Downloader Overview Overview The SafeTcheck (STC) Pro Logger II Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) has been designed to capture data records relating to each appliance tested and then save those records to its memory. The SafeTcheck Downloader is supplied on CD with each Pro Logger II to enable the simple uploading of those records to a Personal Computer (PC). Extra functionality has been built into the Downloader such as the addition of the PAT s Serial Number, Technician s Licence Number, Frequency of Test and the Next Due Date. These fields are not part of the current STC Pro Logger II s data logging capability. The resulting file stored on the PC, containing the Test Records, may then be easily managed by the end user. This provides a great deal of flexibility enabling the user to design a record management system to suit their specific operating procedures and business needs. Test records can be saved in three formats: 1. a one row file with all the data from one test on a single line (i.e. the Header, Test Results & Comment in one row) 1 ; 2. a three row format where one test has the header, test and comment data on three separate rows. This provides for backward compatibility with the previous version s of the STC Pro Logger II; and 3. STC Pro Reporter format for a full featured data capture & reporting software application based on the popular INSPECT software. 1Any one appliance test result saved in the STC may use up to three test records; please refer to the STC Pro Logger II user manual for details 3 safetcheck downloader manual
Operator's manual Downloader Installation Installation The Downloader application must first be installed on your PC by running the installation program from the Pro Logger II CD. During this process there may be a need to install files required for the.net environment on the PC as well as the Downloader files. These will be supplied on the CD or may be downloaded from TRIO Smartcal s website 2. After installation the Downloader can be run from the PC s Start Menu or from an STC Downloader Shortcut on the user s desktop. Quick Start Once installed (from the CD supplied with the Pro Logger), start the Downloader from the desktop shortcut. Connect the Pro Logger to the PC via the USB or RS232 Cable supplied 3. Use the Setup Tab (Figure 2) to set: a. the correct communications port; b. output file format, name and path; c. enter the STC s serial number; d. enter the User or Tester s Licence number (if applicable); and d. FoT default values for Class I and Class II appliances 4. From the Downloader Control Tab Open the Downloader (Figure 1). The Downloader is now ready to accept data from the Pro Logger. Go to the F2 button on the Pro Logger and select Upload results. As data is uploaded from the Pro Logger, it will appear in the Downloader Control Window. The displayed data is actually Raw Data from the STC and so appears complete with control flags and delimiters. The number of Appliance Tests & Resultant Records downloaded will be displayed at the bottom of the screen (Figure 3). 4 safetcheck downloader manual 2Installation files are available on the CD supplied with the STC Pro Logger or the latest version can be downloaded from the TRIO Smartcal Website please refer to Associated Manuals & Links (The Help Menu) in this manual 3For information relating to the USB driver installation please visit the FAQ page on TRIO Smartcal s website please refer to Associated Manuals & Links (The Help Menu) in this manual 4For more information relating to the FoT feature please refer to Appendix A of this Manual
Downloader Operation Overview Once installed the Downloader is started by clicking on the STC Downloader shortcut on your desktop. The Downloader s interface (Figure 1) provides the user with: a. a Downloader Control Panel; b. a Setup Panel; and c. a menu bar for selecting and viewing saved files and accessing Help. This application will enable any records stored in the Pro Logger to be copied to a comma delimited file (*.CSV) on a PC, via the PC s USB Port. The resultant file may then be imported into any application capable of reading a CSV file e.g. Microsoft Excel. Figure 1 STC Downloader Interface 5 safetcheck downloader manual
Operator's manual The Setup Tab Overview The user may make changes to the Downloader s settings by editing the fields under the Setup Tab (Figure 2). Editing these fields will enable: a. you to nominate the source of the input data; b. make changes to the path and file name of the output file; c. choose to append data to an existing file or overwrite the file; d. nominate the communications port that connects the STC to the PC; e. add the STC s Serial Number; f. the addition of the Tester s Licence number (if applicable); and g. the default values for Class I and Class II Frequency of Test (FoT) values. Default values for the Downloader setup are: a. data source is the Pro Logger; b. comms port is 1; c. file format is 1 row; d. saved results file will be appended to the output file; e. results file path and file name C:\Program Files\ STC Downloader\Results-1.csv; f. STC Serial Number is blank; g. Technician s Licence number is blank; and h. FoT is 6 months for Class I appliances & 12 months for Class II. Note: Selecting Reset from Setup parameters will set all values to the default. 6 safetcheck downloader manual Figure 2 Setup Panel
The Setup Tab continued... Input Source The Setup Panel enables the user to choose the Input Source i.e. raw data from the Pro Logger or a data file. A data file (referred to as a Raw Data file) contains an exact copy of the data from the Pro Logger. Once saved the Raw Data file may be used as the data source for the Downloader rather than the Pro Logger. A Raw Data file is automatically saved at the same time as the results are saved in a comma delimited file (.csv) file. The name of the Raw Data file will be the same as the results file. This file is over written with each subsequent save of the results file, regardless of whether the results file is appended or not. Note: Consider the Raw Data file as an electronic version of the Pro Logger (a virtual Pro Logger). Communications Setup (COM Setup) From the COM Setup field the user can select the port number for the USB Port connection to the Pro Logger. Only ports available on the machine will be displayed. The Test button will check that the port is functioning correctly and that it is available. The Refresh button will update the dropdown list after any changes to ports are made i.e. an RS232 to USB converter is plugged into the PC after the Downloader has started. Output file setup (Results file) The Output File field enables the user to set the file name and path of the results file. Format type sets the way the records and tests in the results file are arranged. 