This camera provides high-definition video in 720p analog format using Polycom HDCI, a proprietary high-density connector interface. You can mount the Polycom Eagle Eye on a monitor, a flat surface, or a wall using the custom shelf (part number ). When connecting a Polycom Eagle Eye camera to video input 2, use only the approved power supply from Polycom (part number ). Do not exceed 12 Volts at 3 Amps. 6

New Microphones Polycom HDX systems support the new Polycom HDX digital microphone array. The new array has three microphone elements arranged in a triangular configuration. It incorporates improved immunity to GSM cell phone emissions and a new industrial design. Software Features The following sections describe the Polycom HDX system software features that will be new for VSX system users. For information about enabling and configuring these features, refer to the Administrator s Guide for Polycom HDX Systems. For information about using features during a call, refer to the User s Guide for Polycom HDX Systems. High-Definition Video Polycom HDX 9004 and 9002 systems can send and receive high-definition (HD), wide-screen video in point-to-point calls or via multipoint when using an HD capable bridge. The HD format supported is 1280 x 720 in progressive format. A system set for Sharpness will send HD at 1 Mbps or above; a system set for Motion will send HD at 2 Mbps or above. When an HD camera and HD display are connected to a Polycom HDX 9004 or 9002 system and configured, the display shows local video in HD. Content may also be sent in HD if a video input is configured for HD. Content frame rate will vary, but can reach a maximum of 30 fps at high call rates. Audio Enhancements Siren 22 KHz Audio The Siren 22 audio and Siren 22 stereo algorithms are the latest in a series of audio improvements from Polycom. Designed to carry the full human auditory bandwidth of 20 Hz to 22 khz, Siren 22 reproduces better audio quality for music, and makes speech easier to understand. Stereo Autorotation When a single Polycom microphone is connected to a Polycom HDX system with stereo enabled, you can use the Stereo Autorotation feature. This feature senses sound energy from the left and right speakers and automatically assigns left and right channels to the microphone elements. If the microphone is ceiling mounted or if the camera is not located in the same room as the speakers, you should disable Stereo Autorotation. 7

Onscreen Audio Meters The user interface now provides additional audio meters on the audio settings screens so that you can see the actual input level present at each audio input. Automatic Gain Control for Audio Calls and VCR/DVD Input This feature provides automatic level adjustment so that VCR/DVD input audio or speech from conference participants connected using an analog phone or Voice over ISDN is at an acceptable and consistent level. Video Transcoding Polycom HDX 9002 and 9004 systems provide video transcoding. When video transcoding is enabled, each far-site system can connect at a different call rate, up to the maximum rates allowed. The Polycom HDX system negotiates the best video algorithm and resolution between itself and each far site independently, transcoding between them as necessary. If transcoding is disabled, the Polycom HDX system reduces the rate of each far-site connection so that all connections in the call use the same rate. Software Options The following software options are available. Internal Multipoint, 4-Port or 8-Port The 4 Port option allows any Polycom HDX system to host multipoint calls with up to three other sites. The 8 Port option allows the Polycom HDX 9004 system to host multipoint calls with up to seven other sites. 6 Mbps MP (IP Only) This option allows the Polycom 9004 HDX system to use a total bandwidth of 6 Mbps when hosting multipoint IP calls. 4 Mbps Line Rate (IP Only) This option allows the Polycom HDX 9001 and 9002 systems to use up to 4 Mbps bandwidth in point-to-point or multipoint IP calls. 8

People On Content The People On Content option allows users to present content such as slides, charts, still images, or video, with the presenter overlaid on the content. The effect is similar to a weather news cast on television. For information about configuring and using People On Content, refer to the Administrator s Guide for Polycom HDX Systems and other resources available on the Polycom web site. Enhanced User Interface The Polycom HDX system user interface maintains the same basic navigation as VSX systems, providing an easy transition for experienced users. Some enhancements in the Polycom HDX system interface include the new home screen design, the new video screen design, and the onscreen Options menu. Web-Based Software Update If you need to reinstall or update your system software, use the web-based Software Update. To access Software Update: 1. On a computer, open Internet Explorer version 6.x. 2. Go to 3. Navigate to your product software. 4. Download the appropriate software update file. 5. In the browser address line, enter the system s IP address, for example, to access its web interface. If Security Mode is enabled on the system, you must use secure HTTPS access, for example, Click Yes in the security dialog boxes that appear. 6. Enter admin as the user name, and enter the remote access password, if one is set. 9

