License Grant. In consideration of payment of the license fee, which is part of the one time or subscription price you paid for this Lab-Volt product, Lab-Volt, as Licensor, grants to you, the Licensee, a nonexclusive, nontransferable license to use this copy of the software with the corresponding curriculum resources for the agreed purchased period. Within the warranty period, updates to your purchased media can be made available to you upon request only if the requestor has an active subscription with Lab-Volt or can provide proof of purchase of a non subscription-based product. Return of the original product may be a requirement to receive an updated version. 7. Miscellaneous. This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey. Limited Warranty and Disclaimer This software has been designed to assure correct operation when used in the manner and within the limits described in the provided product Installation & User s Guide. As a highly advanced software product, it is quite complex; thus, it is possible that if it is used in hardware configurations with characteristics other than those specified in the provided User s Guide or in environments with non-specified, unusual, or incompatible software products, problems may be encountered by a user. In such cases, Lab-Volt will make reasonable efforts to assist the user to properly operate the software but without guaranteeing its proper performance in any hardware or software environment other than as described in the provided User s Guide. This software is warranted to conform to the descriptions of its functions and performance as outlined in the courseware documentation. Upon proper notification and within a period of one year from the date of installation and/or customer acceptance, Lab-Volt, at its sole and exclusive option, will remedy any nonconformity or replace any defective software free of charge. 9 Flight Simulation Introduction Introduction This is to be used with the multimedia course presentation and the Student Guide. The remains at the workstation and contains information and procedures that are specific to the course. Please do not write in this. Record all of your notes and data in your own Student Guide. The multimedia course presentation will refer you to a specific activity title in this guide. Some units may not have activities requiring directions in this, therefore that unit title will not appear in the Table of Contents. Tips for navigating the multimedia course presentation can be found in the Mind-Sight Lab-Volt Multimedia etraining System Installation and User Guide (Mind-Sight Installation and User Guide). 11 Flight Simulation Aviation Introduction Flight 7. Open the flight simulation software. The Getting Started screen appears. From the Main Menu to the left of this screen, click on Missions. On the Mission screen, select Tutorial 1: First Takeoff from the list that appears under Title. Click on Go to Briefing. Read the briefing that appears in the Overview. When you are finished reading, click on Fly! Listen to your instructor and follow his instructions. When you are finished flying, press the Esc key on your keyboard. Select End Mission. Exit the software by clicking on the X that appears in the upper right hand corner and select Yes. Go to the next section in the multimedia presentation. Tech-Design by Lab-Volt 3

12 Controls and Instruments Flight Simulation Flying the Plane Before each and every flight, a pilot must check his/her airplane to make sure everything is working properly. Pre-Flight Check Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Cessna C172SP Skyhawk aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! If you are in the full-screen mode (no menus or taskbar are visible), press the ALT key on the keyboard to view the menu bar. From the Menu bar, click on Views>View Mode>Tower>Nearest Tower. You should see a view of the plane from the control tower. Press the + and - keys on the keyboard (NOT the keypad) to zoom in and out. Zoom in to the plane so that you can see the control surfaces (ailerons, rudder, etc.) When you see the plane up close, pull on the yoke and turn the rudder pedals with your feet. You should be able to see the control surfaces move when you move the controls. Make sure everything works properly. Turn the yoke to the left and make sure the ailerons respond. Turn the yoke to the right and make sure the ailerons respond. Pull back on the yoke and make sure the elevator responds. Push forward on the yoke and make sure the elevator responds. Push the rudder pedals to the left and make sure the rudder responds. Push the rudder pedals to the right and make sure the rudder responds. From the Menu bar, click on Views>View Mode>Cockpit>Cockpit. (NOTE: if the Menu bar is not visible, press the ALT key to display it). You will see the instrument panel and will be looking down the runway. Observe the instrument panel. Locate and become familiar with the following instruments and controls. 13 Flight Simulation Controls and Instruments Flying the Plane Try taking off and flying the plane. Start by moving the throttle forward, and watch the engine RPM increase in the Tachometer. Release the brakes by pressing the period (.) key. When the plane reaches about 60 knots per hour, pull back on the yoke to allow the plane to become airborne. Keep the nose up and the wings level. Observe the attitude indicator. When you reach about 1500 feet, start making a right 180 turn. Level off at about 2500 feet. Observe and become familiar with the flight instruments, and enjoy the thrill of flying. When you are done flying, select Flights>Exit (from the Menu bar). Click on Yes to exit the flight simulator. Remember, you need to press the ALT key to view the Menu bar if you are in full-screen mode. Go to the next section in the multimedia presentation. Tech-Design by Lab-Volt 5

