4 Colour selection and map printing is critical Careful selection of colour screens can help reduce the confusion of certain colours for the colour vision impaired The chosen set of colours is a compromise For adjusting the CMYK definition for the laser printer to print the actual event maps, the use of an IOF test sheet is recommended Unfortunately maps are not always printed that match the IOF test sheet in respect to colour due to Unsuitable colour selection for the printer Inferior print quality October 5, 2018 Prague, Czechia 18. 6 Blending of colours Blending creates other confusing colours for colour blind people Comment: Consider turning off the blending mode where implemented in the colour table except possibly for Purple on some maps when used for Course Marking ie OCAD example illustrating blending LHS off RHS on October 5, 2018 Prague, Czechia 18. 7 Further work on colour blind solutions include Refinement of colour settings particularly Yellow Olive Green Blue (new setting of 100% Cyan) Green dot (Small tree or bush) and Brown dot (Small knoll) point symbols remain problematic Green dot must be used sparingly (as per symbol definition) Possible solution: add a white centre to the green dot symbol October 5, 2018 Prague, Czechia 18. 8 Further work on colour blind solutions include Yellow screens, particularly the 50% screen, often confused with some other colour screens Possible solution: add a white dot pattern to create a textural difference to other screens October 5, 2018 Prague, Czechia 18. 9 Further work on colour blind solutions include Olive Green often confused with other colours. It must be instantly identifiable as Out of Bounds to all orienteers otherwise it is an unfair symbol Possible solutions: add a purple dot pattern to create an instant textural difference to other screens.