7. Go to Admin Settings > General Settings > Software Update, and follow the instructions on the screen. No software key is required to install version 1.0 or 1.0.x patch releases. API Controller Code In cooperation with the leading touch panel controller manufacturers, Polycom Video Division is proud to offer its own version of controller code designed to run on Crestron systems. This independent code base was developed specifically to address longstanding issues of code compatibility with video system software releases. This new code offering has been fully tested against the most current video system codec release. It provides a fully executable controller program but also serves as a guideline for ongoing development using Polycom preferred methodology and commands. Companion documents are also available to further explain how to interface your controller with Polycom video systems and utilize the API efficiently. We hope that by offering this code we can improve the overall usability of the video system API and enhance customer satisfaction. To access the code, visit the A/V Professionals Solutions page at 10

Feature Limitations The following table lists the known feature limitations for the release. If a workaround is available, it is noted in the table. Feature Analog Phone API Limitation Do not use the analog phone connector if you are using the Polycom HDX system in Hong Kong or South Africa. For information about whether you need to use the telephone adapter in your area, refer to the telephone adapter setup sheet that came with the Polycom HDX system. The dir command is not supported. The remotecontrol enable all command does not work after disabling the remote. Use remotecontrol disable none to enable the remote control buttons. The API command soundeffectsvolume test does not work properly. Initiate this test through the local user interface instead. The Polycom HDX system may respond slowly in high-speed H.320 calls when the serial port is configured for 9600 baud and control and has registered for callstate notifications. To address this issue, increase the serial port baud rate or register for callstatus notifications instead of callstate notifications. Calling Calls dialed using analog voice lines will not roll over to other call types if the call is busy or otherwise fails. Do not mix unrestricted (speeds that are a multiple of 64 kbps) and restricted (multiple of 56 kbps) participants in an internal multipoint conference. If your system is not registered to a gatekeeper, you cannot dial a call by entering an IP address in the number field and an extension in the extension field. To work around this issue, enter all the information in the number field in the following format: <ip address>##<extension>, for example, ##1234. Cameras Polycom HDX systems support 1280 x 720 VGA sources that provide SMPTE timing. It does not support 1280 x 720 VGA sources that use other timing. You may see a few seconds of blue video when the Polycom HDX camera wakes up. The camera may also take a few seconds to focus after waking up. PowerCam Plus cameras connected as camera 1 display a reddish hue when facing a green background. 11

Feature Content Limitation Some DVI video sources (such as certain laptops) do not correctly support the hot plug detect pin (HPD). This can result in the source sending video in the wrong format for Polycom HDX video in ports 4 and 5. Please consult your equipment manuals to find out the behavior of the HPD pin. When sending 1280 x 1024 content between Polycom HDX systems with Zoom People Video to Fit Screen disabled, content appears stretched on the receiving system. To address this issue, enable Zoom People Video to Fit Screen. Cisco PIX Global Management System ipower LifeSize PathNavigator PVX RADVISION ReadiManager SE200 RSS 2000 Cisco PIX does not support H.239 and AES Encryption. Disable AES on the gateway. Polycom Global Management System does not currently provide management of Polycom HDX devices. Polycom plans to address this in a future release of the product. Polycom HDX systems transmit and receive H.263 content rather than H.264 content in calls with ipower 9000 systems running HD calls to LifeSize systems connect at 4SIF. When registered to the PathNavigator, directory entries with Speed set to Auto will fail. Polycom HDX systems transmit and receive H.263 content (instead of H.264 content) in calls with PVX. In calls using a RADVISION viaip gateway, Polycom HDX 9004 H.323 systems report packet loss on the transmit side, even though there might not be any packet loss. Polycom SE200 does not currently provide management of Polycom HDX devices. Polycom plans to address this in a future release of the product. SE200 s gatekeeper functionality is not affected by this limitation. RSS 2000 supports a maximum call speed of 1024 kbps. To record a conference in HD using RSS 2000, make sure that the Polycom HDX is configured for sharpness. Polycom HDX systems display blocky, gray video for a few seconds after leaving the RSS 2000 menu. 12

