are located in the <client-lib-install-dir>/posix/ samples/make/src/advanced folder. Unified Provisioner for C mbed Client Software Library Performance IOT-29622: The unified provisioner for the C mbed client software library might take long to respond. Workaround: None. 10

11 Network Provisioning Multicast Discovery Fails on Some Android Devices Network Provisioning Multicast Discovery Fails on Some Android Devices IOT-39166: When using network provisioning from an android application to automatically discover registered devices, the UDP multicast discovery request is currently failing on certain devices. The discovery messages are currently failing on the emulator, Samsung Galaxy S7, Nexus 4, Nexus 9, and Samsung Note The discovery messages are currently working for Samsung Galaxy S6, Alcatel A30, HTC Desire 625, Samsung Galaxy S4, and Nexus 6. Workaround: None. Java SE Client Library OSGi Sample Fails to Execute IOT-40999: The OSGi sample compiles and installs correctly, but returns the following runtime error: sun/net/www/protocol/https/handler. Caused by: java.lang.classnotfoundexception: sun.net. not found by oracle.iot.client.device Workaround: Use the following steps as the workaround: 1. Download and unzip the Oracle IoT Cloud Service Java SE Client Software Library source distribution. You can download the source distribution from the Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service Client Software Libraries download page. 2. Change to the iotcs/csl/javase directory. 3. Edit the build.gradle file. Change the following line: def OSGI_IMPORT_PACKAGE = "javax.crypto,javax.crypto.spec,javax.net.ssl,org.json" to the following: def OSGI_IMPORT_PACKAGE = "javax.crypto,javax.crypto.spec,javax.net.ssl,org.json,sun.net. " 4. Run gradle to rebuild the library jar files. 5. Include -Dorg.osgi.framework.system.packages.extra=sun.net. on the java command line when running the OSGi framework. For example: java -Dorg.osgi.framework.system.packages.extra=sun.net. - Dsample.name=GatewayDeviceSample -Dsample.args="SAMPLE-PROVISIONING-FILE Passphrase123" -jar /home/myaccount/felix/bin/felix.jar 11

12 Simulator Images Unavailable After Server Restart Oracle IoT Cloud Service Digital Twin Simulator Simulator Images Unavailable After Server Restart IOT-51681: When the Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service server is restarted, images used in the Oracle IoT Digital Twin Simulator fail to load. Workaround: Log on to the Oracle IoT Digital Twin Simulator, click Edit ( simulation, scroll to Images, add the images, and then click Save. ) for a 12

13 Oracle IoT Cloud Service Gateway An Indirectly Connected Device Now Retains Metadata when Roaming to a New Gateway IOT-44533: Starting in , when an indirectly connected device gets activated on a new gateway, the device preserves any metadata or custom arguments that may have been specified for it. This resolves the issue where device metadata was lost on moving to a new gateway. Misleading Error Message When Installing Already Installed Software IOT-18114: If you try to remotely install software on a gateway where there already exists software with that same version, the error that you get is not clear. Any failure in the installation raises the same error message, regardless of the cause. Workaround: Before installing software remotely on a gateway, verify if a version of that software is already installed using REST APIs. 13

15 Oracle IoT Cloud Service Integrations Exploration Messages Not Received in Oracle IoT Cloud Service When Using the Fluctuation Pattern IOT-41499: When using the Fluctuation exploration type, messages are not received back from OEP (Oracle Event Processing) even though the live output stream looks good. Workaround: Convert the value to be used as Tracking Value to the float data type in another exploration, and then use the converted float value in the Fluctuation exploration. Use the following steps: 1. Create a new exploration of the Exploration type with the exploration source as the tracking value. 2. Using the FX expression editor in the live output stream, create a new field by converting the tracking value to the float data type. The expression should look like the following: "=float(tracking_value)". A new column is created in the live output stream with a default name of calc_1. 3. Publish the exploration. 4. Create the Fluctuation exploration setting the Tracking Value as calc_1 in place of the tracking_value. 5. Publish the Fluctuation exploration. 6. Create a message format from the Fluctuation exploration. 15

17 Oracle IoT Cloud Service Implementation Apply Software Upgrades in Sequence IOT-45635: Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service software upgrades should be installed in sequential order. For example, if you are upgrading Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service version and upgrades and are available, you must install version and then version You should not move directly to the version release. Failure to install upgrades in sequential order could cause Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service to operate ineffectively. Workaround: Oracle recommends that you install Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service upgrades in sequential order. Unable to Provision Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service Using Oracle Cloud Stack Manager COP In Oracle Cloud version Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service provisioning fails when using Oracle Cloud Stack Manager. Workaround: Upgrade to Oracle Cloud version or use this workaround: 1. Log in to Oracle Cloud. 2. Click your user name in the upper right and then select About. If your version is or later you do not need to complete this procedure. 3. Click the Menu ( ) icon next to Oracle CLOUD My services, and then click Oracle Cloud Stack. 4. Click the Templates tab. 5. Click the Download ( ) icon for one of these templates: Oracle-IOTProdMonitoring-Analytics-Template Oracle-IOTFleetMon-Analytrics-Template Oracle-IOTEnterpriseApps-Template Oracle-IOTEnterpriseApps-Analytics-Template Oracle-IOTAssetMon-Anlytics-Template 6. Save the template to your computer. 7. Browse to the location of the template and then open it in a text editor. 8. Remove or replace Oracle from the template name at the top of the file. Oracle is a reserved prefix for the default templates and cannot appear in the name of a modified template. 9. Modify these parameters: 17

Change jcsservicename: { "Fn::GetAtt": [jcs, servicename] } to jcsservicename:{ "Fn::Join": ["-", ["Fn::GetParam": servicename, JAAS]] }. Change oehcsservicename:{ "Fn::GetAtt": [kafka, servicename] } to oehcsservicename: { "Fn::Join": ["-", ["Fn::GetParam": servicename, OEHPCS]] }. Change bdcsceservicename:{ "Fn::GetAtt": [bigdata, servicename] } to bdcsceservicename: { "Fn::Join": ["-", ["Fn::GetParam": servicename, BDCSCE]] }. Change iotservicename:{ "Fn::GetAtt": [iot, servicename] } to iotservicename:{ "Fn::Join": ["-", ["Fn::GetParam": servicename, IOT ]] }. Note: Not all parameters appear in every template. Modify only the parameters that appear in the template you downloaded. 10. Save the modified template as a new file and remove or replace Oracle from the template name. The name should match the name you entered in step 7. Oracle is a reserved prefix for the default templates and cannot appear in the name of a modified template. 11. Import the modified template: Repeat steps 2 and 3. Click Import. Click Browse and browse to the location of the template. Double-click the template. Click Import. Click OK. 12. Click the Create a stack with this template ( ) icon and provision the Oracle Internet of Things Cloud Service or application instance. 18
