5 Introduction The SecretAgent Migration Tool for PGP allows you to decrypt your existing OpenPGP files and re-encrypt them in SecretAgent s more efficient.sa5 format. All that is required is that you have SecretAgent 5.6 (or above) and a recent commercial version of PGP installed on your system. Requirements Before using the SecretAgent Migration Tool for PGP: 1. Ensure that PGP 6.5.8, 7.x, or 8.0 is installed on your system and that the default keyring has the key pair you wish to use for decryption set as the default key. 2. Make sure that SecretAgent 5.6 or 5.7 is installed on your system and that you have associated an encryption certificate (for which you have the private key) with at least one user profile. NOTE: What we really need from PGP are: A recent PGP SDK: either PGP_SDK.dll from PGPsdk 1.7.8/ PGP or PGPsdk.dll from PGPsdk 2.0.1/PGP 7.x or PGPsdk 3.0.0/PGP 8.0. (These DLLs are normally found in your Windows system folder), and The user s default keyring and default private key

6 Using the Migration Tool To use the SecretAgent Migration Tool for PGP: 1. Start pgptool.exe and specify the file(s) or folder to be converted using the Main dialog: The Initial Main Dialog There will be two basic alternatives for source folder/file selection: One or more explicitly selected.pgp files in a specified folder All.pgp files in the current folder (if none are explicitly selected) In the second case, you may also check the Process subfolders option to cause the entire directory tree below the current folder to be processed. (In the first case, this checkbox will be disabled.)

7 2. Enter your PGP password and select your SecretAgent profile from the drop-down list of available profiles. (If you have only one profile, it is automatically selected.) Note that the Run button is disabled until a password is entered.) The Completed Main Dialog 3. Check one or more of the available options: Process subfolders Display files before processing Allow animation Compress before encrypting Base64-encode ciphertext Causes all folders below the selected one to be searched for PGP files and adds them to the list of files to be processed. Opens a dialog that displays a list of all PGP files to be processed. You may remove files from this list or add additional files to it. Controls animation in the Progress dialog. Controls whether decrypted files are compressed before being re-encrypted. This checkbox is set automatically upon startup based on the selected profile and is updated whenever you choose a different profile. Controls whether files are base64- encoded after being reencrypted. This checkbox is set automatically upon startup based on the selected profile and is updated whenever you

8 choose a different profile. View log file after processing Causes the Status dialog to open automatically at the end of the current session. 4. Click Run 5. [Optional] If the Display files before processing option is checked, the following dialog appears: The Selected Files Preview Dialog Use the toolbar buttons in the top right hand corner of this dialog to add files to, or remove files from, the list of Files to be processed, then click OK to start the job.

9 6. During job execution, a Progress dialog (see screenshot below) displays the current input and output filenames along with two progress bars to keep you up to date on the status of the job. You may click Cancel to terminate the job before completion. (The OK button in this dialog is disabled during the job.) The Progress Dialog (shown with animation on) If the program needs to create a.sa5 file that already exists, you will be presented with a confirmation dialog that asks whether you wish to overwrite the existing.sa5, skip the current.pgp file, cancel the remainder of the job, or overwrite this and all remaining files without asking again: The Overwrite Confirmation Dialog As your PGP files are decrypted, intermediate plaintext files are created in your default Windows temporary folder and zapped immediately after they have been re-encrypted with SecretAgent. When the job terminates, the Process Dialog s Cancel button becomes disabled, the above Process complete message appears, and the OK button becomes enabled and receives the input focus.

10 7. Press Enter, or click OK, to close the Progress dialog. If View log file after processing was checked, the Job Status dialog opens to display the log file: The Job Status (Log File) Display The log file consists of HTML generated dynamically by the program. It can be viewed at any time by clicking the Log button in the Main Dialog. Successive runs are separated by horizontal rules; error messages are highlighted in red and warning messages in orange. [This window would automatically scroll to the bottom of the log after loading the log file if we could only figure out how to accomplish that! -mjm] Click the Open button on the toolbar at the top left of this dialog to load into the embedded browser control an alternate log file (or, for that matter, any HTML document). The default log file is named logfile.htm and is stored in the user s Application Data\Secret Agent folder under Documents and Settings.

11 8. Press Enter or Esc, or click OK, to close the Job Status dialog and return to the Main dialog. The Main Dialog After Job Completion Note that this dialog retains your job settings so that any errors that occurred can be corrected and the job rerun without requiring the re-entry of a password or the re-selection of input files. Of course, the Exit button closes the application. The program will remember your selected profile and checkbox settings the next time you run it.
