4 What is a Custom Defined Function A Custom Defined Function is any function written in Java that is registered with Essbase and can be used in the context of a calc script similar to any other native Essbase function 4

5 How to Create and Deploy Write a java class with a public method package com.oracle.essbase.cdf.stats; public class RandomNumber{ private static Random rn = new Random(); public static double getrandomnumber() { return Math.abs(rn.nextInt()); } } Create a jar file (stats.jar) and place it under: Global: %ESSBASE_HOME%\java\udf (Restart Essbase) Local : %ESSBASE_HOME%\app\MyApp\udf (Restart the app) Give it the Appropriate Permissions (If Needed. Requires Essbase Restart) In %ESSBASE_HOME%\java\udf.policy add: // Grant all permissions to stats.jar grant codebase "file:${essbase.java.home}/udf/stats.jar" { permission java.security.allpermission;}; 5

8 How to Troubleshoot a CDF Start an application and read the log file to make sure a CDF registered correctly [Thu Feb 12 13:20: ]Local/Sample///Info( ) External [GLOBAL] function [@JgetRandomNumber] registered O Typical Error Messages Wrong java method specification [com.oracle.essbase.cdf.stats.randomnumber.getrandomnumber(string)] (function [@ JgetRandomNumber]]): [specified method not found] Solution: The method does not have a String argument in its signature. Re-register the function without (String) Or, if the signature is right, make sure you restarted Essbase after placing the jar file in the udf folder ERROR Error compiling formula for [Actual] (line 7): operator expected after [@ JgetRandomNumber] Solution: The CDF did not register properly 8