Feature Sony PCS Limitation H.323 encrypted calls between a Polycom HDX system and Sony PCS-1 produce a constant audio screeching. To work around this issue, disable AES Encryption. Sony PCS-G50 systems do not receive content from Polycom HDX systems in H.320 calls if one side has encryption configured on and the other has encryption configured off. To address this issue, configure encryption the same on both systems. TANDBERG VCON ViewStation In a multipoint H.320 call with a TANDBERG MXP F5.0, a Polycom HDX system stops receiving people video when the Polycom HDX system sends content. VCON HD3000 systems may display poor video in calls with a Polycom HDX system. ViewStation EX/FX v6.0.5 does not support People+Content in calls with Polycom HDX systems. ViewStation EX/FX v addresses this issue. Polycom HDX systems do not receive graphics from ViewStation systems. In 4-way H.320 calls that include ViewStation as a far site, sending content from a Polycom HDX system may cause ViewStation to display frozen video. ISDN internal MCU calls from Polycom HDX systems to ViewStation FX systems that experience downspeeding may result in the ViewStation FX system not receiving video. To work around this issue, place calls at the final conference rate. VSX Systems VSX version will not activate PVEC (Polycom Video Error Concealment) in a call with a Polycom HDX system that experiences network errors. VSX version addresses this issue. Set the Polycom HDX system to Motion instead of Sharpness when calling VSX systems using H

Feature Localization Limitation Polycom HDX systems accept 21 double-byte characters for Localized System Name. Polycom recommends limiting a Localized System Name to 15 double-byte characters so that it is displayed properly in the user interface. A long text string entered in the Enter Marquee Text field is truncated to 21 double-byte characters with a backslash appended. Polycom recommends limiting these fields to 21 double-byte characters. If you enter more than 21 double-byte characters, the Home Screen Settings page of the web interface might become inaccessible. To work around this issue, remove the string on the Home Screen Settings screen of the local user interface. Long text strings entered in the Screen Saver Text or Logo Screen Text fields are truncated to 21 double-byte characters per line with a backslash appended. Polycom recommends limiting these fields to 21 double-byte characters. Polycom HDX systems accept 25 double-byte characters for Localized Name. Polycom recommends limiting a Localized Name to 16 double-byte characters so that it is displayed properly in the user interface. Polycom HDX systems accept 25 double-byte characters for Localized Meeting Name. Polycom recommends limiting a Localized Meeting Name to 16 double-byte characters so that it is displayed properly in the user interface. 14

Feature MGC Limitation Disable transcoding on Polycom HDX systems when connecting with an MGC Continuous Presence conference. You may experience video latency and lip sync issues when a Polycom HDX 9004 places multiple IP-to-ISDN calls through an MGC gateway. When calling into an Interactive Voice Response conference on MGC, enter the meeting password manually when prompted rather than including it in the dialing string. Polycom HDX systems in high-speed, video-switched conferences with Pro-Motion on MGC may experience video artifacts when sending content. MGC resolves this issue. Polycom HDX 9004 systems connect as audio only in Pro-Motion conferences on MGC-100 v MGC v8.0 addresses this issue. Configure Polycom HDX system content sources for motion when connecting with a video-switched sharpness conference on MGC v7.5. Enable H.239 on Polycom HDX systems when connecting into an MGC conference configured for H.239. Polycom HDX systems may experience video quality problems in encrypted H.320 Continuous Presences classic view conferences with H.329. If you are using conference on demand with a Polycom HDX system, configure this feature to use Continuous Presence or Transcoding instead of Video Switched. Monitors You may observe user interface distortion if you attempt to configure a monitor with a 4:3 aspect ratio for a resolution of 1280 x 720. You may observe distorted video in a multipoint call between PAL and NTSC systems if Zoom People Video to Fit Screen is enabled. Multipoint Network Profiles You may observe stretched video in an internal multipoint call on a systems that has Zoom People Video to Fit Screen disabled. To correct this, switch to the home screen and and then back to video screen. Starting a Polycom HDX system without a LAN connection and subsequently connecting the LAN may cause the LAN interface to fail to come up. If this occurs, restart the system with the LAN connected. Profiles do not save Monitor 2 settings. 15