14 Taxiing and Takeoff Flight Simulation Taxiing Normally, before every practice session, you would check the plane. However, to give you more time to practice controlling the plane and flying with the flight simulator, you will skip the check until you make your solo flight Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Cessna C172SP Skyhawk aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! The tower is permitting you to practice taxiing on the runway. Begin by releasing the brakes. To do this, press the period (.) key. Push the throttle forward, slightly, only enough to make the airplane start to move. Once the airplane is moving, use the throttle to control your taxi speed. Be careful not to taxi too fast. Use the rudder pedals to steer the airplane left and right. Push on the left pedal to go left and on the right pedal to go right. Try maneuvering the airplane left and right, while staying on the runway center line. As you approach the end of the runway, reduce your throttle and apply the brakes. Bring the airplane to a complete stop. 1 If you want to continue practicing, click on Flights> Reset. Remember, if you are in full-screen mode you must press the ALT key on the keyboard to view the Menu bar. 1 1 When you are finished practicing, select Flights>Exit (from the Menu bar). 15 Flight Simulation Taxiing and Takeoff Takeoff Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Cessna C172SP Skyhawk aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! Increase the engine RPM to maximum by pushing the throttle completely forward. Release the parking brakes to start the plane moving down the runway. Keep the plane in the center of the runway by steering it with the rudder pedals. When the plane reaches takeoff velocity (around 60 to 70 knots), pull back gently on the yoke. The plane will become airborne because the force of lift will overcome the plane s weight. When airborne, keep the wings of the plane level and the nose above the horizon. At an altitude of about 1000 feet, practice maneuvering the plane. When you are done flying, select Flights>Exit (from the Menu bar). Click on Yes to exit the flight simulator. Remember, you need to press the ALT key to view the Menu bar if you are in full-screen mode. Go to the next section in the multimedia presentation. Tech-Design by Lab-Volt 7

16 Flying Flight Simulation Straight and Level Flight Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Cessna C172SP Skyhawk aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! Keep the plane in the center of the runway by steering it with the rudder pedals. When the plane reaches takeoff velocity (around 60 to 70 knots), pull back gently on the yoke. The plane will become airborne because the force of lift will overcome the plane s weight. Climb to an altitude of 1500 feet. As you approach 1500 feet, you want to lower the nose to stop the plane from climbing. Be careful not to lower the nose too far; you do not want to descend. Using the yoke, make small adjustments to maintain 1500 feet. When you are level, you must keep the airplane straight. Do this by using your yoke to keep the wings level. When you are comfortable flying straight and level, Press the ALT key to view the Menu bar (if you are in full-screen mode). Select Flights>End Flight. Click on the End Flight button. Click on Learning Center from the Main Menu. Select the Lessons tab from the Learning Center screen. Under Student Pilot, select Lesson 2: Turns. Read the lesson. When you are finished, click on Fly This Lesson Now. Read the briefing and click Fly This Lesson Now. The instructor will give you instructions. Try your best. When you are done flying, select Flights>Exit (from the Menu bar). Click on Yes to exit the flight simulator. Remember, you need to press the ALT key to view the Menu bar if you are in full-screen mode. Go to the next section in the multimedia presentation. 8 Tech-Design by Lab-Volt