1 Row (the default) provides only one row for each test result from the Pro Logger. 3 Rows provides potentially three rows for each test result: a Header, Test Data and Comment. This multi row option is provided for backward compatibility with previous versions of the STC Downloader. The filename and path for the test results file can be changed by clicking on the disk icon opposite the Filename field (Figure 2). Note: The Raw Data file is saved using the same parameters as defined in the Filename field. The Append checkbox will determine whether the latest data is appended or overwrites any existing file. The default for this field is Append (ticked); ensuring that no existing data is overwritten. Note: See section 7 of this manual for more detail relating to the saved results data file. STC Pro Serial No. The Serial number from the Pro Logger must be entered before the Downloader will proceed to download results from the Pro Logger. This is a required field. Tester s licence No. The Licence number of the User or Tester performing the Appliance Testing may be entered if applicable. This is not a required field. Default FoT in months The STC Pro Logger II allows the user to add default FoT values for the Class I and Class II appliances. If there is no other FoT value imbedded in the Comment Field from the Input File these default values will be used to calculate the Next Due Date in the Results File. Setup Parameters Once the Downloader has been configured to accept and save data from the Pro Logger II, the setup parameters may be saved. Selecting Save will ensure the current settings are saved and subsequently restored each time the Downloader is run. Selecting Reset will reset all fields to the Default values as stated in section 5. 7 safetcheck downloader manual
Operator's manual Downloading Results Once setup is complete then the communications channel to the Pro Logger may be opened by clicking on the Open Downloader button on the Downloader Control Panel. Data can now be downloaded to the PC by selecting Upload test results on the Pro Logger from the F2 menu (for more detail please refer to the STC Pro Logger II Manual). The number of Tests and Records processed is displayed at the bottom right of the Downloader Control panel (Figure 3). After saving the test results the Downloader will automatically close i.e. it will need to be opened again to accept subsequent downloads. After a successful data transfer the raw data is visible in the Downloader Control Panel (Figure 3). This data may be saved to the file previously defined in the setup screen by clicking on the Save Data Button. Both the Raw Data from the Pro Logger and a formatted Results file are saved. A progress bar at the bottom of the Downloader Control Panel displays the progress as the files are saved. 8 safetcheck downloader manual Figure 3 Downloader Control Panel
Viewing saved data (Results files) After the data has been downloaded to the PC and saved by pressing the Save Data button at the bottom of the Downloader Control Panel, it may be viewed by selecting the file from the View menu on the menu bar (Figure 4). The last two files saved will be displayed with the most recent ticked. The file will be in a *.csv format enabling it to be imported into 3rd party Spread Sheets, Database applications and word processors. Once selected the current application associated with the *.csv files on the PC, will import and then open this file (Figure 5). Figure 4 View (toolbar options) Figure 5 Saved test results from CSV file imported into MS Excel Note: If the last saved file has been appended to this results file, then the time and date of the download is recorded in the first appended row of those downloaded records. 9 safetcheck downloader manual

Appendix A Using Frequency of Test (FoT) The STC Downloader makes it possible to add the Frequency of Test (FoT) in months to each appliance tested and logged with the STC Pro Logger II. The FoT is used, together with the recorded test Date, to calculate the Next Due Test Date. To add the FoT to an appliance s test results, one of the three codes FoTx, FoTNx & FoTD must be imbedded into the STC Pro Logger s Comment Field: a. FoTx will set the current appliance s FoT to x months (x maybe an integer between 0 and 999); b. FoTD will set the FoT for the appliance to the default time in months as entered in the Downloader s Setup Panel. The default values will be inserted for this appliance and all that follow until another FoTx or FoTNx code is encountered. The default value may be different for Class I & Class II appliances; and c. FoTNx will set all the following appliance s FoT to x months until the next FoTD or FoTx is encountered. Examples: a. FoT3 anywhere in the comment field will be interpreted as a 3 month period for the Frequency of Test. The code FoT3 will be stripped out by the Downloader software, 3 months will added to the FoT column, the Next Due Date will be calculated and the code FoT3 will be added to the FoT Code Column. This will be the case for this appliance only. b. FoTN6 anywhere in the comment field will be interpreted as a 6 month period for the Frequency of Test. The code FoTN6 will be stripped out by the Downloader software, 6 months will added to the FoT column, the Next Due Date will be calculated and the code FoTN6 will be added to the FoT Code Column. This will be the case for this appliance and all that follow until another FoTx, FoTNx or FoTD code is encountered. c. Where no FoT code is used in a comment field and there has been no FoTNx preceding it, the default values will be used for that Appliance s Frequency of Test. Any of the FoT codes may be used in conjunction with a Comment 5 e.g. the comment MovedFoT3 will return a comment Moved. In this case the code FoT3 will be stripped out by the Downloader software, 3 months will added to the FoT column, the Next Due Date will be calculated and the code FoT3 will be added to the FoT Code Column. This will be the case for this appliance only. 5If using the Scanner with auto return to enter FoT codes an accompanying comment must be typed first using the keyboard 11 safetcheck downloader manual