Feature Security Limitation The Security page in both the local and web interface does not correctly report Telnet, SNMP and Web connections. When Security Mode is enabled on a Polycom HDX system, attempting to enable or disable Telnet access from the Security page causes the system to restart. Polycom HDX systems do not issue an SNMP alert for failed or successful attempts to log in via Telnet. SIP Software Update SIP conferences do not support a meeting password. Do not configure a meeting password if you are using SIP. Polycom HDX systems do not time out in software update mode if they are waiting for user response. When running a software update, you may see video artifacts on secondary monitors. The primary monitor will display the software update status screen. Use the local user interface or web interface to change monitor settings rather than the configuration screens provided with software update. Software Update provides no warning and locks up the system if you run it while the system is in a call. To work around this issue, make sure the system is not in a call when you run Software Update. When running Software Update, the web browser does not correctly display the update progress. To work around this issue, refresh the browser window. Do not restart the system. When updating a Polycom HDX system that is behind a Linksys router, the update stalls unless the computer you are using to run the update is configured as host on the network. User Interface In PAL-to-NTSC calls with Polycom HDX systems, call statistics may be incorrect. In multipoint H.320 calls, far sites may incorrectly display Polycom HDX systems as VSX systems on the Call Statistics screen. V.35 Polycom HDX 9004 systems allow IP calls when in a V.35 direct call. In direct-connect V.35 calls at speeds of 1472 kbps or greater, sending content using People+Content IP causes the call to disconnect. 16

Feature Web Interface Limitation The Location page in the web interface does not include the Area Code setting. If an incorrect logo file type is loaded via the web interface, the logo does not show up and no error message is displayed. Logs cannot be downloaded from the web interface while in a call. When multipoint directory entries are edited in the web interface, the Call Quality changes to Auto. You can manually change the entry back to the desired speed. Web Director and remote monitoring will not display video when connected to a system that has Monitor 2 set to a resolution of 1024x768 and Monitor 3 enabled. When using Internet Explorer version 7, enter both the user name (admin) and password when prompted. Do not leave the user name blank. Entering single quotes in the Enter Marquee Text field of the Home Screen Settings page causes the web page to stop displaying correctly. To work around this issue, remove the quotes using the system s embedded user interface. Hardware and Software Requirements To use the web interface, you need Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x. The following PTZ cameras are supported for use with Polycom HDX systems: Polycom Eagle Eye Polycom PowerCam Plus Polycom PowerCam Sony EVI-D30/31 Sony EVI-D70 / Vaddio WallVIEW 70 Sony EVI-D100 / Vaddio WallVIEW 100 Sony BRC-300 / Vaddio WallVIEW 300 Elmo PTC-100S/110R/150S/160R 17

VISCA daisy-chaining is not supported. Each camera must be attached to a separate camera/serial port on the Polycom HDX system. Polycom HDX systems are tested extensively with a wide range of products. The following list is not a complete inventory of compatible equipment; it simply indicates the products that have been tested for compatibility with this release. Video conferencing systems use a variety of algorithms to compress audio and video. In a call between two systems, each end transmits audio and video using algorithms supported by the other end. In some cases, a system may transmit a different algorithm than it receives. This process occurs because each system independently selects the optimum algorithms for a particular call, and different products may make different selections. This process should not affect the quality of the call.
