Migration of Pogo7 Templates Summary: A new version of Pogo the Tango device server code generator based on Xtext2/Xtend2 will be presented
Why do Pogo7 templates have to migrate? Pogo7 is based on Xpand however Xpand is now a frozen language and has been replaced by Xtend2 Templates only existed for C++, we wanted to develop the Python and Java templates To develop new templates for Java and Python we did not want to use a deprecated language. We decided to migrate C++ templates and develop Java and Python templates with the help of Nexeya
Xtext

Pogo Principle Use Xtext language to define a meta model (what is a Tango class)
Pogo Principle Tango Concept Define Tango Define code EMF and meta model templates with Xpand/Xtend with Xtext Xpand/Xtend classes Pogo designer on eclipse
Pogo Principle Tango Concept Define Tango Define code EMF and meta model templates with Xpand/Xtend with Xtext Xpand/Xtend classes Pogo User Interface Swing application Java Api to access The model Code templates Xpand/Xtend Pogo designer on eclipse org.tango.pogo.jar File Workflow engine
Pogo Principle Tango Class Programmer Pogo User Interface Swing application Java Api to access The model Code templates Xtend org.tango.pogo.jar File Workflow engine Tango class model Xmi file
Pogo Principle Tango Class Programmer Pogo User Interface Swing application Java Api to access The model Code templates Xtend Tango class model Xmi file org.tango.pogo.jar File Workflow engine Code files C++, java, python, html,...
Pogo Principle Tango Concept Tango Class Programmer Define Tango Define code meta model templates with with Xtext Xtend Pogo User Interface Swing application Java Api to access The model Code templates Xtend Tango class model Xmi file EMF and Xtend classes Pogo designer on eclipse org.tango.pogo.jar File Workflow engine Code files C++, java, python, html,...
Xtend is a little language that compiles into idiomatic Java source code. You can use any existing Java library seamlessly from Xtend (and vice-versa).for more information see:
Advantages of Pogo8 Upgraded to latest version of Xtext/Xtend All three languages (C++, Java, Python) supported Templates rewritten in more powerful language Xtend Faster execution time Improved UI
Xtend code Xtend code Java code
Templates Status New Templates are used in Pogo8 (is packaged with Tango8) C++ templates are used at ESRF for developing device servers since July 2012 Java (Soleil) has been written and tested only by Pascal Python templates and generated code, will presented by Sebastien Gara
Java Templates
Python Templates - Nexeya Based on the previous template : POGO 6 Documentation in sphinx format Protected regions added Use of debug_stream instead print Help for the dynamic attributes (BETA) Inheritance (not yet)
Python Templates
Python templates For NEXEYA : Where : LMJ projects 4 first DP When : soon (before end 2012) Why : Maintainability Differents actors for the LMJ need of a common solution
Future developments Pogo8 will support ALL features of Tango8 : The tool for learning about all features of Tango Provide better support for Eclipse : generate Eclipse projects (C++, Python + Java) model editor Minor improvements to UI Generate unit tests Provide support for your IDEas? You can learn Xtend or send us your input Provide support for vi? Question : should we support generating site specific versions of device servers?
Pogo Demo of Turing Machine
Tango Turing Challenge Design and implement a Tango device server in the language of your choice which implements a Turing machine. The device server will be judged on its design, universality, interface, code, usability, user interface, and documentation.
Turing Machine
3 State Busy Beaver Turing Machine busy beaver : The Turing machine which attains the maximum number of steps for a given number of states
