That s why Monitor Pro Version 7 offers a standard interface between the various types of hardware offered by Schneider Electric. This enables end users with limited resources to install and implement a system from a single supplier, VAR, distributor, integrator, etc. It also provides a single point of responsibility for system installation, start-up, and maintenance. Monitor Pro software provides a single window into the manufacturing process, regardless of the hardware it is monitoring. Increase Productivity With either OFS Linker or Symbol Database Linker, tags can be dragged to any editor in the system, minimizing typing and increasing productivity. OFS-Linker using the Schneider Automation OPC Factory Server, variables can be defined using either PL7 or Concept and can be browsed or selected for populating the MonitorPro database by simply dragging and dropping the variable. The resulting single tag definition saves programming time. Symbol Database Linker allows the user to automatically configure the communication tables of an application using the symbol definitions provided in a PLC application. In addition, it provides an automatic check of Monitor Pro s configuration consistency with the variable definition in the PLC. Reduce Cycle Times To reduce application development time and maintenance, Monitor Pro offers two unique features: DOC Auto and On-Line Configuration. DOC Auto allows the user to create and print a structured application documentation folder by simply choosing the contents of a documentation folder, to include graphics and then creating a title page and footer that will be printed across every page. Allowing for quick detection of programming errors and application validation. On-line Configurationallows Monitor Pro applications to be modified without having to stop and restart the system. This results in reduced cycle time for application development and reduced down time for application maintenance.

7 Monitor Pro v7 Application Configuration Maximum Productivity Monitor Pro includes two powerful tools for unprecedented functionality and productivity; Client Builder and Configuration Explorer. Client Builder supports an integrated engineering and runtime environment that allows you to instantly switch drawings between engineering and runtime mode. This minimizes development cycle time and allows the user to toggle between modes. Client Builder provides a rich set of drawing and animation tools that allow you to model your production processes. Configuration Explorer is an intuitive environment that supports the configuration of Monitor Pro Servers. It provides access to Server applications over a network, allowing a single user to access multiple servers, or for multiple users to concurrently configure a single Monitor Pro server. Configuration Explorer supports the concept of object-based configuration. Objectbased configuration brings about unprecedented levels of productivity in creating applications. Repetition in configuration is completely eliminated, errors are reduced and application development times are slashed. In addition, application maintenance becomes a simplified task. Application Objects allow you to build applications using a comprehensive set of predefined objects provided with Monitor Pro. These objects model real-world objects and include the various SCADA functionalities available within the system, such as alarming, data logging and communications. A Monitor Pro application can be built simply by dragging the desired objects into the application. When an object is added to an application it can be configured manually or it can be imported from external sources. This import function allows data already available in other places to be re-used. When using data from external sources, many objects can be created with a single action, allowing large applications to be created automatically. Monitor Pro also provides the capability for you to define your own Application Objects without programming! In this way, any repetitive part of your application can be bundled into a re-usable object, resulting in significantly reduced configuration effort.

9 Monitor Pro v7 Scalable Client / Server Architecture Multi-Tier Architecture The Foundation for Success Monitor Pro Version 7 is built on multi-tier architecture that incorporates three distinct functions; data storage, data processing, and user interface. Monitor Pro Servers run on Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, or Windows 2000 and provide all data processing functionality. Monitor Pro Clients run on Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 and provide the userinterface functionality for users to view and control the automation process that Monitor Pro is monitoring. Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 is shipped with Monitor Pro to provide advanced data storage functionality out of the box. A wide variety of other databases are also supported. The Monitor Pro multi-tier architecture provides a number of distinct benefits. Centralized Application Development and Maintenance applications are stored on the Monitor Pro Servers, but can be developed and maintained from any Client in the system. Any application modifications are pushed to all Clients within the system. This significantly reduces the cost and effort associated with developing and maintaining Monitor Pro applications. Information Distribution The Monitor Pro architecture provides for distribution of information to higher-level business systems and the people who need it to make decisions. Whether your decision makers are on the plant floor, in the corporate office, or on the other side of the globe, they can get the information they need, when they need it. Scalability a multitier architecture is inherently scalable. Small applications can exist on a single computer. Large applications running across multiple servers can provide information to hundreds of users and process millions of data points. Additional scalability can be achieved simply by adding Monitor Pro Servers in the middle tier. Interoperability the Monitor Pro multi-tier architecture is based on the Windows DNA (Distributed internet Applications Architecture) standard. Windows DNA incorporates a number of Microsoft technologies. Applications built using these technologies can inter-operate, allowing users to build integrated solutions from various best in class products.

11 Monitor Pro v7 Web Connected WebClient is a component of Monitor Pro Client that connects directly into any Monitor Pro server with no additional configuration. Multiple users can view or control the complete process from anywhere in a plant or from anywhere around the world via a corporate Intranet or the Internet. WebClient works with firewalls. The use of encrypted protocols and read only clients ensures security. WebClient uses the ActiveX standard unlike competitive products that require a proprietary client environment. WebClient also saves the customer money by allowing for the deployment of multiple connections rather than entire server based applications. This saves money because each client computer only requires the client module and not the server. A further cost savings is realized due to a decrease in the amount of work required in maintaining separate databases scattered throughout an enterprise. WebClient can also work with redundant servers for high availability applications. Note: Windows NT or Windows 2000 versions of Internet Explorer version 5 or higher are recommended for WebClient. Windows 3.1 or Windows 95/98 are not supported platforms.
