2 Overview General The VC8600F H.264 Encoder/Decoder is a combination H.264 video encoder/decoder evaluation platform. It enables streaming AV over IP and is controlled via a web interface. Fig. 1. Quick Start Process Connect Encoder/Decoder Units The encoder and/or decoder units you are using must be connected to sources, displays, and your Ethernet router.

4 Quick Start Process Connect Encoder/Decoder Units The encoder and/or decoder units you are using must be connected to sources, displays, and your Ethernet router. The computer you plan to use to control the units must be connected to the same network (as shown in Fig. 5). Follow these steps to connect the system. 1. Connect the VC8600F unit(s), referring to Fig. 3 for interface labels Using an HDMI cable, connect the unit s HDMI IN connector to the video source Using a Cat5e Ethernet Cable, connect the unit s Ethernet port to the router If using the VC8600F as a decoder, use an HDMI cable to connect the unit s HDMI OUT connector to the display Connect power supply and AC power cable to the unit s DC 12V connector Verify that your video source, connected display, control computer, router, and VC8600F unit(s) are powered on. 2. Connect the VC5300I unit(s), referring to Fig. 4 for interface labels Using a Cat5e Ethernet Cable, connect the unit s Ethernet port to the router Using an HDMI cable, connect the unit s HDMI OUT connector to the display Connect power supply and AC power cable to the unit s DC 12V connector Verify that your video source, connected display, control computer, router, and VC5300I unit(s) are powered on. 3. Run Discovery Utility This utility will gather the IP addresses of units on the network. 1. On the Windows/Mac control computer connected to your network, double click Videon_Discovery.

5 Run Discovery Utility This utility will gather the IP addresses of units on the network. 1. On the Windows/Mac control computer connected to your network, double click Videon_Discovery.exe to run the utility. This utility can be found on the USB thumb drive included with your shipment. 2. Wait approximately two minutes while the application locates the units that are physically connected to the network. Once the application has found all of the units on the network, their IP addresses will be listed similar to the following: Found the following device IP addresses and UUIDs: (a88fafb2-bfdf-11d3-a0f0-0015fd002cc9) (c2735c7a-bfe0-11d3-b2e5-0015fd002cc1) (9735dc5a-bffd-11d3-ba fd002ccd) (8ac65238-c070-11d3-9d7a-0015fd002cb7) (5cfde5c0-bffb-11d3-82cb-0015fd002bfd) Press Enter to continue 3. Make note of these IP addresses. Open the Web Control Interface 1. Open Chrome on the control computer. 2. Navigate to where [unit_ip_address] is the IP address of a unit on the network you re setting up. The web control interface (Fig. 5) will open. Set Up Encoders Repeat these instructions for each encoder device you need to set up. 1. Ensure that a video source has been connected to the HDMI IN port on the VC8600F unit(s) you plan to set up. 2.

Ensure that a video source has been connected to the HDMI IN port on the VC8600F unit(s) you plan to set up. 2. Ensure that your control computer is connected to a device on the same network as the devices you plan to set up. (Note that you do not need to be connected to the individual device you are setting up, just a device on the same network.) 3. From the Web control interface, select Encoder Control from the user interface headings. Encoders that are on the same network will be displayed here. 4. Select Configure. In the dialogue window, modify the Latency Mode if desired For maximum quality, IBBP (270MS), is recommended For end-to-end latency values, see the table below: Encoding Latency Mode IBBP (270ms) IPPP (150ms) PPPP (80ms) End-to-End Latency 800ms 500ms 300ms 6. 9 Set Up Decoders 1. Ensure that a display has been connected to the HDMI OUT port on the VC8600F and/or VC5300I units you plan to set up. 2. Ensure that your control computer is connected to a device on the same network as the devices you plan to set up. (Note that you do not need to be connected to the individual device you are setting up, just a device on the same network.) 3. From the Web control interface, select Decoder Control from the user interface headings. Decoders that are on the same network will be displayed here. 4. Select Configure. The Decoder Stream Settings dialogue will be displayed (Fig. 7). Fig. 7. Decoder Stream Settings dialogue 5. Select the Source Encoder that will provide the video source for this decoder. 6. Select Multicast or Unicast as the Stream Type to be received by the decoder If Multicast, proceed to Step If Unicast: Enter port value. Recommended port values: WARNING: If you are using a VC8600F encoder/decoder for decode, do not set the port to the same value as the multicast port entered in the encoder settings Enter TTL value. Recommended TTL value: Press OK at the bottom of the dialogue box to save settings and close. You should now see video on the display that is connected to the decoder s HDMI OUT port. 8. Repeat process for each decoder you want to set up. NOTE: For both the, persistent storage allows saving of encoding/decoding configuration on a per unit basis. This means that if a unit was successfully configured and streaming, powered off, and then powered on, the unit will automatically start streaming using the same configuration as the last time it was powered on and streaming. 9
