2 SPEECHMIKE III EXECUTIONS The range consists of following basic executions: LFH 3205/3300 LFH 3215/3310 Push button device for those who associate digital dictation with button devices. In addition, the 3300 incorporates a barcode scanner. Button layout: Designed for those who have used Micro Cassette recorders. The record function can be directly enabled with the slide switch. In addition, the 3310 incorporates a barcode scanner. Slide switch positions: - RECORD - STOP - PLAY - FAST REWIND FAST FORWARD on separate button

3 SPEECHMIKE III MAIN COMPONENTS a professional dictation microphone that combines dictation controls, a microphone, loudspeaker and mouse functions in an ergonomic shape. Three programmable function buttons make the device even more flexible for customization. During use, directly communicates to the PC or Thin Client that it is connected to via the USB cable. 5 SPEECHMIKE III DETAILS THE EXPERIENCE Before developing, we studied how, where, and by whom our SpeechMike devices are being used. We also asked end users what they would look for in a successor to their SpeechMike. End user findings SpeechMike is used by male and female users The proportion of female users is increasing, especially in the medical environment Most male users were happy with the ergonomics, but for female users some improvements were requested, mainly due to smaller hands Thumb movements for controlling the dictation application should be reduced to a minimum Both left and right hand use is possible SpeechMike is seen as a tool that has to be robust and reliable Since many users are rarely looking at the device during use, blind operation is key Good record indication is needed In the legal environment, a more stylish design would be appreciated Mouse functions are used by a minority of users Sometimes, unintentionally, the trackball moved the cursor focus to a different position Remote configuration and remote firmware updated by administrators

6 THE CONCEPT Based on the findings and our experience, the target of was not just to build a successor to the SpeechMike II, but to implement ergonomic and technological improvements. The device now includes the following improvements: Minimized thumb movements for dictation functions less stressful working Improved button design and push-to-dictate operation for blind operated dictation functions Symmetric design for right and left hand use Improved microphone suspension optimized for speech recognition Bright record LED close to microphone shows On Air status Slimmer design better for smaller hands Clean, stylish and robust design looks easy to use and fits with a modern office environment Mouse functions on a less prominent position focus on the main function: dictation Clickable trackball for more convenient use of the mouse functions Trackball volume control easy playback volume definition Remote configuration and firmware update for convenient maintenance of the device THE REALIZATION IMPROVED ERGONOMICS Findings During our end user surveys, we found that there are three functions which are heavily used during dictation (in order of importance): Record Start/Stop Fast Rewind Playback Other findings: Other functions such as the trackball or function keys were rarely used The scroll wheel was not used at all Especially for slide switch devices, even the ergonomic position of the rear trigger button (left mouse button) led to problems, because it was being clicked unintentionally
