4 About Dome CXtra Dome CXtra is a group of software components that help you service and maintain the Dome C3i display and the Dome EX displays, namely, Dome E2, Dome E3, Dome E3c, and Dome E5. These are the features you can access through the application: RightLight capability to provide backlight stabilization DICOM conformance testing Ability to change luminance and calibration settings History and error reporting System information Dome CXtra gives you consistent grayscale presentation of images through the RightLight capability. You can set the target white light value for each display. Not only can you calibrate to the DICOM Grayscale Standard Display Function, you can also monitor the calibration state of the flat panel. With Dome CXtra, you can access display information on the calibration state and the hours of backlight operation. You can also change the luminance and calibration settings through the Dome CXtra menu, which enables instant DICOM calibration and conformance checking. 5 Installing Dome CXtra Installation of the Dome CXtra software is combined with the Dome DX2 display driver installation. Refer to Dome C3i/EX Display User s Guide for instructions. Installing Dome CXtra 1

6 CDE Application Manager The Dome CXtra application is run through the CDE Application Manager. To run Dome CXtra 1 Open the Application Manager - Planar DOME folder. 2 Double-click one of these four icons. RightLight Control. Allows you to set the target white level for your displays and specify which test(s) to run. DICOM Conformance. Runs the DICOM test(s) on your displays. Reporting. List information about the Dome CXtra system settings and properties for the RightLight Control and DICOM Conformance. CXtra Help. Provides support information on the Dome CXtra application. 2 Dome CXtra

7 RightLight Control The RightLight Control allows you to set the target white level of the display screen. RightLight maintains the desired white level to ensure DICOM conformance. To set up calibration controls 1 Double-click RightLight Control. The DOME RightLight Control dialog box appears, with three tabs: Backlight, Calibration, and Alerts. 2 For each tab, select Common (all screens) or specific screens, then adjust the settings. You can have different settings for different screens. Check each tab and enter your settings. 3Click Apply or OK. Apply saves your changes without closing the RightLight Control dialog box. Runs DICOM conformance if you have made any changes to the RightLight Control properties. OK saves your changes and closes the RightLight Control dialog box. Runs DICOM conformance if you have made any changes to the RightLight Control properties. WARNING External Calibration If you choose any of the response functions, do not calibrate with an external calibration product. Dome CXtra will overwrite the GCT files or cause an error during external calibration. RightLight Control 3

8 Backlight tab Use the Backlight tab to set the target white level. You can check current information on each display, including white level in cd/m 2 and hours of backlight use. In the Target White Level field, type the target white level value or use the arrow keys to adjust it. Dome CXtra adjusts the white level of the specified display(s). The value changes in the dialog box. It may take several minutes for the white level to stabilize. A message appears if the flat panel cannot achieve the target white level. 9 Calibration tab Use the Calibration tab to specify one of these response functions: DICOM Response Function (default) Automatically calibrates the flat panel to the DICOM Grayscale Standard Display Function. See DICOM PS (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM), Part 14: Grayscale Standard Display Function). Native Response Function Automatically sets the flat panel to its native response function (characteristic curve). The characteristic curve is the response function of the panel with no calibration applied. This is the display function created by loading a linear gamma correction table (GCT). No RightLight Calibration Does not automatically perform any calibration. Choose this option if you are using an external calibration product; it retains GCTs currently set. After a restart, these will be the GCTs created by an external calibration product or the default GCT. RightLight stabilizes the backlight only. WARNING Calibration. Do not calibrate with an external calibration product, unless the response function is set to No RightLight Calibration. Dome CXtra overwrites the GCT files or causes an error on external calibration. DICOM conformance. Remember to select DICOM Response Function after you complete the external calibration. Otherwise, error messages appear to warn you of deviation from DICOM conformance. RightLight Control 5

10 Alerts tab The Alerts tab selects the tests to run and sets the criteria of failure messages for the DICOM and White Level tests. If a test is not selected, it will not run automatically. To set up alerts 1 Select DICOM LUM Test, if desired. 2 Enter the Maximum allowed value for the luminance metric. Enter a value in the range from 0 (zero) to 2 (default=1.00). A value of 0 (zero) indicates perfect conformance with the DICOM Grayscale Standard Display Function. EXAMPLE Maximum allowed: 1.00 Result: DICOM LUM Test result of passes, because it is less than Select CX White Level Test, if desired. 6 Dome CXtra

11 4 Enter an acceptable Tolerance ± percentage range from the target white level specified in the Calibration tab. Enter a value in the range from 0 (zero) to 25 (default =10.00). White level values outside of this percentage range result in a failure. EXAMPLE Target white level: 600 Tolerance: ±10% Result: Values outside the range from 540 to 660 (600 ±60) fail the CX White Level test. 5 Enter a Test interval in hours. Enter a value in the range from 0 (zero) to 240 (default=4.0). This interval specifies how often to run the selected test(s) automatically. When a selected test fails, a message like this one appears: WARNING Running Tests If any test is selected or any value for RightLight control is changed, the DICOM and White Level tests run immediately. 12 DICOM Conformance DICOM Conformance runs the specified DICOM conformance tests on all specified RightLight-enabled displays. See page 3 for information on how to set which tests to run. To set up conformance 1 Double-click DICOM Conformance. A dialog box appears, showing the conformance results of your display(s). If the DICOM LUM test is set in the Alerts tab, the dialog box lists the luminance metric and Pass/Fail. If the CXtra White Level test is selected in the Alerts tab, the white level and Pass/Fail results appear in the dialog box. If either test fails, the word Fail will appear under the i in the dialog box. If a test is not selected in the Alerts tab, the message No test appears in the dialog box. 2Click OK. 8 Dome CXtra

13 Reporting Use the Reporting feature to get information about the displays on your system, such as the target and current white level. To check system information 1 Double-click Reporting. A dialog box appears. You can list information for either an individual or all displays of a workstation that have RightLight. Click the plus marks (+) to see more detail. 2 Click OK. Reporting 9

14 Dome CXtra Help The Help Viewer provides information on all components of the Dome CXtra application. To view information 1 Double-click CXtra Help. The Help Viewer appears. 2 Navigate the topics as desired. 3 Close the Help Viewer when finished. 10 Dome CXtra