17 Flight Simulation Landing Landing 7. Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Learning Center. Select the Lessons tab from the Learning Center screen. Under Student Pilot, select Lesson 6: Landings. Read the lesson. When you are finished, click on Fly This Lesson Now. Read the flight briefing and click on Fly Part 1 Now. When you are finished go back and select Fly Part 2 Now. Follow your instructor s instructions and have fun. When you are done flying, select Flights>Exit (from the Menu bar). Click on Yes to exit the flight simulator. Remember, you need to press the ALT key to view the Menu bar if you are in full-screen mode. Go to the next section in the multimedia presentation. 18 The Instrument Panel and Licenses Flight Simulation Solo Flight Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Learning Center. Select the Lessons tab from the Learning Center screen. Under Student Pilot, select Lesson 7: Your First Solo. Read the lesson. When you are finished, click on Fly This Lesson Now. Read the flight briefing and click on Fly This Lesson Now. When you are done flying, select Flights>Exit (from the Menu bar). Click on Yes to exit the flight simulator. 19 Flight Simulation Stall How to Perform a Stall Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! Stalling is common for beginner pilots. A simple stall is usually not dangerous; however, it can lead to more serious problems in maneuvering the aircraft. Soon, pulling into and out of stalls will become second nature to you. Fly to an altitude of 3000 feet or more. Pull back the throttle to idle. Pull back slowly on the yoke until you see that the aircraft is stalled. How to Recover from a Stall Push forward on the yoke to bring the aircraft out of a stall. Push the throttle forward to increase speed. Return the airplane to straight and level flight. When you are finished, select Flights>Exit (from the Menu bar). Click on Yes to exit the flight simulator. Remember, you need to press the ALT key to view the Menu bar if you are in full-screen mode. 20 Coordinated and Uncoordinated Flight Flight Simulation How to Perform a Spin Open the flight simulation software. From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! Fly to an altitude of 6000 feet or more. Pull back the throttle to idle. Pull back slowly on the yoke until you see that the plane is about to stall. As you begin to stall, pull back on the stick and turn the rudder pedals to the left or to the right. The aircraft will begin to spin and fall to the ground. How to Recover from a Spin Turn the rudder in the OPPOSITE direction that you turned it to cause the spin. Push forward on the yoke to bring the plane out of a stall. As you stop spinning, ease up on the rudder. Gently pull back on the yoke to resume straight and level flying. Exit the flight simulator (Flights>Exit). Click on Yes. 21 Flight Simulation Slip and Loop-the-Loop How to Perform a Slip and a Loop-the-Loop Open the flight simulation software. How to Perform a Slip From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! Fly to an altitude of 2000 feet or more. Turn the rudder all the way to the left or to the right. Notice that the plane is not flying in the direction of the nose. How to Recover from a Slip Turn the rudder in the OPPOSITE direction that caused the slip. How to Perform a Loop-The-Loop Fly to an altitude of 6000 feet or more. Push forward on the yoke into a nose dive. Keep diving until you reach 200 knots on the airspeed indicator. Pull up steadily by pulling back on the yoke. When you see blue sky out of the windshield, apply full throttle. When the loop is 3/4 of the way through, bring the throttle back to idle. How to Recover From a Loop-The-Loop As you begin to see the horizon, level off and push the throttle up to cruise speed. Practice slips and loop-the-loops. Exit the flight simulator (Flights>Exit). 22 More Maneuvers Flight Simulation Practicing New Maneuvers Open the flight simulation software. How to Perform an Aileron Roll From the Main Menu, click on Free Flight. From the Free Flight screen, under Current Aircraft, click on Change. Select the Bombardier Learjet 45 aircraft from the list and click OK. Under Current Location, click on Change. Select a location from the list of thousands of airports. Click OK. Change the Current Weather to Clear skies. Do not change the Current Time and Season. Click Fly Now! Increase your speed to 30 knots above cruise speed. Pull back on the yoke until the nose of the airplane is slightly above the horizon. Release the pitch by allowing the yoke to return to the neutral position. Then apply the ailerons by turning the yoke the way you want the aircraft to roll. How to Recover from an Aileron Roll Just before the plane is in level flight, apply the ailerons in the opposite direction that you did to begin the roll. Level the plane out and continue to fly straight and level. How to Fly Inverted Begin an aileron roll. As you roll past 90 ( 1 4 of a circle), let up on the ailerons. As you roll to 180 ( 1 2 of a circle), stop rolling and push the yoke forward slightly. Adjust the controls to obtain level, inverted flight. To recover from inverted flight, simply repeat the steps you have just done until you roll another 180. How to Perform a Split S Begin an aileron roll. As you roll past 90 ( 1 4 of a circle), let up on the ailerons. As you roll 180º ( 1 2 of a circle), stop rolling and push the yoke forward slightly. Adjust the controls to obtain level, inverted flight. Pull back on the yoke and let up on the throttle. As you begin to level out, pitch the nose back down to level flight and push the throttle back up to cruising speed. How to Perform an Immelmann Fly to an altitude of 6000 feet or more. Push forward on the yoke into a nose dive. Keep diving until you reach 200 knots on the airspeed indicator. Pull up steadily by pulling on the yoke. When you see blue sky out of the windshield, apply full throttle. Push the yoke in to drop the nose into level flight. 14 Tech-Design by Lab-Volt

25 Appendix A Safety Appendix A Safety Safety is everyone s responsibility. All must cooperate to create the safest possible working environment. Remember that there is potential for harm in any work area. Follow the common-sense safety rules presented in the multimedia presentation and by your instructor. Any environment can be hazardous when it is unfamiliar. The Tech-Design laboratory may be a new environment to you. Make sure you use the equipment in the manner intended by the manufacturer. Your instructor will provide the necessary introduction to the learning environment and the equipment. Here are some basic rules that you should make part of your everyday routine: Make sure your behavior is appropriate to the workplace. (No clowning.) Avoid loose-fitting clothing, jewelry, or other items that could get caught in the equipment. Report any injuries to the instructor. Keep areas clean and uncluttered. Familiarize yourself with proper equipment operation and procedures. Obey all other safety rules set forth by your school, instructor, and equipment manufacturers. Tech-Design by Lab-Volt 17
