4 01 Upgrade Overview Upgrading to Good MSM 8.3 This chapter provides and overview of the steps and certified paths required to upgrade from earlier versions of Good MSM to Good MSM version 8.3. To upgrade, review the single server or dual server upgrade steps on the following page. For dual server environments, the Good MSM 8.3 Upgrade must be installed on both the Repository Server and the Application Server in that order.! Note: The 8.3 upgrade should not be performed on Good MSM (BoxTone) installations version 6.x or earlier. A new installation of 8.3 is required. Single Server Environments 1. Perform a database backup. For information on performing backups, see the Good MSM Configuration and Administration Guide, Appendix C: Using the Good MSM Database Backup Utility. Log onto the server with an account that has administrator privileges. 2. Download the compressed upgrade file and latest patch installer to a directory on the Good MSM server. Extract all included files to a temporary location (leave the directory structure as is). 3. Start the 8.3 Upgrade installer, GoodMSM_8.3 _Upgrade.bat. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade. Reboot the server if prompted. The sequence of screens displayed by the Upgrade Installer is shown below, beginning on page Run the 8.3 Patch installer and reboot the server. If using a dual-server configuration, see below. Dual Server Environments! Note: In a 2-server installation, the upgrade must be installed on the Repository server first before upgrading the Application server. 1. Perform a database backup. Log onto the server with an account that has administrator privileges. For information on performing backups, see the Good MSM System Administrator Guide, Appendix C: Using the Good MSM Database Backup Utility 2. Stop all BoxTone-related Windows services on the Good MSM Application server. Note: Depending on the modules enabled, some services listed above may not be displayed. 3. Download the compressed upgrade file and latest patch installer to a directory on the Good MSM server. Extract all included files to a temporary location (leave the directory structure as is).log onto the Repository (database) server using the service account. 4. Start the Good MSM 8.3 Upgrade installer, Good MSM_8.3 _Upgrade.bat. Follow the prompts to complete the upgrade. Reboot the server if prompted. The sequence of screens displayed by the Upgrade Installer are shown below, beginning on page After successfully upgrading the Repository Server and when the Repository Server is back online, repeat the installation of the upgrade on the Application Server, and reboot that server. 6. Run the 8.3 Patch installer on the Application Server. Upgrade Guide 6

7 02 Upgrade Installation The Upgrade Installer introduction screen provides advice on how to ensure the installation successfully accomplished. It suggests: Perform a full backup of the repository server. Close all running programs to save resources before starting the upgrade It also warns that once the upgrade installer begins, then it is not possible to revert to the previous version without reinstalling that software. 1 Figure 1-1. Introduction Screen Review and follow the suggestions. To perform a full backup of the Good MSM repository, click Cancel. Review the Good MSM System Administrator Guide, Appendix C: Using the Good MSM Database Backup Utility, for information and perform the backup. Figure 1-2. 8 Upgrade Installation Re-run the 8.3 upgrade installer after the backups have been made. Or, if the backups have been completed: Click OK to continue with the upgrade. The Configuration Files Backup Folder screen opens. Select a location where backups of the configuration files will be stored. To use the default folder, click Upgrade. Or: Click Choose to browse to and select another folder. Click Upgrade to continue Figure 1-3. Configuration Files Backup Folder! Note: The folder name should not contain any spaces or special characters. You must have write permissions to the selected directory. If you do not have write permissions, the error message shown below. Without write permissions to the directory, an error will be displayed. Figure 1-4. 9 Upgrade Installation Click OK to close the error dialog. Installation cannot continue until a writable directory has been selected. To continue complete the following Update the permissions on the directory, or Choose another directory, or Click Restore Default Folder to re-select the default directory When an accessible directory has been selected, click Upgrade. Upgrading the SSL Certificate Certificates with a key length of less than 1024-bits will be blocked by a Microsoft security update and must be upgraded to 2048-bit keys in order to proceed. To upgrade your certificate, enable the checkbox under Replace existing SSL certificates with 2048-bit keys.! Note: If you have a compliant SSL certificate, you should not enable the option to replace your certificate in this screen. By default, the box under Replace existing SSL certificates with 2048-bit keys will be unchecked when the Upgrade SSL Certificates screen opens. To proceed without upgrading your certificates, leave the checkbox blank and select Upgrade to continue. Existing certificates will only be replaced if you click the checkbox next to Yes, replace the certificates. The Upgrade SSL Certificates screen opens. Figure 1-5. 10 Upgrade Installation Error Conditions: Version Incompatibility If the current Good MSM installation version is incompatible with the upgrade, an error message will be displayed. This error occurs when the Upgrade Installer detects a version prior to 8.0. Click Done to terminate and exit the upgrade installation. The Upgrade Installer will write the install log file and then exit. Install or upgrade to 8.3, update with the latest patch, and then re-run the 8.3 upgrade installer. Warning Condition: BoxTone Services Detected During the 8.3 upgrade, the upgrade installer checks to ensure that all of the BoxTone-related services have been stopped. Verify that all services have stopped and then press OK. Various BoxTone services run on both the Application Server and the Repository Server in a two-server installation. The services that are running may interfere with the upgrade installation and must be stopped. If the installer detects services running, it displays a warning: The Stop All Services warning is displayed. Figure 1-6. Stop the BoxTone Services Warning Message This warning occurs all BoxTone-related services have not been stopped on the Application Server. Verify that all Good MSM services are stopped, then click OK. For single server installations, this is not an issue. The upgrade installer will continue. Warning Condition: Good MSM HTTP Service Detected During the installation process, if the Upgrade Installer is unable to close the Good MSM HTTP Server, the upgrade installer will issue the following warning message: Upgrade Guide 10

11 Upgrade Installation BoxTone HTTP Service Running Installer could not stop the BoxTone http server. Please ensure that BoxTone http service is not running and then, click OK to continue. The BoxTone HTTP Server is detected and an warning is issued. During the installation process, the Apache web server is upgraded by Good MSM. Upon completion, Apache automatically starts the HTTP service. The Good MSM Upgrade Installer then shuts the HTTP Service down before continuing with the upgrade. Figure 1-7. Services Running Warning Message This warning occurs if Good MSM is unable to shut down the HTTP Server automatically. In this case: Manually stop the BoxTone HTTP server service, and then click OK. The upgrade installer will continue. Error Condition: Not Enough Space in Temp Directory If there is less than 20 GB of free space available on the drive of the temp directory, the upgrade will not continue. Click OK to terminate and exit the upgrade installation. The Good MSM Upgrade Installer will write the install log file and then exit. Figure 1-8. Not Enough Space Error Message. If the Upgrade Installer finishes the upgrade without problems, the following completion message is displayed: Upgrade Guide 11
