Queensland SUNPOZ (Tier 3 network): 17 stations covering SE Queensland. First RTK CORS network in Australia following 2001 pilot. Utilises TRIMBLE PIVOT. OPEN DATA policy data available under Creative Commons. Real time positioning provided by commercial 3 rd parties.
Queensland AUSCOPE (Tier 2 network): Developed in conjunction with Australian Government under NCRIS. Queensland component 21 CORS. AUSCOPE data available under Creative Commons. Department maintained CORS will be utilised within a future NPI.
New South Wales CORSnet NSW Originally began as SydNET in 2003 as research partnership with University of NSW 2009 rapid expansion through AUSCOPE; partnerships with Local Government. Currently 170 stations, end state 220. Whole of Government infrastructure: - AUSCOPE (11 Tier 2 stations) - Local Government host over 100 stations. - Coastal tide gauges linked to CORSnet NSW.
New South Wales - Seamless coverage with ACT, GPSnet (Victoria) and SunPOZ (Queensland) through data sharing. BUSINESS MODEL: - National Geodesy, research and education supplied through licencing agreements (FOC). - Value-added Resellers. - Premium (3) raw data, unrestricted use royalty payment. - Authorised Resellers (16) packaged subscriptions. - Local hosts (mainly Local Government) receive packaged subscription (FOC). - Business model based around recovery of maintenance costs.
New South Wales FUTURE - Hardware and software upgrade for GNSS modernisation. - In-fill rural black spots. - In-fill density in high use areas and station redundancy. - CORSnet-NSW as sensor network (atmospheric modelling).
ACT - First ACT CORS established in Currently: - Three ACT CORS (2 GNSS in Schools). - Five Geoscience Australia (National) CORS. - Data sharing agreement with CORSnet-NSW which provides 100% N-RTK coverage over ACT and access. FUTURE PLANS: - ACT Office of Surveyor General plans to build 2 additional Tier 3 CORS in 2015/16 in partnership with LPI.
Northern Territory AUSCOPE - VLBI (radio telescope) north of Katherine used by University of Tasmania AUSCOPE Tier 2 CORS across the Territory. - 5 other local sites established in / around Darwin and Alice Springs. - Contributes data streams to national geodesy, national and regional positioning services (AUSPOS).
South Australia AUSCOPE: - 10 AUSCOPE (Tier 2) CORS established with in-kind state assistance. - SA Government does not own or fund state CORS infrastructure. - Two private CORS networks in SA which use AUSCOPE and private infrastructure. - AUSCOPE open access; Private networks subscription model. FUTURE: - Some significant coverage gaps remain in SA. - Gaps include major transport routes. - Major issue for future transport applications (ITS).
Tasmania AUSCOPE: Since 2007, Tasmania has partnered with Geoscience Australia (GA) to establish: - 4 Tier 2 CORS - 3 Tier 3 CORS (GPS in Schools) project. - Data shared with GA who distribute under Creative Commons. PRIVATE NETWORKS: - Three private CORS providers operate in Tasmania and are able to access data from all 7 stations. OmniSTAR Tasmania contains approximately 19 CORS.
Victoria GPSnet VIC established in Ballarat in Network of currently 120 stations delivering 2 cm positioning across Victoria. Includes 10 AUSCOPE CORS Data sharing with NSW in near border areas. BUSINESS MODEL: - Access via subscription through Value Added Resellers (VARs) (raw CORS data) or Distributors who onsell GPSnet service directly.
Victoria FUTURE: GNSS modernisation upgrades around Melbourne CBD and surrounds over next months. Additions include 5 GNSS in Schools funded by GA.
Western Australia AUSCOPE: Currently 26 Tier 2 CORS plus 8 other new/existing Tier 2 Government stations. 200 km spacing in agricultural areas; km spacing in remote or sparsely populated north. Data supplied through GA access arrangements to private operators. FUTURE: Additional CORS in Fremantle to monitor coastal plain deformation. GNSS modernisation to upgrade all 26 AUSCOPE receivers and non-multi GNSS antennas.
Western Australia PRIVATE OPERATORS: At least 3 other private operators: RTKnetwest (21 stations) covering SW WA. SmartNet AUS (25 stations) AllDayRTK (21 stations) Numerous single stations surveying companies / minesites (not all depicted on map)
Summary Network coverage varies across jurisdictions impacts accuracy and service levels. Mix of business models subscription; agreements; OPEN DATA / Creative Commons. No clearly defined levels of service due to external dependencies (Comms, GNSS integrity). Existing high level integration between Commonwealth and State / Territory networks.
NPI Issues Fit-for-purpose network impacting - Service levels required - Coverage, access, accuracy requirements - Investment needed - Scalability and reliability for mass markets Technical integration - National aggregator / distributor / manager? Custodianship - Infrastructure maintenance funding
